Well, I can't say much about this Pousada/hostel. I had a private room, with en suite bathroom. The room was very small like the mini bathroom. There was an a/c, the only working solution to save my skin from the bunch of mosquitos. Obviously the hostel does not contribute to that, but the position is very near to the forest and that does not help for sure. The second day of my staying there, the power missed in all the island, so no charging phone, no a/c, no Wi-Fi that is very poor, very poor. And yes thousands of mosquitos. The positive thing is that it is very cheap and has an interesting patio with hammock. But keep out if you look for a bit of modernity and about that if you do, reconsider how many days you plan to stay on the island.

Poor Wi-Fi in mosquitos-landia 

If your goal for visiting Ilha Grande is to hike every day and stay most of the time in the outdoors this may be a place for you. It is reasonably priced. It is fairly clean. For the price the conditions are acceptable. 
I stayed there two times and I would come back again.

Basic accommodation at a good price

This place ranks at number one by far of the WORST places I've stayed. 
In short: horrible staff, no air conditioning, a mosquito breeding ground, useless kitchen, and a leaky roof.

Now, in detail. We were a 5 person mixed group. We arrived to our 6 person room, and first had to grab paper and tape to patch a broken window. Then, we tried to get the air conditioning working. The machine was probably from the 60s, considering how old it looked, and didn't even turn on. We asked the staff for help, and they immediately started making up excuses, while they tried to charge us for the room. We refused to pay until they fixed the air conditioning, which they eventually promised to have a technician look at the following day.
The next day, they switched the machine for an equally old and useless one, which never did work. The room was basically a swamp, full of mosquitoes (we had to buy one of those electric repellents to try to sleep.) Everything we used at the beach was absolutely wet from the previous day.
The third day was the crowning glory. There was a huge thunderstorm (something quite common on the island), and when we got to our room, we found 4 leaks. The whole floor was wet, so we had to put all luggage on the beds. We went to complain, and discovered the whole hostel smelled like a backed up sewer, and their only reaction was to offer us a few pails for the water. Eventually, electricity went out on the whole island, which meant no fan, and no mosquito repellent. Everything we had was wet and humid. At this point it was raining so hard (streets flooded with at least 20 cm of water) that looking for another place was impossible. 
The next morning, after no sleep, we had to check out and pay. We explained all that happened to the receptionist, and her answer to the leaks was "That's what happens when it rains", followed by what apparently was a string of insults and curses in Portuguese. Eventually, we decided to pay about 2/3 of what was due.

The only decent thing: breakfast.

Don't waste your money (and time)

We stayed here for four nights in a 4 people dorm. The room was pretty nice, though there were almost no working electric outlet. The aircondition that was promised only worked if you asked The Staff to put it on, which they Did not always do. 
The location is pretty good in villa do Abraão. The breakfast was nice, but The food ran out pretty fast so you could not really get full. The cleanliness was okay, but the Rooms got soaked when there was a storm. The wi-fi stopped working as well, which by The way could only be accessed in The lobby. One person in The Staff was really unfriendly and rude, which Made our stay quite unpleasant actually. 

Decent place

Extremely disappointed with this hostel. The place is dirty and run down and staff are not helpful. We had damp in our room and a hole in the window where it must have previously been smashed. There was an old air con machine that was coming through the wall, with gaps all around the edge, yet the only source of relief from the heat was a measly fan. As you can imagine, bugs were attracted to the room! We attempted to cook in the kitchen facilities one night but gave up as extremely dirty. The wifi was also terrible and worked maybe around 40% of the time.
Luckily, the beauty of the island made up for all of it.
