This is an old type hotel, with rooms spacious, but a but rundown. The staff is very helpful and friendly. The breakfast is average. There is a french restaurant within the premisses, apparently very good thought a but pricy. The localization is really convenient, at walking distance from Praça da República, the city center, Ver o Peso market and the Docas (these last a bit of a walk). It is a good cost-benefit.

My wife and I stayed 5 nights with a Hotels.com reservation.
Arriving late at the Belem Airport, I used its costly ATM(over 15% fee to get BRL) to pay for a taxi ($12.50 US), arriving here at 9:30 PM. After checking in, the Portuguese-speaking receptionist led us down the interior court and up to the 1st floor in the back. Room #16 was to be our requested quiet double which surprisingly had a loft queen, accessed with a dangerous curving stairs. We then requested a normal room but were told none were available and ours was in fact an upgrade.  So we made the best of the situation by both sleeping on single beds on the bottom and using the loft for laundry and storage.
The 6:30 AM breakfast buffet in the court restaurant(with AC) is well provided with juices, fruit, breads, scrambled eggs, cheese, ham, muesli cereals, cakes and coffee.
I exercised in the medium sized pool and also by continually walking near the restaurant to get working WiFi, until replaced on 3rd day with stronger network.  
We walked 500 m southwest to the Republic Square's cambio and Theatro da Paz, 800 northeast to the bountiful Supermarket Lider Doca and 2 blocks west to the large Boulevard Mall with its excellent 4th floor food court.
While not pleased with our specific room, no English channels on TV, no hot water and noisy room fans, this hotel offers a great location, beautiful woodwork, peaceful courtyard and excellent value at $47 US per night.

the hotel is quiet, the room is clean and comfortable, the mattress is good; the aircon works well and not noisy. the brakfast is so so; the staff is nice. the small swimming pool is a plus.

We stayed here for 4 nights at the start of our trip in Brazil. The location is very quiet eventhough we slept at the street side of the hotel and above the reception. It is at walking distance from the square with the theatre and an easy stroll to the docks. (I would not recommend walking after sunset.) We took taxi's or Uber at night and the short distances and cheap prices made that we ventured out a lot. The receptionists either spoke French or English very well and gave lots of information or helped us with our requests. The room was decent and clean. The breakfast very good and tasty every day!  Lots of choices of veggies, fruits, cold meats and cheeses, cakes, sweets, cereals etc.  We also had dinner in the restaurant at night and enjoyed the fusion French/Brazilian cuisine. The swimming pool was clean and well kept. We enjoyed sitting in the garden and the hallway on the first floor overlooking the swimming pool.  

Very good service by the receptionists.

An interesting, "funky" place.  While the room was adequate, the safe did not work (we were not offered another room) the pool had no water. Breakfast was OK and it was nice to have a romantic little restaurant and bar just across the hall (where you are likely to find French expatriates).  Was not within walking distance of any other restaurant that we could see. Seemed to be fairly safe walking in the day, but not a night.  They will call a taxi.

Interesting place, but.

Great hotel. Great staff. Super hotel owner. We felt at home directly. This place allowed us to relax and power up for a serious upcoming business year.  The restaurant also a nice place to eat. Love this place would definitely recommend it.  The pool is not really for little kids. As my daughter is 1 year old so you need to be aware of that.

Very nice hotel for who wants to explore the city and take a nice swim in the pool afterwards. Amazing breakfast with brazilian treats. We had a very nice weedend here.  The meat was a little bit raw but very nice dinner. Love the tropical look.
