We had a wonderful time at Dolphin Lodge.  The staff were professional, friendly and knowledgeable; the excursions were amazing.  Our highlights were the camping trip (complete with Dodo's candlelit banquet and cocktails), swimming in the river, and bird-watching.  Everything was perfectly timed and planned to allow rest and recovery from tiring but exhilarating trips.  Thoroughly recommended!

Amazing experiences in the Amazon jungle

We booked the cigana package and had a great time. The rooms are rustic, wooden and very open to any insect that wishes to come inside. We had multiple frogs, many spiders and other funny amazon insects in our cabin. The beds come with a moscito net. Basic showers and bathrooms with warm water in the "superior bungalows".
Very friendly staff and nice location.

We had a great time and saw sloths, macaws, pink and gray dolphins, caiman, tarantula and many other birds. Great boat trips and good transfer to and from Manaus.

If you want to experience the Amazon for a few days, look no further. 
Dolphin Lodge is a fantastic place, which offers genuine Amazon experiences.
Yes, it comes with a fairly high price tag, but I found it cheaper than many other places offering a similar experience.
Transfer from Manaus takes three hours by car, boat across Rio Negro (including a short stop at the Meeting of the Waters), car along the Trans-Amazonian highway, and then finally a last boat ride, partly through flooded forest.
Our bungalow was spacious and clean and the room was fixed every day. The shower worked well and we had AC and mosquito nets.
The food was excellent with Amazonian fish along with chicken and excellent side dishes. For breakfast there were juices from fruit I didn't know existed. 
Drinks, apart from water, were not included in the price for the room, but were available at very affordable prices (really no need to stock up on drinks to save lots of money). 
There was a pool (with nets to protect from caymans and piranhas, that probably aren't dangerous anyway), which was a nice feature after morning excursions and after lunch.
We stayed for two nights and had three days of activities. We could have stayed another night or two, but we felt that these three days were sufficient.
Our activities included piranha fishing, cruising the flooded forest, visiting a local house and their fruit plantation, night ride to spot caymans, morning ride to watch the sunrise, and a three-hour jungle hike.
Our guide spoke good English and spotted animals in an extraordinary way, as if he had put them there himself. 
Our sightings included cayman (duh...), three-toed sloth, pink freshwater dolphin, grey freshwater dolphin, squirrel monkey, howler monkey, capuchin monkey.

The staff is extremely helpful and acommodating and seem very committed to the guests having a great experience. And they do succeed. 

In all, this is a great experience. I would recommend Dolphin Lodge to anyone who want to experience the Amazon for a few days.

A fantastic way to experience the Amazon for a few days.

My daughter & I actually visited the dolphin lodge in July 2016.  I wrote a review but I guess forgot to post. 

It was an amazing experience! Our gentle & deeply knowledgeable guide, Mo and his wife own the lodge they built with their own hands and the land it occupies.  They are original people of the Amazon. 

The spotless rooms were just rustic enough for these people from NYC. The door locked, the screened window had a door that opened onto a view into the forest (jungle). We were told to be sure both doors were locked at night - animals are curious.  The beds had clean fresh white linens and an excellent mosquito net over it. The bathroom was small but clean and not rustic. Meals, cocktails (we had caiperinhas) & tours were all at & from the big dining room. The food was served buffet style. There was always plenty of everything.  The large, fresh various river fishes were moist, flavorful and wonderful. There were ample and varied salads & starches and at least 1 dessert every evening.  Breakfasts and lunches were fresh, lovely and also presented as buffets. There was always something to eat available. These people were so welcoming and knowledgeable and kind and humble. 

Mo picked us up in Manaus in a long motor boat and the adventure - with other visitors from around the world - began. It was fun and exciting.  He took us out every day to either explore the rainforest both on foot and in his large rowboat. His understanding and knowledge of the rainforest is deep and ancestral.  He shares it happily and humbly.  We fished and caught piranhas, night hunted for caimen, saw many sloths (& heard many sleepily fall from trees into the river - to Mo's amusement). He knew all the sounds of the forest and identified them all for us.  We all heard a huge tree fall and Mo excitedly packed us into his row boat and brought us to see it. He knew just where to go by the sound. Amazing. It was huge and when we expressed sadness about its' demise, he explained how & why it happens as part of the life of the first, how it helps the forest remain the amazingly bountiful place it is. 

