I turned up for my reservation to find out the hostel was overbooked and they had made no effort to try to contact guests in advance to let them know and allow them to book somewhere else in advance. I used their wifi to find another hostel but they didn't even pay the extra cost of a second taxi need to move hostel despite it not being my fault. I ended up with little choice of hostel since it was New Years in Rio when everything last minute is really expensive and pretty much full. Disgraceful service! What I did see of the place seemed hot, cramped and not particularly clean and the toilet doors were made of frosted glass so little privacy.

Overbooked and poor customer service

Let me start by stating that I don't usually leave reviews when I stay in hostels, but this place deserved one, unfortunately not a good one. 
My sister and I got there and the attendant promptly showed us to our room, the room had six beds, but no one was staying there, so we were free to choose our beds. Off to a good start, so I thought.. We covered the mattresses with the sheets the receptionist gave us and went to the city. When we came back to the hostel a few hours later we noticed some insects on the sheets. Guess what?? Bed bugs and ticks! They were everywhere! 
The owner said he would place us in another room and give us a 50% discount. We went to the other room. The room was as dirty as the previous one, we didn't bother to look for any bugs. We left that filth place, it was impossible to stay there.

STAY AWAY. The most DISGUSTING place ever!

The staff where friendly and up for a laugh and a night out which was great. Good English. 
They only provide a map of the local area rather than of Rio as a whole so you have to go to tourist information for one. You have to clearly ask for information, you will not receive a induction of Rio/ excursions when you arrive. We did not notice the list of excursions for a week. 
The room was fine, basic, except the aircon is at the end of someones bed and noisy, so they got really cold or they turned it off whilst everyone else got hot. Some of the lockers are smashed into/broken and rusty so we shared one. The bathroom is cleaned daily and there is a female bathroom but the shower doors did not shut properly and were a little transparent, the floors where always wet and flooded. They kept really old floor mats down and generally was not nice to be in. There was never soap to wash your hands with. 
The kitchen we avoided. The common area is very enclosed and the way it is layed out meant it's difficult to avoid 2nd hand smoke. It seemed to be very much an Israeli place, though meant we got to meet some really interesting people. They ran out of drinking water for a few days. If you want to change your dates at the hostel, ensure to tell them how many nights rather than dates to avoid issues.

Disliked this hostel 

Lots of good energies, perfect for a budget travler, very helpful and friendly staff, you can ask them anything and they will help(;
Wifi works good which is rare in budget hostels haha.. nice doorms, 3 bathrooms which one of them is girls only (which is a nice bonus).
You have a supermarket close by, metro station as well. Breakfast is good😌 I really enjoyed my stay there.
