Dominique and Rebecca are wonderful. The place is absolutely beautiful. Perfect for relaxing and a good starting point for exploring the surroundings, e.g. San Ignacio, Xunantunich, Caracol, ATM Cave etc. We had a unforgettable time at Nabitunich!

Great hosts, beautiful place to be

We enjoyed our stay at this B&B located on mile 76 Western Highway near the Guatemala border. Dominic, the host was gracious and warm. If you stay, the bfasts and dinners are delicious and a great way to save time on hunting for food in town. We were lucky to meet friendly and fun guests also staying at the farm.

Review Hotel Nabitunich

After leaving the nearby Black Rock Lodge, we ate lunch in San Jose Succotz, visited the Xunantunich archaeological site, and then made our short way to Nabitunich, "The Stone Cottage". Later, during our pre-arranged dinner, we were greeted by the farm's unnamed cats, and by Dominick, the owner. During dinner, he sat and chatted with us about the farm, the B&B, local history, and us.  Dominick was amazingly well informed about the American political situation, asked penetrating questions, and was a gentle, very wise soul. Only half jokingly, I suggested that Dominick be appointed the next Secretary-General of the United Nations.

Our two rooms were in a single small structure near the dining room and veranda. The garden area outside the rooms was filled with beautiful flowers, trees, and other plants. The rooms had functioning air conditioners, interesting lighting, a comfortable bed, a coffee pot. Our particular building looked like it had been a livestock structure long ago, but was quite nice.

Birds were abundant in the trees and farm fields around the B&B. My brother in law walked down to the Mopan River, with the Xunantunich site visible on the other side.

At night, we watched in fascination as a stream of leaf-cutter ants carried their harvest down and across the walkway.

The next morning, we went back to the dining room for the complimentary breakfast, and after Dominick chatted with other guests from Guatemala and Mexico (speaking Spanish), he came back to talk to us. Pulling up a chair, he asked us about our work (all retired now), and listened carefully while my wife talked about her work in biotech. Again, he asked well-considered, penetrating questions about her work.

The internet was down across Belize when we left. We had intended to pay with credit card or PayPal, but without internet, neither worked. "No problem - we'll catch you later" was his response. Fortunately, we were able to take care of it a few days later, once again with a very pleasant exchange, this time with his wife.

Wonderful B&B near the Xunantunich Archaeological Site with a Delightful Host

Situated on a farm, this 250 acre property is close to the main town of San Ignacio and even closer to the ancient ruins of Xunantunich (you can see it from the farm with a clear sky!).  Surrounded by flowers, lush vegetation, and a beautiful river just a short walk on the property, Nabitunich is about as peaceful as it can get. It is also a great base to use if you are interested in heading to Tikal in Guatemala, or, the rest of Cayo. 

We were greeted by the owner Domenic, shortly after our arrival, and served a nice dinner on our first night as well.  Domenic is so down to Earth, knowledgeable and friendly.  If you need help planning anything during your stay, he has many contacts and knows the areas extremely well! I met a lot of people during my 12 days in Belize, but, he remains my favorite.  I enjoyed chatting with him in the dining hall during dinner on a nightly basis.  Marta, Maura, and the rest of the staff were always in good spirits and willing to help in any way that they could. 

The included free breakfasts were massive and such a great way to start our days exploring the San Ignacio region and Cayo District. 

You will run into dogs and cats on the property so if this bothers you, just be aware.  I love animals so it just added a little extra pleasure to our stay.  Magnolia, one of the dogs, will likely follow you around to help guide when walking around the property on your way to the river.  Such a good pup! 

Room #3 will forever be my friend Ana's favorite room, Domenic! LOL ;-)  

Thanks to everyone at Nabitunich for making our stay so memorable.  I will definitely recommend this place to anyone staying in the area and if I ever make it back to your beautiful country, I will definitely be returning here!

This place is the perfect spot to start your adventure in Belize!

My favorite part was in the night sitting on the benches on the mound above the buried Mayan house looking over the entire valley including Xuantunich and into Guatemala.  There are no lights anywhere, not even planes in the sky.  The only noises are the animals and the river.  You just don't get that level of peace and quiet in the US.  It is like time stopped in that tiny slice of the world.

Such a great place to stay! Fabulous hosts, a beautiful location, and comfortable accommodations. Breakfast was incredible and included with our stay. You really can't beat this place! We got to see toucans, monkeys, and parrots while walking around and you can also see the top of the closest ruins in the distance.

We stayed at this working farm/lodge for 5 nights and they were quite memorable.  (hands down our favorite part of our Belize adventure)Great views, very relaxing, wonderful people.... Dominic the owner is quite a character and enjoys chatting with all of his guests.  He is also a great source of information on all things Belize.  The accommodations are more than adequate but not fancy, but the experience is awesome.  Yes you can spend 250$ or more per night at the numerous "jungle lodges" in the area but they wont match the authenticity of Nabitunich.  Thank You

Unique Experience

Upon turning off of the main road (Western Highway), we knew we were in for a treat. The rolling grass and tree-covered hills, cattle, goats, and horses.  A bumpy laneway that ended at a small gathering of guest houses.  The land has been in the family since 1916. Each room is simply decorated and with extremely comfortable beds.  We were greeted by Domenic, he and his wife own the property, and shown around. Situated amongst wonderful gardens and foliage, there is a central open-air lounge area with a fridge and freezer selling cold beverages and frozen treats on an honour system.  Included breakfast (delicious) is also served here.  Had we stayed more than one night, and we truly wished we had, Domenic can whip-up a delicious dinner on request as well. 
This is not luxury.  The lodging had a wonderful feel - reminded my wife and me of the Kenyan Highlands, or Tanzania.
On top of the mountain across the valley, you can see el Castillo at Xunantunich.  As the sun was setting, the Howler Monkeys belted out their almost prehistoric sounding chorus. Very special.
All in all, this was our favourite place in Belize.

Extraordinary!

I know that a lot of people will not like this type of accommodation as it is not one of those fancy upscale places. However, here you will find the bestest hosts while staying among nature- a great experience. My group definitely enjoyed here. My friend recommended Nabitunich as she was getting married at this location and we benefitted even more as her wedding guests.

Coming from Trinidad and Tobago 🇹🇹, I didn't prepare for the cold though. All 3 of us felt like we had on the ac on full blast at nights and on mornings when not even the ceiling fan was on. Waking up on mornings in the midst of fog (guessing from the coldness and the constant days of rain) was also quite the experience, I was excited to be in the midst of it. Hahaha.

Dominic took care of us from night # 1 until we left. He made sure we got our breakfast and dinner every single day, at very very affordable cost I might say. When we went out and expected to be back late, he made sure to accommodate us no matter the time. He even asked what time we will be back just so we won't have cold food waiting. We got variety: bean dishes which are unique to Belize plus your regular cereal, cheeses, etc. I looked forward to the meals, so much so, I would regularly wonder what we'll be getting for breakfast or dinner. 

We received quick help if we wanted anything or if anything stopped working. We even got laundry done. We received loads of advice on what to do from Dominic and he was also great company at our table. I felt sorry for him when my aunt was pestering him constantly but he was forever helpful and never looked frustrated. Learnt a lot about Belize from him. Told him to prepare for our bandwagon the next time we're in Belize 😊
