Travelling from Germany to the Eurotunnel we were lucky to book and stay at De Kopernunne for a night in December 2018.  The hotel is approx 5 minutes off the main motorway E40 running from Calais to Brugge and approx 55 minutes to the Eurotunnel.

Situated in a very small village the hotel appeared to be shut on arrival but after ringing the bell we were given a very warm welcome with the downstairs restaurant opening at about 1800hrs.  The room was situated in the attic of the building (quite narrow stairs and no lift if required) and was great for our needs being very clean and well equipped plus they accepted our dog.

Room itself was really spacious, warm and welcoming being equipped with a large double bed, a sofa which could be converted to a bed plus an armchair. Really smart and again very clean bathroom (with shower) was great.  Having walked the dog we stopped in the restaurant for a Belgium beer and ended up staying and dining there as the hosts were so welcoming and friendly.  Being a seafood restaurant we had the 3 course special which was very, very tasty and good value for money.  We had a cracking meal in very nice surroundings with the fire adding extra ambience.  As we had to leave early the next morning we left before breakfast was served which was a shame.

Overall an excellent overnight stay and would make an ideal location for visiting the battlefields or beaches in the area plus a bonus if you like decent home cooked seafood.  Many thanks to the owners and we hope to see you both again

Great Overnight Stay & Seafood

Wanted to come here for a long time because the menu looked promising but because of the fact that they don't mention any prices on their website we postponed our visit thinking this was a very expensive restaurant. Now we accidentally passed by after a visit near the coast and were hungry so we stopped thinking we would only eat a main course. We were happy to see that the prices of the dishes in this restaurant are normal and not expensive. Therefore we had a full menu and were very satisfied. Superb food, friendly lady, nice place. Will come back many times now. Pity we postponed our visit here for so long. If we had known the prices are normal we would have come a lot sooner. If You love fish You'll love it here.

Excellent fish restaurant

Travelling east from Calais on E40, just before joining Ostend - Ghent (Brussels) motorway. Lots of traffic around Ghent and Antwerp of course. Decided to have dinner but  not at some mundane motorway restaurant. Came across this little gem. Not far from E40, about 2mins. Beautiful building, stylish inside and recently restored. Greeted by a fireplace with a fire. Very helpful and inviting waitress. I had battered fish and wife had seafood mix. Children also battered fish. All very nice. Not fancy but just right. Interior theme is fishing industry from area, so lots of pictures of ships, fishermen, original fishing maps, etc. Oh and beer wall plaques. It is Belgium after all!

Great food and hospitality 

We came here for a drink during a cycle trip, but ended up having some delicious desserts. The apple cake was one of the best I have ever had. And the pancakes (3!) my daughter had were really good as well. The terrace in the garden is cosy.
