Very well placed  but:
Unkind and not courteous service ; chief of personal of check -in , in my opinion non polite and unpleasant
Very bad breakfast with for example not fresh orange juice but what they call “sumo de caixinha”
Room without windows to the street
So after one night we have to change to another hotel 

Bad service

A couple of weeks ago some friends and I spent 3 nights at the Pousada Classica which, I must say, is very pretty and well located. However, upon checking out, I was very angry and disappointed at the way I was treated. I requested that my car be brought to me from the pousada garage, where it had been for a couple of days, driven by the pousada employees. Not once I drove my car in or out of the garage. To my surprise, I found yellow scratches and a dent on the passenger door and fender, consistent with the color of the garage rails and posts. I immediately showed the problem to the pousada employees who, in return, dismissed any responsibility and even tried to convince me that I must have caused the damage myself some place else. I asked to speak to the manager who supposedly was not there at the moment and was told that he would contact me later. It has been a couple of weeks since the incident and I have not received any calls or messages from Mr. Nerlei Fialho, the manager. I took pictures of the damage and reported the incident in the hotel book but have not received any response. It's unfortunate that a pousada like that has no respect for its guests and I do not recommend staying in a place that treats its guests this way!

Disrespectful service

It was close to the center (but not too close) and had good standard. Good breakfast and service. The staff could speak enough English. Very colonial style.

This pousada is NOT safe. At 9:15 am a man with a key opened the door while my partner was in the shower and I was changing. I called out, but did not want to get out from under the sheet that was covering me. The man left and I assumed it was a mistake with housekeeping.

After a long day out my partner and l returned to change before dinner. While he was changing the door unlocked again and my partner watched it open When he called out, the person closed and locked the door. My partner ran after and a man was running down the stairs and said he was room service. 

When we can talked with hotel staff they claimed to not have access to the security camera footage, wouldn't move us to another room, and refused to call the police or go to the police station. My partner had to go find police to help on his own. The hotel also refused to help us find alternative accommodations or refund after forcing us to pay in advance. 

It is unclear whether the man intended theft, assault, sexual assault, or murder but this whole experience was horrible. The staff did not take appropriate measures to make sure guests are safe. Even when alerted to the issue, the hotel did NOT respond in a way that made us feel safe.

Horrible! Break in while we were in room

Beautiful Ouro Preto's most interesting and attractive street, cobblestoned and steep as almost all of them, is the Rua Conde de Bobadela, leading up to Praça Tiradentes. On this street are most of the shops, several restaurants and also the Pousada Classica. Location of this small hotel couldn't be better.

The welcome by the reception was friendly and later I could organize through them a private day tour to neighboring villages and also my transfer back to the Belo Horizonte airport. English is not spoken, but with my elementary Portuguese we managed.

The deluxe room I had booked was at the back, up some stairs. The view out the window was towards a parking lot, when looking down, but towards nice tile-roofed houses and green hills, when looking straight. The twin room itself was small (16sqm) and basic, and unlike the hotel building itself with no touch of old Ouro Preto. 

In any case it was a functional room, there were several plugs, a wardrobe, three drawers, a writing desk and an empty fridge, which I could fill with water bottles bought from a big fridge by the reception. Whatever one took there was charged to the room. Quite convenient. No complaints about the bathroom, which also had toiletries. And since I was at the back, away from busy Rua Conde de Bobadela, it was quiet at night, all I could hear was the pleasant sound of church bells.

Breakfast is served in a cellar, below the reception and the choice was good.

The room was a reasonable size but its best feature was the lighting and plugs alongside the bed for those of us with multiple devices.  We had a pleasant view of the mountains out our window that we enjoyed as well.  The laundry service was also good and fairly priced.  The hotel had a nice breakfast and an afternoon tea included in the room, both featuring baked goods.  The location of the hotel was very good -- about a 2 minute walk from the Historic Centre.  Within 100m, there was also a good choice of restaurants for lunch or dinner.  Good value for money in our view.  Be prepared for music until quite late from a nearby bar -- pleasant and not overly loud.

Simple but Well-designed with a Great Location

The hotel is in a very convenient location in the historic centre of Ouro Preto, on one of its main streets, steps away from very good restaurants/bars such as the Casa do Ouvidor, the Opera Cafe, and the Porão Cervejeria. The rooms are simple but functional. The breakfast and the tea snacks that were included in our case were delicious and the parking was also included in the price making this hotel a good value choice for a family who wants to enjoy the historic centre of the town. Highly recommended!

Location, location, location

Our room at the Classica was very simple but fitting to the old town charm of Ouro Preto.  Clean and comfortable. Shuttered window which only provided a view of a small concrete tunnel. Not an issue for us, but if you prefer a view of the city you might want to ask during check in.  Large variety of fresh fruits, cheeses, breads, yogurt served for breakfast.  Staff were very friendly.  Convenient location for walking and touring the many churches and sites of the city.
