Perfectly located and everything in the house is of the highest standard. The historic articles, art and books in the property are unique. Ben was a wonderful host, very knowledgeable of the history of the area and very attentive. So much to see and take in within the town or short drives away. We would definitely come again.

A perfect base for a memorable trip

Menin Gate House provided the perfect base of operations for our party of 4 people (2 Couples) to use while we explored the WW1 history of Flanders. 

Benoit (the owner) greeted us upon arrival and gave us the tour and history of the house. He then took time out of his day to suggest locations that we could visit in our time frame and marked them all on a map, this was a fantastic help.

The living room and dining area house some fantastic and interesting artifacts, which add to the charm and character of the house.

The house location is perfect to reach the shops, bars, restaurants and markets that Ypres has to offer.

We are now planning our 2nd adventure.

Weekend Visit

Benoit, the owner, and chairman of the Last Post Association, is a fantastic host. There are various options with the house. We stayed in the larger house and had the whole house, sleeping up to 8 (3 doubles and a twin). It is nicely decorated and there is a small terrace out the back. The Menin Gate is just over the road. The coach parties drop off and park opposite but it wasn't too disturbing. Easy parking on the road and there are bars, shops and restaurants in walking distance. Overall, this is a fantastic place to stay.

Stayed in the Churchill duplex as a family of 4 in this wonderful house with amazing views of the Menin gate and a great location to wander around Ieper. House was full of history and memoriabilia, as explained by our host Benoit who as chair of the last post association was a mine of information and hints. An excellent host and a unique stay.
Good sized, cool rooms which during a heatwave were welcome as was the private courtyard to relax. Both bedrooms have ensuites also a toilet on the 1st floor. Kitchen generally well equipped. Note there is shared access , via the internal stairs, with the top floor apartment which wasnt an issue for us but maybe for some. 

Unique house and location

We stayed in the two bedroom apartment for a long weekend and it was very warm and comfortable, even though it was winter. It was well equipped with a large kitchen including everything necessary including tea and coffee. The living and dining room are full of interesting war artefacts and books. Our host Benoit is the chairman of the Last Post Association and gave us loads of information and tips for the town and local area. We visited the Tyne Cot Cemetery, about 10 minutes away The Hooge Crater museum, even closer, and Bruges Christmas market, about 40 minutes away. The whole experience was wonderful. Many thanks to our host.

Ideal for Ypres and surrounding area

This is a unique and wonderful place to stay with a fantastic host. Benoit made us feel very welcome and offered us great advice for our stay. The collection of memorabilia and antiques in the property adds character and was very interesting to see. The property was cosy, spotlessly clean, warm and very comfortable. The beds were extremely comfortable and we all slept really well. The location of this property is also brilliant with the Menin gate being metres away. We will definitely be coming back and staying here! A long weekend that we will never forget.

Wonderful place to stay for a truly memorable break

We, a family of five, had a wonderful stay in this wonderful house. Clean, spacial, and very central. Our host accomdated us with a parkingcard wich made everything much easier. We had the car parked right outside of the house. 

Great house for a longer stay in Ieper

Title says it all spent 3 nights at House 2 as we visited WW1 sites. Benoit our host was fantastic and made several great recommendations. Could not be closer to the Last Post ceremonies. Highly recommend.

Great location, remarkable decor and tremendous host what more could one want

We stayed in Gate House 2 and found the property clean, well equipped and in a great location.

We didn't get to meet Benoit the owner, as he was away when we visited. However he kindly arranged for us to meet with his uncle at the Last Post ceremony on our day of arrival. The was a very moving experience.

The only thing lacking in the property is a second bathroom, as it's a 3 bedroom apartment.

We chose to visit Ypres by train, and the property was a 15 minute walk from the station. We walked to Hill 60 & back one day, about 4 miles each way. We also caught a bus to Tyne Cot Cemetery, for €3 return.

If you're looking to visit Ypres and the surrounding area, can highly recommend staying here.

Great location for a battlefields visit

We stayed two nights in Plumer's Apartment, which occupies the upper floors of the building. The apartment is immaculately presented and fully equipped. The view of the Menin Gate (our primary reason for visiting Ypres) could not be better. The only negative - and presumably it cannot be avoided in a house of this type - is having to get our luggage up several sets of narrow steep stairs to the apartment, and then having to negotiate a slippery gloss-painted staircase to the upper level bedroom with a low ceiling to add to the challenge. Negotiating this, especially in the middle of the night, could prove excessively difficult for some guests. If mobility isn't an issue then I doubt if you can find better than this.
