This motel was freezing, had a small, old space heater and was dirty (sheets, chairs, old smelly rug, bathroom tub was very stained and dirty as well).  Upon arrival, initially the staff were friendly and called their motel, “Bates Motel as the staff told me they recently found a life-sized silicone type doll in a room, left behind from a previous guest. The owner actually picked up the phone on March 17th around 1am as I was scared for my own personal safety.  I dialed “0” from my room and he (the owner, Gil) told me, “Come into my bed and I will keep you safe!”  The morning after the housekeeper all of a sudden became rude, loud and hostile towards me.  She actually called the Police on me.  I had a 1/2 to vacate this room (with a small, young shiz tsu) and a very small car or else I would be, “Arrested!”  I never was told anything about a reason for this, other than “You are disturbing our other, “Guests!”   This Motel was the worst Motel I’ve ever stayed in. A lot of scammers were staying there. I am a trusting, naive person so when another, “Guest” and her partner told me they needed some money but only had a Walmart gift card, I believed them and handed them $50. I discovered a few days later the card was empty.  A day or two later I went back to pick up 2 items I could not fit into my car (an expensive Rubbermaid stepping stool and a crate for my dog for travel purposes) and I was told I was not allowed on their property. I went across the street to a Tim Hortons where I was shocked to have 2 Police Officers knocking on my car window where they handed me an undated, handwritten letter advising me I was not allowed on Motel 401 Property. This Motel also operates the only cab company in the area (Hastings/Northumberland region) called A 1 taxi. Late May of this year, I needed a taxi around 1 AM, May 24 weekend and when the cab driver saw me sitting outside a Comfort Inn in Port Hope he said my name and took off, squealing his tires. I was left with a dog sitting outside a Tim Hortons where had several men offer me and my dog a drive home. I of course, declined and finally had a cab company from Peterborough that cost me $200 cash with the help from the Tim Hortons’ staff.

First of all, room was very clean, retro look, could be updated a bit.The Motel is near the highway 401 and is about an hour away from Pearson airport. Nice beach at the end of the road and plenty of restaurant all around which is nice.

And comfy bed.
Staff were friendly. I arrived before check in but they let me into my room.
They also provided me with inforamtion , to good local spots to eat, also said the beach is nice, but dew to recent rain and high water the beach wasn't at its best.

staff very helpful  & friendly.  large nice towels and good pillows.  had fridge & microwave all my necessities.  price very reasonable, super clean comfy & cozy.  easy to get to but rather hard to find.  very good basic older motel.  bring own tub drain stopper if you want a bath.  I will stay again & definitely recommend.

We checked in on Saturday afternoon and ended up being confined to our room because of the rain (we have a dog).   From start to finish, this motel exceeded our expectations.  The office was clean, the grounds are spotless and well cared for.  Our room was airy and bright and smelled nice.  The A/C worked better than any Motel I've ever stayed in.  The fridge, TV and microwave were new.  The room was large and clean.  The service was polite and efficient, from the phoned in reservation through the check in process.  I actually wish we had more occasion to visit Cobourg.  This Motel is the best value for money we've ever spent.   I'm super glad we passed on our first choice after reading Trip Advisor reviews on the Lotus Motel.
