I stayed several nights in the Dom Preguiças Hostel. Marlene is very kind and helpful and keeps her business in order. Everything is super clean and nicely decorated. You can use the kitchen and the location is very good.

Excellent place to stay in Alter do Chao

The don Preguica is a very special place, in a very special location. The place is literary on the beach, 50 meters from the center. Very clean etc. But more than that, Marlene is creating a place where everybody feels at home and for the duration of your stay, it feels like you have a family in alter do chão 

Coolest hostel I have stayed in my Life

The hostel and staff were perfect. Very welcoming and got all the tips for the main attractions.
The location is very good for beaches, food and fun.

Fantastic

Very close to the river, nice environs, clean establishment. A lounge-kitchen area with hammocks. Breakfast was really simple (just bread, juice and coffee). I hoped for something cheaper, but still a good place to stay in Alter.

Cozy setting and friendly staff

We enjoyed the days in Alter do Chao thanks to the owners of The hostal. They recommend us a very interesting tour with native people. The ambient was very friendly. The couple, Lorena and Andre are very good to introduce you to the brazilian culture.

The best experience in Alter do Chao

Great place for holidays, I've been at the Don Preguiça Hostel in October and it was amazing. The rooms are just for 4 people and this allow to have some privacy, every room have a clean bathroom and air conditioning and the hostel is very comfortable. The common space is open and big and there are free hammocks where to chill out. The owners André and Guilherme are very friendly, open to show the beautiful places around Alter do Chao and to organize boat tours in the nature with the masterly local guide. I had great time and felt like home but in a amazing place in the middle of Amazon rainforest.

Great place and very friendly people!

We stayed there for more than one week because we just felt super comfortable there. The staff is awesome and especially the owners know everything about the region. Only because of them we could organize our trip to the community Yamaraqua without an expensive tour operator. Also there, we had a great time and a really authentic jungle experience. Breakfast is basic but all what you need. They sometimes organize Choripan-evenings where everybody sits together - in general it's a super cool place to hang around and get to know people better. We loved the place and recommend it to everybody.

One of my absolute favorite places

The place is well located but some things were not as expected. 

Firstly, we didn't receive any information or instruction when we arrive. The receptionist gave us the key and the linings, and went back to his nap. We just got the rest of information as registering or breakfast time, etc. after asking for it. 
Reg. the room, was not too clean and the plug for the fridge was broken. 
Anyway another guy of the staff was much nicer and helped with anything we needed.
Breakfast is ok but a little late if you plan to go out early for a visit.

As for the trips,I recommend to check some other places within the town. Our experience with the hostel guide was very dissapointing.

Not as expected, but ok for a few days

Cannot fault this place in any way... Great dorm room, 4 beds with big lockers underneath and own bathroom. Clean and everything works! Tables and chairs outside with small kitchen where breakfast is served - basic but fine. They have Hammocks outside as well. Staff are awesome! Two really cool guys run the place & they speak English :) we went on a great tour with one of them into the Amazon. We went on a boat through the rivers, stopped off for a walk through the jungle, saw the giant lily pads and stopped at some beautiful beaches on the way back! Great lunch on the beach! Fish was lovely! (Extra cost). The tour was ace, the boat driver / tour guide we went with was excellent and did everything he could to ensure we had a wicked day! Would highly recommend to get the details of this tour from the hostel when you go ;) 10/10.
