I would highly recommend this hostel. It is situated in Meir and is very close to the metro and bus station. It is located in a quiet neighourhood but it still has bars, restaurants and a bank.
The staff are very friendly and helpful. Louis, the owner is particularly helpful. He speaks many different languages and goes out of his way to help you. He also offers a shuttle service to and from the airport.
This hostel has dorm style rooms and you get a basic breakfast included every day.
I really enjoyed my time there and would stay again if I am back in Rio.

Friendly staff

This hostel was incredibly rude. They cancelled my reservation the day before we were supposed to check in claiming I cancelled it. Finally when after I got that sorted, my friend offered us a place and a ride to the airport. For ease, we stayed him so I emailed the hostel letting them know we actually can cancel the reservation and they can charge me in full. Finally, we get a nasty email from them for cancelling after they mistakenly cancelled our reservation already AND I told them they can charge me in full. Not great service at all.

Very Rude

The owner was very nice and our stay there was ok as the price is very reasonable and it is the closest to the airport (we arrived in the evening and left to the airport in the morning, so we just needed a place to crash). The facilities are ok but very simple and the bathroom is not very clean.  
The owner offers a pick up service from the airport but it is cheaper to take a taxi. 

Reasonable price

Closed to the stadium, closed to buses service and 100 m. from Meir train who brings you down Rio in no time. You are in a safe neighborhood and closed to markets and budget restaurants. Louis is all service, always ready to help you in any situation. He speaks English, Portuguese, French... He offer a airport taxi the best price when you stay at his Hostel
Basic but clean, with fan or AC, you have all different kind of room from dormitories to private with share bathroom. Our room was perfect, except the bed mattress was "done".
 There is a share kitchen and a simple included breakfast with good coffee. For Rio de Janeiro, it's a good choice.

Easy to reach

Here's what it says about this hostel booking.com: El Trek-And-Fly Hostel offers affordable accommodation in Rio de Janeiro, just 14 km from Galeao Airport. It offers free Wi-Fi, open-air parking and airport service. We arrived at the airport and of the 15 taxi drivers who lived there, 14 didn't know the neighborhood where it was located and only one did if he knew it and refused to take us, because it was a dangerous place, so we had to stay at the house of a Chilean dog that, for God's sake, we knew at the airport. Otherwise, thank you maybe we would have stopped.

In this Hostel no staff! no reservations or visits!

this hostel is good enough and may be worth going in some situations.
everything in the hostel is good but nothing is great.

they are very good in helping you move through the city and providing information about the neighborhood.
The hostel is located in Meier. Well, Meier may not look great, but is a safe place. The CON about Meier is everything closes early and its 1h bus from every mayor spot in RJ.
So if you are staying for just a few days maybe is better to go to copacabana, lapa, gloria.....

one good thing about this hostel is that the owner runs it, and he speaks english, portuguese and spanish and you can negotiate your staying conditions directly with him. This is a big PRO if you dont speak local language.
