We stayed at campsite #1 for 3 happy days with 2 dogs, one small and one medium. The McIvers were very helpful, as well as flexible and accommodating. The facilities were clean and accessible and the water delicious.  We enjoyed our site, the river across the road and the town. Tyler and Wayne were both lovely and helped us make the most of our time in Blind River. My unreserved endorsement goes with this review.

Camping at McIvers

We had booked a room at Maciver's Motel and we let the owner know that we would be arriving late after a long difficult (but beatiful) drive. There was nothing else on the road at night. When we called to get directions the person who answered with a slurred voice told us the room had been given to someone else. He said he tried to call, and he must know that cell service in the territory is terrible. But I didn't get the call and he gave our room away. THE WORST thing someone at this kind of place can do. NOT DEPENDABLE. SHADY. It sounded like a party was going on.

Did not keep reservation - Left out in the cold

This is a vintage motel (70+ years) set in lovely wooded grounds. While it fronts onto the highway my room, which was at the back, was lovely and quiet. The room was comfortable, clean and reasonably spacious with a good bed. There was a small fridge as well as satellite TV.

Comfortable Stay on Hwy 17.

We were on a five day road trip with our Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever visiting Ontario's near North.   We stayed at MacIver's the first night of our trip.  We were more than pleasantly surprised.  The motel is beautifully situated just outside of Blind River in extensive grounds which include cabins and camping facilities.  We chose a back facing motel room.  The room was clean, freshly painted with fluffy pillows on the bed and clean white towels.  We were able to eat our take out dinner at a picnic table outside our room.  Knowing this is only a 2-star motel it more than met our expectations.  The owners clearly take pride in this property.

travel from west cost to east canada n usa with dog. N first time a motel resort hotel camp ground inn has been so rude as a customer  im insulted  by this persons Rudeness  toward me as a renter its  not good at all he was not a kind person id advadvise others to call before u book a room “pet friendly“ they r not!,,, n that person on the phone was not kind at all

Not pet friendly they charge which dogs are allowed and are very rude not nice kind people

Old dated and dirty. Tv remotes had dust and hair on them. Whole room needs repairs. Bathroom floor was spongy and sloped. No air conditioning and unfortunately on the highway so loud traffic noise with windows open. Owner is a nice man. 

Not good

Staff is really great and helpful.  They have excellent knowledge of the area and willing shared it with us.  There are great trails and some good restaurants near the motel.  Again the staff gave us their opinions on their best places to eat.  We stayed for five days and enjoyed everything we did.

Clean and well maintained. Not much to do in town, but close to lakes and hiking trails. RV sites were well spaced and had elec, sewer, and water. Very reasonable rates. We stayed three nites in a Motor Home.

Short stay in a motor home

Travelling with son, daughter-in-law, their three children (2 toddlers and a newborn), daughter-in-law’s father and this Farmor (Father’s mother or grandmother in Norwegian) we only travel a max of about a 4.5 hour trip. That works out to be more like 11 hours with the frequent stops for the children to get out and run. Daughter-in-law booked the motels ahead of leaving for our trip. When we arrived at MacIver’s Motel & Campground, the place seemed to be quite old. As the owner stated, MacIver’s is Retro. No AC but yes! Wifi! Rooms are not huge but they are clean. Power is not fabulous(unplug the wee fridge if boiling a kettle of water!) but the room I was in had three windows, a screen storm door and a beautiful working ceiling fan! With all windows open, and the windows on the storm door and the ceiling fan going it was lovely and cool in the room overnight. TV is good with a fair bit of choice, modern (not retro), colour and clear. The owner loaned me a water kettle and provided a ceramic cup for the tea to be made in. The fridge worked well, my freezer packs are mostly frozen this morning and all our perishables are cold and fresh! The beds are comfy and the blanket and bedspread were more than enough (in fact with the warm weather too much for me!). The cost was $ 85 with the tax and if you need a place to stay in a pinch the owner is a nice friendly smiley guy (yep MacIver - you got it!) and very accommodating. I usually would pay more to stay in a brand location but this did okay. There was one negative outside of no AC...in the morning I found three creepy crawly bugs in my cooler bag I had left open. The daughter-in-law’s father found one in the shorts he had hung to dry on the back of the bathroom door after he had rinsed off some mark left by toddlers. They were long and dark brown and scurried away when they were dumped out of the cooler bag and out of his shorts but I am not a fan of any bugs in a motel. Think they were not dangerous or biting types, they seemed to be drawn to moisture but still. Mr. MacIver, please do check into the big thing. And thank you for your fine help on check in, and with needs! 

Retro and Nice

After a long day of meetings and needing to get out of the city I found myself on highway 17 at 10 PM looking for a room for the night. The owner was very welcoming and got me set up for the night. This is another of those quaint country motels we don't have enough of. The rooms are smaller but for a short stay the room is perfect for the price. There is no air conditioner in the room but the windows open and there is a ceiling fan so I slept great on a comfortable bed. The room had wifi but I didn't ask about a password and read my book instead. If you expect a 5 star hotel for $75 you  wont be happy but if you're looking for a comfortable night this is a good choice.
