Ilha do Mel

My husband and I had an amazing stay at Grajagan in January. Not only Ilha do Mel is a piece of paradise but the resort is also out of this world! 
It’s is located right at one of the nicest beaches with easy access to landmarks and yet very private. The common areas are very nicely decorated and it’s inspire pure relaxation. The rooms are very cozy and it was lovely to wake up to the sound of the birds. 
We had most of our meals at the hotel, delicious food and incredible friendly staff. By the way, I’d like to say that the staff really made our stay even more special!!

Grajagan is a hotel (not really a resort) located within the beach vegetation of the Praia Grande, in Ilha do Mel.  If you don't pay attention, you may lose it and pass it by.      The place is cool...a little hippie, a little surfer-style.  Lots of Bali-like set-ups, statues, places to seat and watch the beach and the ocean above the trees.  The staff is really nice...rhis is indeed one of high points of the place.  But it is a place for a specific group of travelers.  You need to have a little of hippie or surfer to really enjoy the place...trackers will also enjoy the island since there are so many nice places to go and visit.  Walkig.  There are not cars in the island and to reach the hotel you need to walk for a good 20-30 minutes from the local marina after a transfer from Pontal do Paraná by boat.  Breakfast is nice...pretty complete.  Food is OK...decent, tastes really good, but it is not a fantastic experience (I know, I am picky about food) - the price is right.  The rooms, however, are built in wood (I think this is required for the island) but some look pretty old and too rustic for some people - including me.  Being a biologist, I have stayed in many rustic places (very rustic) and I look for more modern and comfortable places to stay - don't take me wrong, every room has AC and a nice bed.  Internet is sometimes too weak, depending on the room you stay.  The place is expensive, when compared to newer and more comfortable places on the continent, but it is a special experience.

Nice staff, beautiful location, but for a special type of people

Spending a "fortune" to stay in the "best" resort of the island should mean to stay in a structure able to take you to a different level of all other hostels in the area.
The air con in the first room was not working and we spent one night with a fan and a portable AC...thanks to the manager which have taken good care of us but still ...a structure of this level cannot have this kind of defects. The new room was fine but not excellent. Out of 5 or 6 employees we have counted only one was nice and always caring about us. The structure fail in maintenance and ...to my personal taste is full of useless decoration which distract you from the theme of the resort. (S. Francisco talking to the birds statue is really too much). 
Again....a nice structure....10 years ago which have not been properly maintained.

It can be muuuuuuuuch better

As the tile says it, I simply had expectactions that did not fullil. Don't get me wrong, the location is fantastci, just near to a great beach virtually all for yourself, well worth the walk till there. But for the price they asked our bungalow had no internet, no warm water for half a day (before they fixed it) and it was leeking in rain from the floor. Also, the bar/restaruant area is cool, but food simply not up to the standard.

I expected more

First night here and regretting that we only allocated two nights and one full day. Budget at least 3 or 4 days.  Perfect place and setting to get away, relax, etc.  great chef and restaurant, definitely have to come back. Don't come to Paraná without stopping through here. 

Love this place already 

Stayed here for three months, quite simply my favourite place in South America and possibly the world!! The owner makes you feel welcome and the surfing is great!!! I want to live in Grajagan!
I came back here for my honey moon and they did everything they could to make it the highlight of my trip, and guess what, they succeeded!

Best place in the world

This was the second time we have chosen to stay at Grajagan Pousada on the Ilha do Mel. Both times we have been blown away by the friendliness of the staff, the exceptional food and the tranquility of the place itself. The island is car free and a paradise on its own... There maybe many options for places to stay and, despite being at the top end of the price range, Grajagan is surely the best of them all! 
Situated hidden at the back of the golden sanded, Praia Grande...its is adourned by leafy trees, and a wonderful array of exotic wildlife. 
The rooms (authentic wood cabins) themselves are not blessed with high speed internet and 300 Sky TV channels...but they are clean, smart and very comfortable.  Expect the odd mozzie or roach....not because of cleanliness but because you are on a Brazilian island of paradise! 
They cater superbly for children with the restaurant/bar area having a fish pond in the middle and relentless refills of fish food are handed out by cheerful, selfless staff. 
If your desperate to catch your team on ESPN the bar TV is connected to cable and they are more than happy to switch it on for you....and serve you cold Heineken whilst your team struggles to a 0-0 draw! 
The beach its less than 20m walk...and despite there not being any beach bar service you can still help yourself to chairs and umbrellas at no additional cost. 
We shall certainly return...again and again and again!
