Fantastic place in the middle of nature. Very clean rooms and environment.
The staff was extraordinarily friendly and helpful. The food was also very good and the amount was always more than you could eat...
Highly recommendable for both individuals, couples and families !  

Great stay at Santa Esmeralda

This hotel is a gem. Absolutely gorgeous property. The river is beautiful and kayaking in the serene clear waters is a must. The food is absolutely the best, and the staff... Each one of them made our stay so special. I truly felt I was in nature, which is why I wanted to go to Bonito, while I had all amenities. To respond to another reviewer, who clearly was looking for a Disneyland like experience, rooms are super spacious and well maintained. There are plenty of windows, although no glass panels. To someone expecting to be completely separated from nature, yes, it's a bit different. But air conditioning is available and works perfectly fine, TV, wifi, hot showers with great water pressure. And so many animals! Beauty and tranquility in perfect harmony.

Piece of heaven

You need to up date the actually pictures of this hotel!! Very bad!!
The cabins are like a shoe box!! NO WINDOWS! You can open the wood panel to open to see out and the heat comes in, otherwise you close the whole thing in. AC does not work well. So you are inclose in an oven!! Phone does not work properly, which is the only communication you have with the front desk. So there is no phone in the cabins! So if you phone doesn’t work you have to drive to the front desk ( if you happen to stay in a more far way cabins) or you have to walk!. 
Things are following apart. 
I found out later that was an ant crawling inside the whole cabins two weeks ago and they were bitting everyone in the room. And they say they could not do anything about it. You are in NATURE! Good answer! 
Worst experience every! I left at the same day to another hotel ZAGAIA! WONDERFUL!

Amazing hotel with wonderful staff and the river only for us was something especial.
The breakfast is more like a lunch and pleasant service. I will recommend to all my friends back in Europe. The price is a bit high but covered our expectation.

A paradise in the Center West of Brazil

Tranquility remote and genuinely idyllic, the lodge offered a wonderful repose amidst a busy tour of Brazil. Staff could not do enough for us and the food was better than anything we had in Rio or Foz de Iguacu. In a nation that is the largest coffee producer in the world, coffee is less than poor and often not available - not so in this lodge!!! Their coffee is strong and rich and available almost 24 hours a day. Loved our stay there!

True country hospitality and genuinely helpful staff

We enjoyed our stay at Hotel Esmeralda in January/18. 
It's in a rural area very close to the airport (about 5 Km) and 17 Km away from downtown Bonito. The dirt road to the hotel is in bad shape in a few areas, and driving at night can be an adventure. 
But if you're lucky, you get to see toucans, seriemas and maybe even macaws on the way. 
If you're looking for a quiet getaway in the nature, this is a great choice.
The staff was very courteous and kind.
The food was simple, yet delicious. The lime meringue pie was the best of our lives.
The bed and pillows were comfy and the shower had good water pressure (you just have to follow the trick on the room's instructions to get the water to heat). AC and TV in the room.
Our bungalow had a queen bed, a single bed and a mezzanine with a double bed. I'm sure it could accommodate 5 people.
When trying to book on Booking.com and other such sites, it was listed as being a 3 person max room and required us to book 2 rooms.
But upon calling the hotel, they allowed our family of 4 to stay in one room, and there was plenty of space.  
The main house (where the restaurant is) is beautiful and charming. 
There is a very welcoming fireplace for those who are brave enough to come during winter.  
The swimming pool are is great, with hammocks/lounge areas.
The Formoso river goes through the property and you can swim and see the piraputangas there (though the water is not as clear as in the other rivers where the flotation happens). 
You can also kayak (which we didn't try) and walk in trails beside the river.  We saw monkeys.
The only thing I'd change is that we'd like to have water, soda and other refreshments in the minibar. There were 2 bottles of water in it when we arrived, and they were not replaced. You have to request. But not an issue.
For certain activities like the Gruta do Lago Azul and the waterfalls you'll have to leave an hour before your designated entry time.  
I recommend the Hotel Esmeralda and would stay again.

Pleasant stay by the nature

The Hotel Santa Esmeralda in one word: exceptional.

We were looking for a peaceful and confortable hotel to stay over a week. We also wanted the hotel to be the closest possible to the wild nature of the Bonito region. The Hotel Santa Esmeralda offers that and much more.

The hotel is beautifully designed and built with noble materials, and yet simple and practical. No wonder as the owners are an architect and an engineer. In the main house you are welcomed to two immense rooms, where dining, meeting people and relaxing take place.

Next to the main house you have a very nice swimming pool with its wooden elevated deck. There are four pavilions around the pool and three in the garden with tables, benchs or hammocks, all of them perfect for reading or  relaxing. We adopted one of the garden pavilions to have our breakfasts. The garden is very well looked after, with indigenous trees and flowers, and home to three siriemas, a handful of mico-leão monkeys and, if you are lucky, the red arara called "Mel". All these permanent "wild guests" will be more than happy, as will your thrilled kids, to share bits of your delicious breakfast (but rules apply). 

Then there is the river. Walk a few steps from the main house, and through the (Eden?) gate, and you are presented to the beautiful Formoso river (curiosity: the crystal clear Sucurí River is a tributary of the Formoso). The riverbank belongs to the hotel, so this bit of the river feels like it's all yours: you can swim, snorkel, feed the fish, go kayaking or simply enjoy the nature. There is even a small, sandy beach area with tables and seats. Go for a nice walk up or down riverbank to admire its waterfall (the stronger swimmers will enjoy trying to get under it for a natural water massage).

Breakfast and dinner are a real feast. The choice is great and the food is delicious. And next to the sophisticated meat and fish recipes and home-made cakes and puddings, their all-you-can-eat buffet also offers soups, salads, plain rice or pasta and fruit.

the staff is super friendly, competent and happy to make you feel at home.

About budget. The hotel is obviously not cheap but your overall budget can easily double if you sign up to all the attractions offered by the local tourist agents. Here is the trick: do "only" half of the attractions and spend more quality time, and less money, staying in the hotel. After all, the Hotel Santa Esmeralda is a piece of paradise in Bonito.

Exceptional

Beautiful resort with amazing staff. The breakfast, snack, and dinner were great. Staff was kind, attentive, and helpful. The resort has a nice pool with lounge chairs and hammocks, a swimming area near the river that has fish and a deck with ladder to get in, and an area to kayak and walk by the river. It's removed from the city of Bonito but is a beautiful resort and it's still possible to get to the nature tours from this hotel. 

Beautiful resort and great staff

We had the best chalet of the hotel, number 17. It's gorgeous and cosy and a short walk to the main building, the river and the pool. Staff are excellent, the grounds well maintained. The proximity to the river is a plus as you can dip into it's cool pools next top a small waterfall or swim or kayak where it is wider. Much enjoyed our two nights and would have stayed longer willingly.
