Glendenning Hall is a well-kept student residence situated about 1 km from the Confederation Landing. The downtown area is therefore easily accessible on foot. Free parking just across the street and free continental breakfast (breads & cereals) at 7 a.m. every day, and access to the laundry room makes this a good choice any visitors.

The young man at the desk was polite and welcoming; he told us all we needed to know and answered any questions promptly. Our room was actually a small apartment of 2 small bedrooms (each with a large bed/bureau/desk/tv), a standard bathroom (with basic toiletries and towels) and a kitchen (with fridge, microwave, stove). If you wish to cook, you can borrow utensils at the front desk. Everything was simple but clean. 

This was no fancy place but it proved quite adequate for visiting Charlottetown. Of course, rooms are not overly spacious and the furniture is very basic but we had plenty of space for our needs and the bed was comfortable enough. The laundry room down the hall was also quite appreciated. No complaints!


Decent student residences

Hotels in downtown Charlottetown are pretty expensive in the summer and many charge extra for parking.  We stayed ah the Glendenning residence hall for three nights.  We had  a one bedroom apartment. They layout was great for us.  The bed was comfortable, the apartment was clean.  The apartment is quite dated.  It is not attractive at all but the cleanliness and good value made up for it.  A basic breakfast is included in the rate as is parking across the street.  The staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful.  I had anticipated maybe young college students staying at the hall but there were people of all ages--families with young children, retired people, etc. The location was pretty good--we could walk to all of the sights in downtown Charlottetown.  It was rather warm while we were there and the window unit air conditioner was great to have but was a little weak yet it cooled enough for us to be comfortable.  We did have a large number of ants in the apartment --mainly in the kitchen and bathroom. When I talked to the staff they provided additional ant traps.  

Very good value for downtown Charlottetown

I was hesitant about a student dorm, as I have had less than great experiences with other universities, such as no AC in summer, thin curtains,  noisy students who were staying there etc. But for the price difference between this and the expensive hotels in town we took a chance, and we were very happy with our apartment. We had stayed at the Rodd Charlottetown in the past, and we liked the historic character of the hotel, but the prices there for the tiny rooms, at over $300 a night for some of the dates we looked at, were getting too high. For the great rates we got at Glendenning, we could stay more nights for much less money, and spend the money we saved at restaurants. Hotels in Charlottetown in the summer can be extremely expensive for even modest little motels, so this is a bargain. We had a two bedroom apartment, each room with double bed. There are window air conditioners in the bedrooms, and individual cable TV with remotes in each room. A small kitchen where we could keep cold drinks and a microwave and stove, not that we wanted to cook, with several good restaurants in town. Our room was very clean, and with better quality towels and bedding than I expected in a student residence. Congrats to the cleaning crew here for making the rooms spotless. The bizarre colour scheme of rosy pink walls with moss green trim left a lot to be desired (please lose the Pink when you repaint the rooms, management!) but for the great price. we could live with unappealing wall colours. There were a few patches on the bathroom door and a few places on the walls that clearly needed repainting. But that is really the only quibble. We had rainy weather for several days, which meant no beach, so it was at least nice to have a spacious apartment to relax in rather than a tiny hotel room. We had requested a quiet room and Kyle kindly gave us a room at the far end of the hall, so we did not have neighbours who might have made noise. But the guests we saw were mostly seniors or parents with small kids, so we were glad it was unlikely there were going to be noisy parties while we stayed. We slept well each night. There is free parking across the street, and the centre of town is an easy walk, about five blocks. There is a free breakfast. Just toast, bagels, yogurt, instant oatmeal and sometimes some oranges, but no eggs or hot dishes or fresh fruit. But for this price, you can't complain. I just wish they served it on real plates instead of paper and plastic utensils. Would make a big difference to reduce all the garbage that must add up each day. Surely the college could buy a dishwasher to wash plates and glasses? Would also recommend requesting a room NOT facing Grafton street, as the section of the street the college faces is ugly, with parking lots, a car wash and a view of big Irving smoke stacks. Rooms facing the side or back would have nicer views. But we didn't spend a lot of time looking out the window, anyway. Booking here also includes free use of the college gym next door. Not a great gym, very small, but better than nothing if you want to use a treadmill or lift weights. A great bonus are laundry rooms on each floor, so we could wash our clothes before we continued back to Halifax for the trip home. We would definitely stay here again. Front desk staff was friendly and helpful.

Excellent Stay

I spend a night here while touring the island. It reminds me of being in a college dorm, mostly because that's what it is. The floors were vinyl tile, finishes were dated but functional, bedding and furnishings were simple. The space was clean you could eat in the common room or in your room. There are common rooms on every floor with some games and bigger tables to allow for socializing away from the kitchen area of the suites or bedrooms. 

Back to School

Glendenning Hall, a college residence during the academic term, is very conveniently located within walking distance of most of Charlottetown proper.  The rooms are basic, ours was clean and a breakfast is provided. Our room also had a kitchen which could be helpful.

Great staff. Adequate coffee - always available. Walking distances to restaurants and quaint shops. Nice rooms. Good central location for a weeks stay. So much to do in PEI - and this is our second time using the dorm. We also like being able to use the gym.

Still one of our favourite places to stay

In a word "Wow". My wife certainly expect this type of accomodation. The staff were young, enthusiastic which made for a great welcome. The room was a shocker to us. It had two rooms with cable tv, alarm clock, desk for computer, usual bathroom, and a complete kitchen! Stove, full fridge, microwave, utensils, etc. I know your supposed to visit the local restaurants but for that light snack (hot dog, sandwich) in your room with an ice cold beverage made our day. Free Parking across the street.

Exceptional Accommodations for Low Budget Travellers

I spent one night at Glendenning Hall during my visit to PEI.  I got a 2-bedroom college suite which was more than enough space for me.  The unit was clean and comfortable.  Didn't have to use the AC but it was a small window unit.  The TV was quite tiny but no big problem.  The breakfast wasn't appealing to me. But, I'd be happy to stay here again.
