When I arrived my room was like a sauna but it eventually cooled down after the air-con was running for a while.  I detached the key from the keychain so I could leave the tag in to keep the electricity on whilst I was out so the room didn’t get hot again!

The room was small, not very clean and had a duvet with no sheets in spite of the high temperatures and only one small thin towel was provided.  

I had a room to myself, had I been sharing we would have been able to see each other on the toilet and shower due to the only slightly frosted doors.

The wiring for the shower looked dangerous and was hanging off the wall - I left the showerhead on the wall as I didn’t want to touch it as I was worried about being electrocuted!

The three bins around the pool were overflowing the whole time I was there and the beer cans and coffee cups left by guests on our first night where still on the teables by the pool the following afternoon.  The rooms were ‘cleaned’ after 3.00pm.

The owner was away and two young lads were meant to be running the places whilst he was away but our tour guide had to organise everything for them!

It was a real disappointment coming here after the luxury of Cristalino and I would rather have flown straight home from Cuiaba.

This place could be nice if it was managed better.

Badly managed, dirty but has potential to be a nice place to stay

What can I say??? Puzzled is the word I guess. This is the first disappointment I have (ever) had with a Tripadvisor chosen hotel. Chapada dos Guimaraes is a little town in the middle of the jungle as you well would know. The first thing you have to know, if you do choose this place, is that the reason I wrote the full address (Rua Vertical, 4 Chapada dos Guimaraes (Mato Grosso), 78195-000. Brasil) is that in Google maps or Waze, if you type in the name of the hotel, it would send you to a street in the town of Cuiaba that holds the same name of the town, 30 miles away!!! And believe me, it’s an hour drive, which means a couple of precious hours back and forth. That being said and in our case, after finally finding the small road that leads to this place, we were surprised by the beauty of the hotel. This lovely built Pousada is very well located and near some of the region’s best attractions (don’t miss the church and its park in the heart of Chapada dos Guimaraes). It has most of its rooms in separate well designed (though closet less) cabanas (small chalets). ----- But our experience:
•	Beautiful pool setting and well-intended Cida (owner of the place), whose constant smiles helped the setbacks look brighter.
•	My friends (a couple) had a bathroom accident that could’ve happened anywhere. The safety glass-tampered shower door, broke into millions of pieces, without any special reason, when my friend was getting out of the shower, cutting him in several body parts (nothing bad, luckily)
•	The filthy looking bar, attended by the sole or lone-ranger as I nicknamed him, nephew of the owner, was mainly a self-service place, where only a few cokes and bottled waters could be found, not to mention some bottles of vodka or cachaza (local strong drink) waiting for you among the piles of dirty dishes (not exaggerating)
•	As most of the hotel after “curfew”, everything was self service! No one was there to help out. Not even the owner, whose house is on the second floor of the pousada. The last night we were in the place, I couldn’t get any sleep!!! They forgot to turn the whirlpool off and one of the pump that sends water from the well in front of my room (#3) to the main tank. The noise and the vibration were unbearable and at 4 am, after not having slept a single minute and obviously desperate, several hours of trying to find a solution and anyone from the “staff” and having knocked on the owner’s door for 20 minutes, without any service provided, I decided to look for the power source and decided to turn the engine off, after half an hour of search. It was the same every night with the whirlpool.

In other words: Homely place that has almost no service and many things to be improved. I would not give it another try. I think it was a very overprized for the comfort and service (U$220/night), though understanding it was World Cup week for them, compared to other options in the region. And unfortunately we still found a great option nearby, at less than half the price. Service should be everything at a hotel, but here, it’s the least you’ll find.

The owner should really understand that being nice is not enough. You have to run a place to make it nice.

“Less than mixed bag, but close!”

We had to stay here as part of our package of touring the Pantanal and Chapada dos Guimaraes. The rooms are tiny with toilets with glass doors. The pousada itself is right off the highway on a short dirt track surrounded by average houses, but the concentration of dogs, cats and chickens around these houses virtually ensures that you see virtually no birds at all. Our guide said that you get to wake up to the beautiful sounds of birds. If you count the local rooster at 0430 am as beautiful, then I suppose he was right. The breakfast was also quite awful (poor selection, flavourless food). I actually felt myself feeling sorry for the owner who seems to mean well, but it's just an awful location, especially compared to the surrounding environs. On the plus side, the beds are quite comfortable.
