Spa Complex Aleksandar is probably the best place to stay if you are in Zlatograd. Friendly staff, OK Spa and pool as well. 

The rooms are cozy, the pillows were very comfortable as well (the kid liked them a lot, but sadly I took a picture after he went to bed). 

The downsides - the pool was a bit cold for my liking - should have been a bit warmer. The other downside - the breakfast and reception are on the other side of the river so you have to cross the bridge each time to get to them. 

On the plus side - the bridge is recently constructed and it is really nice.

Probably the best place to stay in Zlatograd.

Service at the restaurant is terrible. Slow-waiters. The staff isn't friendly and professional unfortunately. But the biggest problem is when there are groups of tourists - then it is a real horror! I will not go there ever again.

Bad service

I had booked 2 rooms as a treat for Bulgarian friends. We were visiting other friends living in the area. Firstly I was disappointed to learn that my friends had a smaller room than my partner and I, quite a bit smaller yet the same tarif.
The reception staff were friendly on arrival.  Be aware that the complex is on 2 sides of the main road through the town - you check in and eat breakfast on one side and sleep and spa on the other.  Once the car is parked at the small car park outside the accommodation then you can use a footbridge across the river, between the 2 sides.
The rooms were clean and tidy and equipped with a TV and a hairdryer.
To be honest I expected more for a spa hotel. Other spa hotels in Bulgaria have proved to be much better.  Please also be aware that part from the pool you will be asked to pay to use all the spa facilities - sauna, steam, jacuzzi etc.
My partner and I took massages which were very satisfactory and relaxing.
I guess the most disappointing thing about the stay was that there was no maid service for the second day and the breakfast was far from satisfactory.  The coffee was awful and the breakfast choices were very limited. It was so poor that we chose not to eat breakfast in the hotel on our second morning.


Adequate

Important to know that you have to collect your room key/s from the reception desk at the Alexandrov's Houses hotel, on the other side of the river. (You can easily move between the two on foot by using the footbridge over the river) 

The Spa Complex is well named. The restaurant and bar are only open for functions, although the spa complex and the indoor pool are open from 10am until around 6pm.

So, breakfast and lunch/dinner and drinks can be taken at the Alexandrov's Houses Hotel. A voucher is given on arrival for the breakfast which is not a buffet but a choice of 5 variations plus tea or coffee.
The outdoor pool is also located over the river at the Alex. Houses site. 

The actual hotel room is very spacious and clean. Large bathroom, good shower and liquid soap/shower gel is supplied. 
Good in room fridge supplied and with excellent wi fi and AC, nothing to complain about. 

I noticed an ironing board and iron left in the corridor for general use by guests. 

Staff DO respect the Do Not Disturb sign.

Very good value for money, in a charming large village, (pop. circa 7,000).

I assume that the facilities of one hotel are free to use by guests at the sister hotels?

Excellent value lunches available at the Alex. Houses site, as well as great very cold beers. Some staff are less than jolly during breakfast service, although I am sure that this will not be news to them! 

A very enjoyable stay in a relaxing area.

Unusual hotel complex in the mountains very close to the Greek border

this hotel is one of the most clean hotels i've ever been. great spa facilities and delicious food at hotel's tavern. is situated in an ethnographic complex and the buildings are so beautiful especially when it snows.
