I am extremely late reviewing this but I was here for a week over New Years 2015 and enjoyed my experience.  The staff was generally friendly and helpful and had all kinds of events that anyone could take advantage of.  I stayed in a private room with its own bathroom and it was clean, comfortable, and safe.  I had no problems with AC or hot water which seem be common throughout Brazil.  If you are traveling with friends or solo and want to meet new people and have a fun time I would definitely recommend it.

Awesome Location with Fun Environment

Ok so ignore the just travelled date as I actually went for 2012 Carnival and stayed a few nights here before moving into Lappa.  Very helpful reception staff who managed to accommodate an extra night in a double room when we were supposed to be moving into dorms.  Would stay again.

2012 Carnival

I live in Rio, but went there to test the hostel before recommed it to some friends from the USA.

Not only it is pretty comfortable, with a really kind staff and located in one of the most famous neighborhoods in Rio (Leblon!), but in my opinion its strongest point is its address.

Travellers must always pay attention in Rio to robbers and pickpocking (please, do not show your camera, phone or ipad while walking in the streets), and one way to keep yourself secure is to walk in enlighted and somehow crowded streets. The point in General San Martin where Z.Bra is located is surounded by bars and restaurants open until late hours. It doesn't mean you should not pay attention, but it gives some kind of security (and a pleasant nightlife).

From Leblon you can take a walk to Ipanema by the beach, take a taxi to Lagoa or a bus/metro to any other part of the city.

For moving around, try to buy a "Vale Transporte Rápido" (VT). It is sold by the city's department of transport in some specific points for R$80 or R$120. The VT can be used in bus and subway all around the city, making your travel pretty easier than walking around with money paying for everytime you take a transport.

You really should try it when coming to Rio

I stayed at Zbra for a week, really nice hostel and amazing staff! Big thanks to Constanza for early check-in and Cristian for all advices. Breakfast is simple, but good, you can have everything you want, from cereal to sandwiches and fruits. The neighborhood is very very safe, only 1 block from the beach, close to bars and shops in the stylish area - Leblon. There's free wifi, lockers, air conditioning in the bedrooms. If it's cold for you in the room, just ask for the plaid ;) You can also take umbrella to the beach, or take a longboard and ride along the best beach. I'll stay here again if I come back to the city of God!

Great hostel in best location

We had a private room in this hostel and were not disappointed. Great location, very safe and excellent facilities in our private room. Staff were very helpful and made amazing caiprinhas. Great value for money and the loan of beach gear was very much appreciated.
