Lovely little pool area staff are very very friendly cheap beer Serve you all night if you sit there the only thing that lets this place down is there is no food around the pool on a daytime. Rooms could do with a little bit of modernising. Would definitely stay again, but I would like to see food  around the pool.

Nice, quiet a little hotel

The staff(mainly some middle age guy) not allowing you to bring anything to drink/eat from outside their bar. You are basically obliged to buy from them. Literally the first hotel i've experienced this. Looks like they are desperate to get the last penny from your pocket.
Beds and mattreses were 20 yrs old with a topper on them. Not comfortable at all.
There were holes in the bathroom ceiling, spiders in the rooms. The lights in one of the rooms were turning off and on by themselves.
The food is not so great and always the same.
The staff people were drinking, screaming and laughing loudly on the terrace until 2AM.
I was definitely expecting something else from this hotel when booked it.

We stayed at this hotel a few years ago and although not the best we had a pleasant time. And when Balkan did a deal here we decided to give it another go. The breakfast and coffee were dismal, to say the least previously. However, on our return visit, we were pleasantly surprised.
The room over the pool was lovely and cleaned every day if we wanted.
The breakfast was a 100% improvement with a good tasty English or continental and the coffee was nice but strong.
Will we go back, yes of course.

Better this time.

Nice little hotel in a quiet location, just set back off the road. There's a good supermarket about 2minute walk away and a money exchange about 1minute away. Rooms a nice size and beds comfortable. Maids in everyday. Breakfast isn't too clever. Bacon, sausage scrambled egg, fried egg and and eggy bread everyday. Toast machine takes ages. Continental breakfast is better with ham, cheeses, salami, cereals and fruit. Now onto staff. Well what can I say. The lady was very nice and friendly. The young girl behind the bar during the day was as miserable as sin. Never seen her smile all week. Very abrupt too. The man was just as miserable. The girl who worked the bar from 10 at night till morning was very friendly. Never seen the pool area hosed down at all in the week I was there. Plenty of sunbeds and reserving them didn't happen, although they are a bit dated and not too good for your back. Drink is cheap enough at 3.50 leve for a pint bottle of lager and 2 leve for small water. No food during the day but supermarket sells cooked chicken and cakes and the like at good prices. Cross over a busy main road to head towards the beach and flower street. Beach loungers and parasols are 10 leve each for the day. To sum it up. Would I go again? Not to this hotel..No Reason? The staff put me off. Just acted like they weren't interested and didn't wanna be there. Bulgaria. Yes.  although most of the Bulgarian people are very abrupt,especially in the shops. If you're looking for a quiet holiday then this is the hotel for you. 

Quiet hotel close to shops and beach 

Lovely pool. The type of no frill accommodation we needed for a week's get away from busy London life. Minutes away from the excitement of Sunny Beach, but decent distance for peace and quiet bobbing in the pool. Helpful lady at the reception.

Peaceful hotel

Second time here great location no restaurant though breakfast only no daytime snacks young girl behind bar quite rude and straight faced other staff were fine mattress topper s stained and burn marks apart from that all good


Really nice hotel all the staff were friendly rooms clean and tidying, pool and outside of hotel kept clean ,never had any food in the hotel as it was so cheap to eat out ,we visited nessebar which was nice 2 lev each on the bus ,bus stop 50 yards or so from hotel will definitely be back 👍

Fab holiday

Hotel Smolyan is one of the best hotels in Smolyan. It is situated in the city centre. I was there on 14th of December 2013. Go there and take a rest for a while when you have more free time and spend your vacation near the nature in Rhodope mountain.

One good place for your accomodation in the city of Smolyan!

Stayed here August for a week with my mum. 
Basic quiet cheap hotel 
Good location not on the strip but walking distance to it and bars restaurants shops.
Hotel is small and clean enough. 
Only down side was there is not enough sun beds for amount of people staying which is very annoying. 
Room is spacious carpet in room tiles in bathroom air con is free and built in the room. 
Bathroom tiles could have been a bit cleaner had some marks on them and shower curtain was dirty and room curtain also would be nice to see these changed each time. 
Food and drinks reasonable price at hotel supermarket 2 min walk away. Hotel next door can be nosey but wouldn’t say it keeps you awake over hours or that.

Good value for money

We just got back on  Sunday night after a week in Smolyan hotel. We booked room only as we like eating out. And we didn't use the pool as we prefer the beach.
I was very surprised to see some negative reviews on the hotel so I'm focusing mainly on the things people complained about.
The decor may have been a bit dated but the hotel is very clean. Towels changed daily, beds every other day.
Air con worked fine as did the tv and there was even a few English speaking channels.
We felt the hotel to be safe/secure and didn't rent a safe, mainly as we had Starling cards, but we did have some valuables lying around. They were as we left them.
I'd recommend Smolyan hotel and happily stay here again.