Mo walked us into the forest (never go in without a guide, you will get lost). 
He showed us iron wood trees and explained why they are not used for fishing for eels (the conduct electric); to never lean on trees because the ants bite - hard; to rub hands up & down on tree trunks to collect "ant juice" to rub on ourselves if a panther is about (hides human scent); where enormous tarantulas live and how shy they are. So much more...
He keeps a work area in a clearing in the forest. There he showed us how he uses the giant palm leaves to build the roofs over all the buildings in his lodge! The roofs are so picture perfect & he makes them all himself! He opened fresh Brazil nuts for us with a machete. So much work for each creamy, buttery nut!  I understand why the dry, mealy Brazil nuts we find at home are so expensive! 
So much more - but if you are looking for a culturally authentic, safe, peaceful, interesting Amazon adventure with people who accept visitors gently and openly, The Dolphin Lodge is the place. 
After we left, we realized I had left a special scarf behind.  I asked if I could just give him money for postage. Mo took the hours out of his day to bring it me in Manaus. As honest & kind as the day is long.  
I know this is a very late post. I thought it posted in 2016. I have never forgotten and will never forget my experiences in The Dolphin Lodge. ♥️

Dolphin Lodge & Mo are the Best ♥️

We can’t say enough about the Dolphin Lodge. Our trip to the Amazon was one of the best experiences we’ve ever had. The Dolphin Lodge made everything so easy. They met us at the airport and took things from there. The food was very good. The location was beautiful and our tour guide that was assigned to us, Tiago, became like family. He was so much fun to be with and we loved playing games with him. He has excellent English and was very easy to talk to. It was fun learning about the Amazon from him. Everything he showed us was awesome. He caught a cayman for us to look at, saved us from a snake, pointed out sloths and monkeys and bullet ants and tarantulas and dolphins and he taught us how to catch piranha. We always felt safe with him. It was so fun to see so much wildlife. The chalets at the Dolphin Lodge were comfortable and had air conditioning. We loved relaxing on the hammocks, swimming in the riverside pool, exploring in the boat and hiking in the jungle. We highly recommend the Dolphin Lodge and Tiago.

Awesome Amazon experience!

If you are coming to the amazon, stay at the dolphin lodge. Not only is it an authentic experience (for instance with the roof structures being made out of palm leaves instead of aluminum), but the staff are AMAZING. And the food, literally like eating at a michelin starred restaurant. Not only is it authentic/traditional,  
but it is well seasoned and all around delicious. Lunch and dinner also come with dessert. The rooms were clean and had turndown service.  The bartender is amazing and so kind. This experience is a must see and have! Guides are so knowledgeable and spoke English and Portuguese.  The communal setting is awesome in the dining hall to allow you to meet others who are at the lodge. 

Wifi is strong in the dining hall so you don't have to worry about being totally disconnected from the world but it is nice to not have it everywhere so you can unplug and read, relax and enjoy the Amazon. 

If you are coming, a couple of things:

Bring a portable fan for tours if you run hot like I do

It can rain quickly so make sure you have an extra outfit in case you get rained on (rain jackets help, but you will still get wet) and also an extra bag if your clothes don't dry in time for your departure 

Bring a good book or games (the lodge has some too), but it is nice to have something for the downtime in between meal times and tours 

Mosquito repellant is a must and for our jungle tour, we pretreated our clothes which I would recommend.

Otherwise, come ready to have an adventure, eat well, laugh and enjoy the company of the staff and other travelers. Literally will be back (probably will try near November to see the dry season).

Once in a lifetime experience!

