From the minute we booked our Canadian adventure, Carol, the owner of A la Maison d'Amitie started e-mailing us offering tips and asking if we had any food or accommodation preferences.  

Carol Fenstermaker is the most amazing host ever.

She guided us with perfect directions to her hidden gem and boy were we surprised.  The pictures we had seen online were nothing compared to the reality of Carol's piece of heaven.  

Our hosts were generous and friendly, the room was spacious and oh so comfortable, the bathroom and amenities were so clean, they cooked us a DELICIOUS breakfast before we departed, and the views. OH, DO NOT MISS THESE VIEWS.

If we ever make it back to Canada, we're headed straight for A la Maison d'Amitie!

A la Maison d'Amitie...oh...my...god. This B&B is heaven.

The Village of Mavillette wraps around a stunning sand beach in Cape Saint Mary on the Acadian Shore in Western Nova Scotia.  We had visited the area a few times before but this time we decided to stay at a local B&B in the Village and do some exploring. We made reservations at A la Maison d'Amitie.  Where do I begin...the house sits on 16 acres of spectacular rugged cliffs overlooking the Atlantic. Our comfy room faced west so we had amazing sunsets over the ocean. Our hosts, Carol and Paul, prepared delicious breakfasts of homemade cakes, pancakes, french toast, fruit, preserves...oh my!  In the morning, Carol would share her knowledge of places to see and things to do and when we returned in the evenings, we would sit with Carol over tea and chat until bed time.  Such a soul-satisfying holiday!  Thank you Carol & Paul. ..till we meet again!!

Marvellous Mavillette!

Absolutely beautiful home in a gorgeous location! Excellent beds and immaculately clean. Carol is a complete sweetheart! She wrapped my mom and I in blankets in Adirondack chairs to watch the sunset on the deck. The breakfast was amazing blueberry pancakes with your choice of 7 kinds of homemade syrup. I highly recommend the wild blueberry! On our walk along the bluffs the next morning, we saw adorable fat little seals lounging on the seaweed covered rocks down below at low tide. Amazing! We didn’t want to leave!

Stunning views!

If you don't mind arriving at your b&b after a long day and being greeting with "take off your shoes" /  "use these boots and socks" (none in our sizes) and totally being ignored about what you eat (bacon and eggs will do--can't do citrus,  don't eat grains--but a full glass of OJ greeted us in the am along with toast etc), and having to walk through the kitchen to get from patio to room while the hostess is cooking dinner, and the NRA hat sported by the host--then this is the place for you. Oh--and it was the only place that did not have linen sheets (some type of fake flannel) and did have a 1970s decor in our whole month in Nova Scotia. Clean. yes. And the view is great.

We only had one night in the area  and I am so thankful this is where we stayed. 
Carol and Paul are welcoming hosts. Carol was full of suggestions and extremely accommodating!  She called ahead and got us a table at an exceptional restaurant. We hiked at the light house and walked the beautiful beach. But oh my the sunset and sunrise... we have traveled the globe and have never seen anything like this. 
Wish we had more time there. 


What a view 

I booked this on a hotel booking site and the owner called me to say the room I had booked was not available. She said she'd upgrade me at no extra charge and told me to cancel my booking and she'd send me new reservation. She emailed me my new receipt, however, receipt said I'd have to pay cash only for the room. When we arrived after looking for the place forever we decided not to stay. The house does have a beautiful view, but is very dated and there's absolutely nothing to do there. The t.v. was an old tiny t.v. we were told didn't really get any channels. I think the owners may be scamming the hotel web site so they don't have to pay a booking fee, and possibly the government, probably why you have to pay cash. Place is for sale and probably why it's run down.

In the middle if nowhere

What an amazing place to stay here in Mavilette area and enjoy this unique experience!! 
We booked this place for 2 nights during our vacation and use it as a base to visit the west cost of Nova Scotia..
Waze couldn't find the address so we followed the instructions on the website (but now we add it to google maps), we drove at 9pm, completely dark and start taking this dirt road surrounded by complete dark... Carol was waiting for us and showed us to our room. The house is amazing and the room very clean and comfortable.
The next morning, we were mesmerized by the view and the care that carol and her partner put in to serve us amazing food! The cliff is breathtaking and Carol directed us to an excellent walk around it.. 
At night, sitting in the backyard and enjoying the sunset was lovely and the pics speaks by itself!

A must if you’re in the area

My husband and I stayed in the sunrise suite, and loved it. We were the first guests of the season this year, and had the B&B to ourselves. Our room was spacious, carefully decorated and had everything we needed. Including a comfortable bed. The ocean could be seen from an angle out the window. If you'd like direct ocean view from your bed, you'd better opt for the sunset suite, it is smaller in size, but you'll get the breathtaking view.

Since we were the first guests of the season, the house needed some dusting, but I bet Carol will come to that very soon. 

We arrived late, on the CAT from Maine, and I had told Carol via e-mail that she were to go to bed, and needn't wait up for us. We arrived at about 10.30 PM, to a cute welcoming note that told us what we needed to know and kindly asked us to lock the door behind us. Loved it!

The next morning, at the time we had agreed upon, we came down for breakfast. This nice elderly lady welcomed us with bear hugs. I've recently lost my dear grandmother, and loved to be welcomed like this. So heartwarming and sincere. 

She had prepared a two course meal for us, with a cake, homemade cinnamon and raisin bread, fruits and jams. Together with the views of the cliffs and ocean, there little wild rabbits outside and the nice company of the innkeeper, it was one of the best breakfasts we've ever had. 

We took a short walk along the cliffs before we sadly had to go, but I feel we got the most out of our short stay. 

Carol is selling the place, and the asking price is nothing short of a bargain, if you ask me. If I could I would've bought it myself.
