1. Drove around looking for the Hotel sign and there isn't one. It's Governors Hall?
2. Not really a Hotel just student dorms masquerading as a hotel.
3. Parking is free for first 2 hours but apparently the $75 parking fee thereafter is waived for dorm guests.
4. Rooms clean, spartan and no phones to call reception in case of an issue. Two beds were not in the same room but there was a shared bathroom!
5. Room temperature was 23°C upon arrival and AC not functioning. Front desk employees (there were 2) weren't sure how to engage AC but concluded it was on but would take some time to cool down. A half-hour later, the room was at 25°C and climbing.
6. We requested another room but apparently there were none. 
7. We suggested a refund because we were going to another hotel with a functioning AC system.  At first they said no to a refund and we suggested they call the maintenance person to get the AC fixed but apparently there was no such individual. So we protested ie the AC isn't working, there is no one around to repair, the Manager wasn't at work and it was too late to cancel the reservation. So, we're stuck in a greenhouse for the evening at a price approaching $200? After some pushback on our part, they said the Manager (Mr James Tobin (?), who was not available ) would approve a refund. Mr James Tobin was to call us back with the refund details.
8. It has been over 2 weeks, no refund and no return call.
9. Stay away!

Caveat Emptor 

This university residence turns into a hotel in the summer time, and is professionally run.  The front desk staff seem to be uni students, who are knowledgeable and helpful. The room is like a normal hotel room ... bed, desk, chair, bathroom ... but also has a full size fridge.  Everything was clean.  The air conditioning was on full blast throughout the residence and the room was very cold, with no control to change the setting in the room.

Great location ... walk to everything in town

Given the price it is difficult to complain about anything. Our room was very clean although quite small. The walls are quite thin because we heard a snoring neighbour. The place is perfect for a night stay or a stopover for the Cabot trail. Ok

Can’t beat this price

My husband and I were driving around Nova Scotia and visiting Cape Breton and PEI.   We often looked for lodging the same day-cause we wanted flexibility.  Much to our surprise, we stayed at StFX twice--and in the same room.  We checked in at the main desk and then slept in a dorm room-which was fully equipped with private bathroom, refrigerator, microwave, air conditioning and a double bed.  It wasn't fancy...but it was extremely clean...and the price was right for a quick lay over.  So if you ever thought of going back to college dorm life...look no further!


Back to college...just for a night!

Visiting area. Nice room! Super clean! Really quiet! Was great to have free laundry service on site! Always helpful, even better free. No hunting for quarters or a laundry mate while traveling! Super clean! 

Vacation 

We stated here last minute for 2 nights. Staff were so friendly and gave us an early check in when we requested it. Really great facilities for cooking and laundry. Cheap and cheerful! Old tv but great channel selection. This is a great stay for anyone on a budget and needs to refresh from travelling! W

Practical and budget friendly! 

We stayed at the dorm for 1 night.  The dorm and room are nice and clean but very basic.  The room is relatively small, with a double bed and 1 desk and 1 chair.  There is also a fridge, microwave oven and kettle.  The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful.

There is really not a not of activities around that area.  It is a 5-mins drive to Walmart if you need some food.  Keep this in mind that it is a student resident and not a fancy place.  It is good for a short stay in terms of value.

Very basic but good value

Over the course of the last 4 weeks, my mom and I stayed in lots of different places (including 3 other universities). St FX was the nicest surprise! Two bedrooms with double beds, a kitchenette and private bathroom. And it all looks quite new! Super clean, nice hallways and common areas and friendly staff. So glad we stayed!

Wow! 

Stayed two nights and couldn’t be more satisfied. Very clean, quiet and helpful staff. I had never looked into staying at a university before, but was extremely happy I did. Thank You for your great accommodations

Excellent Accommodations

We stopped at this hotel between Halifax and Cape Breton Island. It is located on the campus of the University of Antigonish and offers very good services at a very reasonable price: spacious rooms, quality beds, swimming pool. A nearby cafeteria provides breakfast and you can walk to the centre of the village in a few minutes to eat at the restaurant.
