Despite everyone telling us how dangerous El Alto was, we chose to stay here just one night solely because of its proximity to the airport for an early morning flight the next day, rather than have to get down into the mess of La Paz. It was actually a wonderful experience! The staff was helpful and friendly, and the hotel was quiet (much quieter than the hotel we stayed at in La Paz a few days earlier!). Our room was clean, lots of windows, had a balcony, and the bed was so comfortable. Definitely would recommend this hotel for a option close-by the airport!

No Complaints!

We stayed two nights in the hostel. We arrived late by plane and had an early flight the second day. We chose the hostel because of its proximity to the airport. (We still had to pay 40 Bolivianos from the Airport to the hostel by taxi. To la Paz it would have been only 30 Bolivianos more... next time I would take a hotel in the city)

Well, originally the hostel offered to pick us up from the airport, but at the time of our arrival we got an email "sorry, pickup doesn't work" which we didn't get at that time because the Wifi in the airport wasn't working. So we waited a while and then decided to take a cab...
The señor at the reception seemed to be sorry about that and offered to take us to the airport (for free) for our flight home (at 4.30 am). 
He even offered to bring us breakfast at 4 am. The night before we confirmed the times again and he said "not to worry". Well, the breakfast came at 4.30 and he was shrugging like "that's Bolivia". Sorry but at the day of my return flight to Europe, I am NOT that relaxed. 

The room was ok: A little bit dirty but it had an heater and the shower was warm.

Only advantage is the proximity to the airport

The owner is nice and speaks perfect English. Could borrow a hairdryer from the frontdesk. Provided complimentary bottled water and snacks at arrival. The owner woke me up for my early flight. It is located near the airport, therefore is a good place to rest at if you have a early flight or if you are at La Paz for a transit. They can arrange a taxi to the airport, which costs 30 Bs.

We had a night stopover in La Paz and we thought we should stay at El Alto (closer to the airport) rather than spending the night at city center.

Room was cold and dirty. Bed sheets didn't seem to have been changed since the last client visit. When we asked we were offered another room, but no apologies.

Breakfast was an instant coffe with a few toasts.

Staff was helpful as he helped contacting our airplane company. He also booked a taxi for us.

For the same price range you can have a much better accomodation in the city centre (I recommend Rendez Vous).


Below average

We needed to be close to the airport LPB and wanted to experience El Alto. 
For the little we paid and the few alternative options in the area, we stuck with this hostal. 

We got a private room and staff were excellent. We left our stuff and headed off 
to explore the market streets. A lot of fun. We returned after the sun had almost set. 

My wife went to turn on the light on arrival and let out a scream. She had just touched what is supposed to be the main light switch but was actually touching the mains electricity directly because there was no switch. The floor was horrendously filthy.  Beds look like they hadn't been changed in awhile. We put our own sheet on top to avoid getting into the bed. The private bathroom had a used toilet, unflushed with faeces.  Bathroom tissue would have been put to better use to sandpaper the walls. Why didn't we leave? We were so tired and had to fly out very early, and the staff so wanted us to be welcome; and honestly for the low price what should we expect? This was a case of getting what we paid for and something way too common in Bolivia... Friendly service but shoddy quality.  Next time we will pay 10 bucks more and stay in La Paz itself in order to have a cleaner option.
