Location: we found it to be good in the Botofogo area. It is quite busy district with a lot of bars and restaurants were locals go out.
Safety: we did not feel unsafe at any moment, including in the evening. The area is less hype and touristy than Coppa or Ipanema, but probably this is a good thing as there are less tourist hunters or other type of disturbers.
Room quality: clean spacious rooms, free wifi.
Service: Ricardo was very helplfull for all our questions, breakfast was basic but pleasant with a good make it yourself choice and coffee.

Overall we would recommend this place to get a feel of the local vibe, afforable price and good quality rooms. Logistics wise it is a good starting point if you intend to visit Pao Azucar or Centro.

Very good value and pleasant experience

Ricardo's B&B is located in Botafogo, really close to bus stop and metro station. Convenient to go to Copacabana, Ipanema, Lapa and tourist attractions.

Ricardo is really welcoming and makes sure you feel at home. He had great tips to helped us move around the city.

If you are laid back and looking to really know the city this is the place to stay.

Amazing B&B in Botafogo

Hospitable, welcoming, always smiling, friendly and extremely helpful host Ricardo. He will give you the best advice how to stay safe, what places deserve a visit (apart from the main attractions) and helps you experience Rio's magic. He will tell you stories about the life in Rio and the habits of the people.
Location - safe and quiet, close to public transport. Bus stops and metro to take you to the main attractions around the city are just 5 min walk away! Big supermarket nearby. Breakfast is good with a variety. Place is very clean.

Absolute must in Rio

In my view this is the best place to stay in Rio (I stayed in Copa and Ipanema as well). It's a homestay not a hotel (if you want a hotel please go to one!)....this house and the experience are lovely. I stayed in a double room with en suite bathroom which was simple but clean with air con and tv and hot shower. The breakfast was great - fresh rolls with ham and cheese, various jams, biscuits, cake and as much coffee as you need. The house security is great with a finger print scanner as just one thing. The owner, Ricardo is truly lovely and made my stay. I spent every morning chatting to him over my breakfast. Lots of tips and advise to getting about and where to go etc. he goes out of his way to help you wherever he can. 
If I was ever to go back to Rio I would stay here for sure!!

Best place to stay in Rio

I have lived in São Paulo for 10 years and only get to Rio once or twice a year. Usually, I stay in more touristy areas like Copacabana, Ipanema or Santa Teresa but this time I decided to try Botafogo and, after a three day stay, I am thrilled that I did. 

Ricardo is a wonderful host as he is very bright, knowledgeable and extremely customer-centric. If every B&B in the world was run like his, I would be tempted to become a permanent nomad.

I stayed at his place with my wife and we liked the room (fast wifi, great air conditioning and a nice bathroom stocked with supplies). It is not a Hilton but it has the charm of a house about to turn 100.

The neighborhood is safe and has plenty of bars and restaurants that ooze a neighborhood vibe. You also can get to Copacabana by bus or Ipanema by metro very quick.
