I stayed in a simple but spacious junior suite with a great view overlooking the river and Memorial to the Assen Dynasty.

The family were friendly and helpful throughout and the breakfast was excellent as well as plentiful.

I plan to come back to Veliko Tarnovo for a few days and will definitely be back here to stay of to visit the restaurant.

Friendly, family run place

﻿I booked this hotel via email with Lozanka approx 8 months in advance. 
On the day of arrival everything seemed to go smoothly, as a small hotel/ b&b they asked us to pay at check in. 
Room was basic, nothing special and when we asked for advice on local hikes neither the owner (Lozanka) nor the check in lady were able to give any suggestions, directed us to the information centre and then added it would be closed for holidays during our visit. Considering they are running a hotel and are in the business of tourism they should have knowledge of local things to do. 
I also reserved a table for dinner in their restaurant downstairs weeks in advance, the meal was nice. 
However after returning to our room after dinner a party in the restaurant started with music blaring all the way to our room (on the 3rd floor). At 10pm we went down and were told by the older lady (mother of the owner?) that the music would be finished by 11pm. At 11.15pm the music and singing was still going on. We went back down witnessing the same lady partying with everyone, very obvious that the hotel owners were having a private family party. Another staff member came out, we explained to him, he went to talk to her. She then walked away from him and carried on with the party. We waited a few more minutes and Lozanka (who we had booked via email and who also spoke to us at check in) came over, we again explained to her. She said another 15 minutes (it all finally finished at 11:45pm), that it was a birthday party for her father and that when we went for dinner we would of seen this other table laid out to know it was for a party and we could have found another hotel at 6pm if we didn’t like it. 
Outrageous and unbelievable unprofessional behaviour from this owner. 
The next morning we had breakfast which was nice and asked to check out and be refunded for the remaining night. The original check in lady said “there won’t be a party tonight” which of course we couldn’t be sure of plus the owner had told us to leave. She then called Lozanka who sounded like she’d been woken up (from the late party!). Luckily for us we’d booked via email so no cancellation policy or charges applied compared to if we’d booked through an online website (as they both asked us how we’d booked). The owner told her colleague to refund us. 
The owner would have known with plenty of time that they would be having a party, as we hadn’t prepaid they could of easily emailed me to inform of this so I could decide if I wished to stay or not. But seems they are dishonest and terrible business people and hosts. 
Avoid this hotel at all costs. It looks quaint and historic from the outside, go look at it for a quick visit. But their attitude is not how you run a business so avoid at all costs.

Terrible owner, hosted private party without warning & said “leave if you don’t like it”

Exceptional service and food here - will always go out of my way to visit -  love this restaurant highly recommended with open log fire place - good historic venue re General Gurko 👍👏🥂 i have been here several
times  and never had a bad meal or service - always a joy to visit in my opinion - will keep returning every time I visit Bulgaria 🇧🇬

Exceptional service and food

Small and nice hotel in a lovely street in Veliko Tarnovo center. It is a bit hard to arrive by car, but they have a garage and parking is included in the price. Our room was large enough, well equipped and with a beautiful view. Bed wasn’t comfortable. 
Breakfast is served at the restaurant (no buffet) in a cozy and Bulgarian ambience, foods and drinks are of good quality. 
We had a dinner at the restaurant and we enjoyed it very much.  Staff is kind. Good value for money.


I recommend it to you

As my title states, there is so much to love about this hotel. We loved it charm, location, big rooms, and friendly staff. It is beautiful on the inside and the outside.

The only reason that I did not get five circles is because I thought that the food was not five circles.  Maybe it was what we were given to eat, but it was just for circles.  The stuffed peppers were not very flavorful.  

I certainly recommend this place.

So Much to Love About This Hotel

Is a great hotel în the historical center of Veliko Tarnovo. The hotel is very nice, rustic, with an stunning view and the host is frendly and nice.The room was big, clean and very nice. The breakfast was very good, also Lunch and dinner. I warmly recomand this hotel. Everyone is very nice and helpfull. You can visit many beautiful places în Veliko Tarnovo!

Great

We stayed here just for 1 night and it was very pleasant. The room was big, sparkling clean and well furnished. Breakfast was very tasty, with fruits, yoghurt, milk, coffee, bread, eggs and a lot more. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We recommend and probably will come back with next occasion.

Wonderful

Have been staying at Hotel Gurko since 2016 whenever in Veliko Turnovo and just visited again in July 2022. For me this is the best hotel in town with great views of the city and wonderful atmosphere created by the terrific staff working at this family owned hotel. One could not ask more kind and courteous people and the food at the restaurant is terrific.

Highly recommend that anyone having to stay in Veliko Turnovo to give this hotel a try … you will not be disappointed.

Great hotel with wonderful staff

Room 22 (third floor) is a very large room (big enough for having a party, but I’m sure hotel management wouldn’t appreciate that): there’s a large (but quite low) double bed which was quite comfortable (but mind the wooden frame around it as you may hurt yourself), just a net curtain, 2 fairly low sofa’s, and a small but decent and clean bathroom (shower only). There’s a fridge and electric kettle, WIFI works well, but the AC is quite noisy so we didn’t use that overnight. There’s a wardrobe, 2 nightstands with reading lights, a large low table and a small cupboard containing antiques. Strangely, there’s only one socket (near the floor next to the bathroom)– if you need a second one, you’ll have to unplug the fridge. There’s a TV with very few English-language channels, it does have CNN. The view of the city is great: as the hotel is fairly high up, there’s a lot to see. Breakfast is in the adjoining building, where you’ll find a few tables. As there is no buffet and no menu to choose from, the tables get filled to the brim, resulting in quite a few things being taken away again once you’ve left, which we felt was a great waste. We had dinner here once with a group of 9 people: on the menu there was plenty to choose from (incl. some vegetarian options), but serving was quite chaotic (one group member only got his dish when some others had almost finished theirs). Overall: not too bad (I guess we got lucky with our room), even though we heard from some group members their rooms were quite disappointing.

Nice views

This is a small family hotel located within walking distance to the main sights, shops, bars and restaurants, yet it is very quiet. The room was very clean and spacious and had a lovely view of the river and art museum. The bathroom was small, but it didn't bother us. Breakfast was good and plentiful. A mini bar and a tea/coffee maker were available in the room, which we found very hepful. The hotel owner and staff were very friendly, helpful and willing to go above and beyond to make their guests feel welcome. Would definitely stay here again.