My family of 4 spent the New Year weekend at Dolphin Lodge and it did not disappoint!! The hospitality started from the time our driver picked us up from our hotel in town in the morning. We had gotten in on a late flight earlier that same morning and had a pleasant ride to the boat docks. We then transferred to the lodge via 2 boats and a kombi (hippie van) with scenic views along the way. On arrival at the lodge we were met my the most gracious staff. Everyone was so helpful, kind and professional! Lunch soon followed and really set the tone for a wonderful and tasty food selection throughout the next 3 days! The rooms were comfortable and clean. The organized trips which were 2 per day, were well thought out, educational, entertaining and most of all super fun! My kids’ favorite activity was hands down piranha fishing! Our guides Chiago and Leo were AMAZING!! We felt safe at all times and loved their enthusiasm for their work. And finally, I would be remiss to not mention how the staff decorated my daughter’s room with a beautiful pink balloon arch for her birthday!! This was a wonderful surprise for her! A tasty birthday cake was also presented at dinner that same night!! Overall we had a wonderful time and would definitely recommend booking a stay!

Wonderful unique experience!

The lodge is in the middle of nowhere and surrounded by rainforest. We stayed 4 nights and our adventure started on the trip out, with two bridges swept away we had to cross both rivers on platforms roped to tugs – gulp!  However, the handovers all went seamlessly. 

On arrival we were greeted with ice-cold Caipirinhas, a perfect welcome. The friendly staff are local villagers, everyone was very polite and meals are delicious. Cabins are cleaned/tidied daily but you're in a rainforest so do expect "uninvited guests" - all part of the fun! 

Our guides were Ismael (who spoke excellent English) and Gabrial, both had an in-depth knowledge of the jungle and its people. Saw too many creatures to list here, just stay clear of electric eels and watch-out for skydiving iguanas! Also, see if you can spot the large, pink-toe tarantula that shares the hammock hut! We ate live firefly grubs (surprisingly tasty), caught piranha, tried spear fishing (guides 3 fish, guest 0) and swam in the open river.

Advice: Keep body covered on treks (bullet ants, etc) but leech socks not necessary. Bar closes 9pm so bring a bottle if you like a night-cap. Pack earplugs, at night the forest rings with the sounds of the jungle… I soooo miss it!

An amazing stay with memories that will last a lifetime thanks to Ismael, Gabrial, Mo and all at Dolphin Lodge. This was our 4th rainforest and easily the best, can't recommend it enough!

Fantastic experience in an idyllic setting, 5 stars all round!

Can’t say enough good things about this place. Amazing experience all around. We were so well taken care of, from transportation to accommodations to meals. Everyone on the staff was very kind and helpful, especially one of our drivers, Eduardo. Top-notch communication, so we never worried about a thing. The food was delicious, with variety every day so you get a chance to always try something new. And of course, the guided excursions were unbeatable. So much fun and so much to see, our guide Ismael was incredible. Lots of knowledge and a great local perspective to share, also fluent in English. He had the eyes of an eagle and pointed out amazing wildlife constantly. The schedule overall is also very well-balanced and well-timed. It’s active yet also has just the right amount of downtime. Tip: make sure to pack your binoculars, bug spray, and sunscreen - they’re not kidding about those.

Vacation of a lifetime

Superb experience at Dolphin Lodge. Knowledgeable guides; beautiful environment; imaginative variety of trips on the river and in the jungle. Food is great: the best breakfasts I had anywhere in Brazil. Lovely little cabins within an idyllic riverside location.

What makes Dolphin Lodge outstanding is its complete flexibility to suit the plans of guests. Even though the lodge is nearly 3 hours from Manaus, via different forms of transport, transfers are organised (and reorganised if necessary) to fit past and future plans. Staff are relaxed and helpful. They make you feel part of the family without taking away your space or independence. It’s a great balance.

When you consider everything that is included (all transfers to Manaus and 3 good meals a day) this is fabulous value for money. It’s also nice to find a resort where they sell beer and other drinks at very fair prices, not using them to boost their profits given their isolated location. Overall, Dolphin Lodge fully justifies its status at the very top of the pile for this kind of experience.
