Quality experience! The bed was very comfortable, although the cupboard lockers could do with new furnishing. I particularly loved the big kitchen - however during peak periods, it was quite stressful given the limited number of clean pots. I'd suggest getting more pots (the single handle ones) as there were a few unusable ones. 

The hostel is located some 30 min walk away from downtown, so I ended up walking instead of taking the shuttle as the shuttle departs hourly if you head out early in the morning and I always miss it. But it was a pleasant morning stroll along the road nevertheless. I also greatly appreciate that some of the public buses are "free" for hostel guests!

The staff were overall very friendly, although I encountered one female staff wth tattoos on both shins at the kitchen being unnecessarily aggressive clearing the unlabelled food and garbage/biodegradables area - she was opening and closing the fridge door very loudly too. The other hostel guests in the kitchen were also looking at her. Not sure what the source of her anger was but I felt it could have been better managed. 

Would definitely stay here again!

Quality experience!

This is my 6th season of skiing at Sunshine. The Hi Alpine Banff is always a nice place to stay and is an affordable price for accommodations in Banff. A big shout out to Jimmy, who now works in the office upstairs. He's looked after me over the years and makes this a special place to stay. You're the best Jimmy!

A great place to stay in Banff

Really friendly, helpful staff, clean rooms and facilities, large kitchen area, clean and tidy. A good games room with a bar too! They also give you free bus tickets to use in the town. Great stay! Thanks for a lovely time.

Great visit

I went on a solo trip and stayed here for 2 nights. As soon as I checked in, I could tell the vibe was just what I was looking for. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The visitors were a nice mix of solo travellers, couples, small groups of friends and also some families. I tried the fish and chips from the restaurant and it was really good and decently priced. The basement bar was nice and lively, met a lot of the staff there and the visitors staying at the hostel. They serve free pancakes and coffee every morning! Kayleigh did an amazing job prepping/serving the pancakes and providing the best customer service during my trip! The rooms/beds were good for what you pay for, and the individual lockers were spacious and had a nice layout. One of the best parts of this hostel was the views surrounding the building and it was away from the town, which made it nice and quiet. Also, the hostel provides free local bus passes during your stay! I will definitely come back and I highly recommend staying here.

We really like our stay a the HI Banff. The rooms are great and clean. It's easy to meet people and have a great time. The kitchen is very pratical and we really enjoyed the living room with the fireplace ;)

Just popped in for food and drink as was staying across the road. Service in the bar quick and friendly and very good price for banff. brought drink upstairs for food. tasty and cheapish. service slow but they are busy.
would recomend if your in the area as a very good choice

Food and Drink

The facilities are great and is amidst the nature, a little on the outside of banff town. The cafe serves great food, loved it.
I wish the bed had a curtain for some privacy. You would have to take a bus from banff which isnt too frequent, so commuting to the hostel can be a little painful.

Good staff, Great cafe, good location, but a bit pricey!

This is probably one of the best hostels I've stayed at. The location is brilliant - it's slightly outside of downtown but you can walk there in around 20 minutes or get the bus which is right outside of the hostel and it takes you there within 5 minutes (you also get a free bus pass from the hostel). Once downtown you can shop for groceries, get drinks or food or walk to nearby hikes or get the bus to lake louise. The hostel itself is clean and the staff were friendly and answered all of our questions. The cafe and bar had great deals and the food was tasty. The views from the patio were lovely. The rooms were basic but clean, however I would say that curtains on the beds would be a great bonus. The bathrooms were also clean although there were only two showers on each floor. 

I would definitely stay here again. 

One of the best hostels I have stayed at.

Stayed in a private room in the main building my first night as I wasn’t able to book a cabin for 3 nights. The main building is like a university dorm. You hear every footstep, hallway conversation and toilet flush. Didn’t get much sleep. Kitchen is crowded and small.

Cabin 2 is at the end of the property. Private and quiet. Comes with fireplace, tv and modern bathroom. Decor is a bit dated but the price is right!

Cabin renters use the kitchen in the Mary Belle building. Bright, clean and spacious.
I had a rental car so free parking at the hostel and there is free all day parking at the railway station in town. IGA grocery store is on your return to the parking lot.

Stayed here while on a group hiking trip. It's a hostel and if that's what you're expecting, you will be satisfied. We were in the main building. We had a room with 4 bunks for 3 of us, so the little bit of extra room was helpful. Good storage lockers. Beds were comfortable enough.  Public facilities were decent. Good kitchen area, well stocked. Easy enough to catch a bus into town or walk, if you don't mind a good walk (uphill from town).
