This is one of the best B&B's that we have ever stayed in. It's a Heritage / Character home that shows pride of ownership.

The rooms and suites are spotlessly clean, the beds are very comfortable. The hosts are friendly, helpful and informative of the local area.

If you are visiting the Basilica in Beaupre (just a few minutes down the road) this charming B&B is "The Place" to stay.

The breakfast choice is excellent, the quality of the food and presentation on the plate is exceptional, be sure to try the smoked salmon omelette, that alone would bring us back here whenever we are in the region.


Pride of ownership...

Auberge du Sault-à-la-Puce is a one-of-a-kind place to stay when visiting Québec. It is located in the town of Château Richer on route 138, a very easy 15-20 drive into Québec City. 
It was one of the loveliest places we've ever stayed in! Marie T. gave us a very warm welcome upon arrival. We had originally booked a regular double room, but as we were staying six nights, Marie T. generously thought to offer us the much larger studio for a very reasonable extra fee for the week. The studio had a comfortable sitting room with a futon couch, a table and chairs, a small fridge and microwave, a large bathroom with a huge spa tub (which we did use!), and a private entrance. The bed was very comfortable and the room so quiet.
The interior of the auberge is filled with lots of art and antiques and is very warm and welcoming. The breakfast that comes with the room is taken in the lovely front room. We had a window table with a view of the river Sault-à-la-Puce. (There are a couple of Adirondack chairs next to the river where you can sit and enjoy the peacefulness with a glass of wine or a beer!).
Then breakfast itself is a wonder to behold and eat! Fresh croissant, pain au chocolat, baguette, with homemade confitures and butter, choice of orange or grapefruit juice, fresh cut fruit, and café au lait. And the omelettes! Brie/asparagus or ratatouille or smoked salmon. It was evident to us that the food was being prepared by a professional chef, and sure enough we learned that Michel was a Lyonnais chef. We were also happy to have dined "à la table d'hôte" one evening...a wonderful four course meal (Nota bene: it is BYOB). 
In addition to all this, Marie T. gave us suggestions on various cheese farms to visit, and other local food producers to visit. She even loaned me a book to read on Château Richer's history.
We loved our first visit to Québec and it was made all the more memorable for having stayed at Auberge du Sault-à-la-Puce! If we ever go back to Québec (and I hope we do!), we will stay at the auberge. Un grand merci à vous Marie T. et Michel pour tout votre accueil sympathique et l'ambience chaleureux. By far the best place we have ever stayed.  We reserved a king room which was lovely, but Marie gave us the choice of the apartment with the whirlpool tub that was very private and had its own entrance.  We stayed  3 nights and had dinner there 2 of the 3.  It was amazing.  Chef Michel is an excellent chef and both meals were just fabulous with lovely music and an art filled room.  Marie served us beautifully.  She has the gift of making you feel like you are her only customers. Chateaux Richer is only 15-20 min from Quebec City, close to the falls and in a lovely little community.  Do not hesitate to stay here, the pictures do not prepare you for the warmth of this century old home and it's proprietors. 

An anniversary to remember!

Stayed with 2 friends and a small dog. Friendly and really pleasant place and staff, beautiful house and cozy rooms. Breakfast was generous and delicious with homemade jams. Recommending warmly and returning myself there for sure!

Very cute and friendly

If I could give the Auberge du Sault-à-la-Puce a sixth star, I would. This is simply the most cozy and welcoming place I have ever stayed at. We occupied two rooms during five days over Christmas, and were blown away by Marie-T’s and Michel’s warm hospitality.

To have a special place to gather as a family, we booked the « Loft », a wonderful large wood clad room with a jacuzzi, a fire place and a huge, very comfortable bed; a perfect place to read our books and lounge after exploring the region in -20C to -23C temperatures (not including the wind chill factor!). This room came with bath robes, toiletries, coffee and tea making facilities, a big tv and even a fridge; really anything one could hope for! And as if that was not enough, it also has windows with nice views on three sides. The second room was considerably smaller but very welcoming too.

The common rooms of the auberge are all very tastefully decorated. The moment we stepped into the building we felt good. Breakfasts were outstanding, with warm viennoiseries and baguette, homemade jams and delicious French omelettes (salmon, ratatouille, asparagus ...) or blueberry pancakes as well as plenty of fresh fruit. We were also lucky to be cooked for by Michel most evenings: outstanding gourmet meals at an incredible price!

There are other restaurants in the area, but I doubt there are many places in Quebec that offer the same quality of food.

As to the area, there are possible walks directly from and near the Auberge, but we mostly explored Mont Saint Anne (snow shoeing trails, skiing etc.), nearby Quebec City and the Montmorency Falls. Hopefully we’ll be back to see the Île d’Orléans and other places we missed.

Our heartfelt thanks to Marie-T and Michel for making our Christmas so beautiful and memorable! We sincerely hope to be back some day!

Outstanding hospitality

From Marie-T's warm greeting at our arrival to the moment we left, our weekend at the Auberge was wonderful.  Our room (The Studio) was comfortable and clean, and included a separate living room, mini fridge, massive bathroom with whirlpool, and even a private entryway.  (Parking right outside made moving our luggage easy.)
Michel and Marie-T's breakfasts were super delicious.  Marie spent some time chatting with us and giving us local recommendations - including making a dinner reservation at another nearby Auberge that was beyond wonderful, the Baker House.
Local artists have done renderings of this beautiful property and they're available next door.  The front porch was my favorite part, perhaps tied with the soothing sounds of the small river next to the house, and it's interesting backstory.
Overall great weekend getaway, and a perfect soft spot to land right between Quebec City and Baie-St-Paul, which both offer lots to do and see, and are perfect for walking around and exploring.
