we originally had reservations for the end of june but the night before we were supposed to go our dog broke her leg. i messaged mountainaire and they were gracious enough to move our reservation to a later date. we camped with our 3yr old granddaughter and she loved it. lots of fun stuff for kids from the park to movie night in the field and a 10 min walk down to a beautiful swimming spot on the river. staff was exceptional and went out of their way to make your stay pleasant.

The owners were wonderful and super accommodating. We had to extend our trip by a few days and no problem we had a site. On our last night, we were going to go stay in a grocery store parking lot, but they actually had some unserviced sites that they allow us to stay at which was wonderful. The people who had trailers for longer stays there or super nice and the camera was clean and very friendly. We definitely stay there again.

June 2024 trip

Nice camping weekend

No privacy. Everyone packed in. Horrible washrooms. 4 women’s toilets for over 100 sites! Dirty. Nature sites are laughable - still campers with generators. Karaoke permitted in campsites? Ridiculous.

NEVER AGAIN!

We went in our motor home for three nights over the Canada Day weekend. It is a well kept and family oriented campground. They were very busy and there were some issues with the washroom facilities. But they were completely out of the staffs control and they did their best to cope. I found all the staff accommodating and was impressed by the efforts to keep dust down on the road. The swimming hole on the river is gorgeous, clear, crisp, and deep. We will certainly go back.

The place is great to stay especially the beautiful and stunning river. However, they only have 1 washroom facility and most of the stalls are out of order, very disgusting washroom. The staffs are also rude.

Untidy washrooms

Pros: The people running the campground were lovely and tried to fix the issue we encountered with our site number being changed and us not informed. The showers were clean, free and have excellent hot water. The playground was well maintained, updated and fun.  The river is crisp and clean and lovely for a little swim for families. The store was cute with little toys and treats. Close to Wild Play.  Campground was quiet during quiet hours.

Cons:  There are a LOT of long term renters here that seem to be living at the campground.  There was no “mountain air” smell here. The campground was heavy with the smell of cigarette smoke and marijuana. We actually had to switch sites (not the site we booked initially) because the people around there were smoking weed all day. Right beside the playground.  My eyes were burning.  A lot of the long term renters smoke and it smelled like smoke all hours of the day.  If you are bothered by that like we were or have small children who shouldn’t be exposed to that, I’d camp elsewhere.  We weren’t able to enjoy the outdoor space and spent most of the time away from our campsite.   The RV sites are small with very minimal privacy.  I’d suggest this campground implement a smoking policy, as the name “Mountainaire” is quite the misnomer.  

Very smoky campground

I’ve camped here twice, June and September 2022. 
This is a great place for small children and families, the office staff were very friendly and helpful, the bathrooms and showers were clean and in good repair. 
The campground has an playground surrounded by huge lawns (fields), a catch and release pond and a long but beautiful walk down to the Nanaimo River. 
The nature sites (no hook ups) were private and quite big. The full hookup sites were closer together and not as private. 
The park was very quiet at night. Lots of happy kids playing all day. 
We will definitely go back!

Great place for families!

Beautiful view … feels great to smell the mountain air!  My room was clean & spacious.  Included a TV, electric fireplace, fridge, small kitchen sink, 2 beds, bathroom with large shower & tub.  It was my way of glamping!  We visited the Zen Den & went swimming a couple times.  There is a Big Horn Falls not far away … follow the river bed to get to the bottom of the falls .. amazing!  Went swimming in the falls too!  Loved the wild horses at Mountain Aire!  Neat to see them wondering through the campground.  I stayed 9 nights.  FYI: there is no daily service like a regular hotel room provides.  I made my own bed everyday & swept the floor, cleaned out the fridge & took out the garbage when I left.  Wifi was very limited!  I stopped by the office about half way into my stay to get some more face clothes, towels & TP!  The staff are very friendly.  The rooms are a little expensive but you are paying for the view.  I’d probably go back again.

The facilities are very good but let down by the fact that the site operator has rules all neatly laid out on a leaflet which they appear not to try and enforce. Most notably a requirement that all dogs must be on a leash at all times. There were many more dogs than we've seen at other Campgrounds, and a large proportion not on a leash. One of them bit my wife while she was walking along the path. The campground is pretty tightly packed with RVs but in a popular location that's not all that surprising. 
Wouldn't stay there again.
