We stayed here recently for 2 nights as a few years ago we "earmarked " it when passing by and then were pleased by the positive reviews on Trip Advisor. It is a basic motel but our room was large and VERY CLEAN with an updated bathroom with fridge and microwave as well as the TV with many channels.  The bed was also very comfortable. As the Motel is set back from the highway it was relatively quiet. The Proprietor, Mike, was very friendly and courteous making sure everything was alright. Would we stay here again ? You bet !!

A Very Nice Stay !

This is our second visit to the Dunlop Motel (first visit was 10 years ago!), and the new owners have updated the rooms. Nothing crazy, but they did paint, remove old carpet, and update some furniture and fixtures. Rooms are a good size, linens are clean. Grounds are well maintained and the building is away from the road, making the rooms quiet. Overall a good night's sleep!

Clean and Safe

The motel is very clean with updated bathrooms and very large room.  The bed were very comfortable and the grounds were very nice with a very large lot and setting.  We slept very well and were very comfortable.  The staff were very nice and took great care of us.  We were very happy that we stayed there and would recommend it to anyone looking for a clean, nice comfortable place that is quiet and very well maintained.

Very nice stay

Small details elevate this motel above the average:  beds are comfortable with nice sheets.  Minor amenities (shampoo, toilet paper and tissue) are good quality. There is a kettle, coffee maker, refrigerator and microwave.  Hotel is set back from the road on a shaded lot.  New bath/shower unit with good shower head. TV has pretty good selection of channels.  Room is perhaps a little tired in appearance but who cares?  Friendly owner.  Only a small number of units. Much prefer over a standard Comfort Inn.

Good basic strip motel

My parents are snowbirds living in a retirement community just down the road from this motel.  Due to the COVID-19 outbreak they will need to quarantine upon their return.  So I went up to Goderich early and got their heat & hydro turned on as well as their grocery shopping done.  I needed to limit my exposure in their house so I stayed in this motel as it was just up the road.  I was in room # 1 and it was perfect for a solo traveler.  Super clean and well maintained.  The owner was very friendly too, despite the distancing rules.  
For the price and the cleanliness I give it 5 stars.  The baseboard heating is of course drying, but it heated up quickly and the fridge and microwave came in handy for my suppers while there.  I would absolutely recommend this motel for short stays.

Great place to stay !

We stayed in room number 5.  Some minor repairs need to be done.  The carpet was stained, the window was broken and duct taped, the bathroom door handle didn’t work properly and a lightbulb was blown in the bathroom.

The room was very spacious and the beds were comfortable.  The decor is outdated and needs to be modernized.  The tv is too small for the room.  The WiFi worked great this year!  I suspect it had to do with very little occupancy.  

The place is quiet and far enough off the highway where you don’t hear the traffic.  The grounds are always immaculate.  The horseshoe pits look like they haven’t been used in quite some time.

Overall, the place was comfortable and clean and I’d stay here again.

Comfortable and clean

We visited one night in September to see Goderich, go to the Blyth Theatre Festival and tour the Royal Homes factory in Wingham.  Great little motel:  very clean, beds were comfortable, bathrooms clean, we enjoyed sitting out front in the evening with no bugs and the highway noise wasn't bad. Quiet for sleeping.  Air conditioning worked great.   Simple breakfast place 1 minute down the highway across the road.  

Goderich:  Great location to pop into Goderich and visit the cute little downtown circle for shopping and an unusual circular walk; and the beautiful waterfront (I had no idea it was so beautiful - be sure to get to the Cove).   We strolled the partially shaded boardwalk, stuck our feet in the sand and checked out the view of the salt mines from the Lighthouse viewpoint park.

Blyth:  Dinner at the Cowbell Brewery wasn't the best food (it was good pub food), but the setting is what makes it.  20 minutes away.  Make a reservation.  They did a show at The Blyth Festival Theatre (May-September).  Cute little local theatre we enjoyed.

Wingham:  30 minutes away - Who know the tour of the Royal Homes factory would be so interesting.  Call them, apparently they do a public tour at 1:00 most days.  They also then have a design centre 5 minutes away to tour 3 of their houses.  They do multi-million dollar homes in Muskoka now, not just double wides anymore.  

We would come back to the area and stay at the Dunlop motel again. but do a sunset dinner at the Beach Street Station.

Great value for a little motel in a busy tourist area.  5 stars for a motel

Was at family reunion over weekend and had 2 rooms at this motel for 2 nights. Both rooms were very clean and well kept. 1 room had queen and double beds plus a pull out couch. TONS of space. Other room had queen and double bed but they were in separate room. Great idea !!!!
Motel has new owners since I last stayed there many years ago. Its on the high end for price in a rural area but I felt well worth it considering the space, cleanliness, friendly staff, etc.
Oh .. and we arrived late (just after 10pm), the motel knew we were coming in later and they were still open at the front desk when we pulled in.
Very pleasant stay .. and will stay again.

Spent 2 nights staying here

I don't write bad reviews often but this place is a dump. Rooms are outdated (carpet looks like it's from the 70's), very bad musty odour in the rooms. No amenities to speak of. The motel was completely booked during our stay - I'm not sure that it has the capacity to be filled. None of the showers worked in the morning (no water pressure - I mean zero) and toilets wouldn't flush.  I understand the place is old, however if you do not have the capacity to have working showers then don't over book. 

The worst part of this - not a single apology from the front desk when it was reported and no offer to have maintenance fix anything.

Keep on driving

My friend and I were attending a local blues event in town and booked for 2 nights. The rate was very reasonable and the room was very large. 
We had 2 queen beds, plus an extra sink, bar fridge, microwave and coffee maker in the main room. The bathroom was so clean you could eat out of the tub!! Fixtures and caulking and tile in mint condition. Looked like a brand-new tub surround. 
New carpet and large mirror over the sink in the "kitchen" area, plus vanity lights. That was great if two people were getting ready and both needed a mirror!!
Very well-kept, spacious grounds with gardens, horse-shoe pits and freshly painted asphalt and parking lines in the parking lot, plus a little gazebo with picnic tables and a bbq. 
The beds were firm and comfortable, the bedding in good shape (not faded or stained) and the pillows were very firm and dense, so if you like thin, soft pillows, you may want to bring your own. I happen to like very firm pillows.
The owner came to check on us 2x, inquiring if we needed any supplies and how did we like the room? He was very friendly and helpful and pleasant. 
We will certainly return to that motel any time I am visiting Goderich again!! I highly recommend it, even though it is a little north of town on highway 21, it is only a 5 min. drive into town.
