My husband and I had reserved a double room at Villa Zentao for 30th December to 3rd January, 4 nights in total. We ended up staying just one night and foregoing the rest of our stay for several reasons. When we arrived by taxi to the hotel there was a sign outside saying rooms start at 40 dollars a night, which was crossed out and replaced with one saying 29 dollars a night. Not the greatest start, seeing as we’d paid an average of 157 dollars a night. 

I totally appreciate there is always a surge in price over the New Year period, my Mum used to run a B&B so I understand this is common practice. However, raising the price by 5 times is ridiculous. Especially if you consider the hotel, the staff and the rooms. 

The hotel is tired. I mean knackered. As soon as you walk into the reception area you see a tired, unloved building. The rooms are spacious, however they are not fit for purpose. Mould in the bathroom, dirty toilet paper and no bathroom mirror. The shower head fell on my forehead, and you could see it was already broken and someone had attempted to glue it back on. The aircon didn’t work and the room had a damp smell. 

Breakfast was a farce. A few stale croissants and a bowl of fruit covered with flies. The hotel could be compared to Fawlty Towers, the French guy who was serving breakfast was also running into the reception to answer calls and deal with new arrivals. Whoever owns the hotel clearly doesn’t care for the upkeep of this hotel which is a shame as it has potential.

The worst part is the deception. I booked this hotel having seen great reviews and lovely photos of the beachside, the pool and loungers. The photos I’ve seen on Booking.com and on Tripadvisor are 100% not of this hotel which is a false representation. I’ve reported this in the hope that others aren’t deceived like I was when I chose this hotel. This hotel is NOT on the beachside, there are NO views of the sea. If you see photos of lovely rattan furniture and loungers by the sea these photos are not of Villa Zentao or their “partner hotel” in any way, despite what the staff will say.

I could go on, but the reason I’m leaving this review now is that after 6 months I have finally received a full refund from my credit card company after making a claim under section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974. I don’t want to harm this hotel, but I want people who book there to have the right information before doing so and for the hotel to be transparent in their dealings with customers. I’ve noticed some particularly nasty responses from Sao, the hotel manager, so I’m fully expecting a nasty, defensive reply. Instead of doing that, Sao, why don’t you take the time to think about how you can manage customer’s expectations better and ways to improve their experience.

I have to say overall I loved Cambodia, especially the people who are so incredibly warm and kind. My husband and I stayed in some wonderful places and would definitely return to this beautiful country.

Do not believe the false photos and false reviews!

Don't stay here.  Nothing like the photos or description. The "beachside" pool advertised is not at the hotel.  No where near the beach. 
It is no where near the main area of Sihanoukville. 
The food is terrible and food/drinks are way over priced. 
Unable to remove room key from card to keep aircon on when out of room. 
It felt like a jail as no one else seemed to be  staying there.
To eat or have any normal entertainment you would need to head back into town so you may as well stay in main centre of sihanoukville as you will probably  save money and not need to waste it at the hell hole that is villa zentao.

Terrible

A totally different place,  a hudge colonial style villa with a very nice swiming pool, the rooms are very large and the bathrooms very modern , exellent air conditioning. Breakfast very good and complet. Staff and owner allways present to help you. The beach front of the hotel is private and free for us beautiful. This hotel is a haven of peace in this very lively city. 

The best hotel of our trip

1st off the owner did not respond to 5 of our mails. The room stank of mould, so we complained. Their answer was to spray the room with unhealthy insect repellent. The aircon did not work, so we slept in a hot mouldy sauna. We asked for a refund and were assured by the owner we could get this via Airbnb. When we claimed this refund Villa refused to pay. Dishonest, unprofessional liars.

Do not stay here. Terrible, dishonest people.

We arrive on friday around 7pm by taxi from airport booked by the hotel with a very confortable toyota and good driver. The reception immediately put us baggage and offert a free drink. In the restaurant is basic meat, but the nems very good, and very relaxing setting overlooking the pool ligt at nigth. The bed is confortable and slep well both nigths. Breakfast french with croissants and good local jams and excellent honey. 
A good week end hotel, pool, quiet and relaxing.

Good week end

Checkout was ok. We were given a massive room with huge beds & it was very grand. The Bathroom was big but the bath was not fixed which was odd & made a mess. Also no aircon in the bathroom. 

The staff made an effort to help us which we appreciated & they were friendly. Christian drove us to the beach & to another hotel. He also cooked us a really nice meal.
 
The hotel is a 10 min walk from Victory beach which is not a nice beach. You can probably spend one day max at Victory beach at Queenco hotel (you pay to use their pool and beach). The rest of victory beach is pretty dirty.

There is nothing near the hotel. No nice bars or restaurants. 

Basically the hotel is more like a B&B than a hotel. It's pretty deserted and it's just not up to standard-especially at the price they're charging. 

We stayed here one night even though we had paid for eight nd then moved hotels to Koh Rong and Otres2 beach which were so much nicer and about the same price. 

I'm sorry to say that I wouldn't recommend staying here.
