We stayed one night at the Happy Motel on our way home from our Maritime vacation. Check in was easy and the young lady and her friend who checked us in was polite and professional. We didn't have hot water for our shower in the morning but the room was clean and had everything you would desire for a quiet night.

Nice place to stay!

I book music and comedy acts in town and for over 10 years and I have used this hotel for them to stay in. The main reasons for this is because it's near the venues and we were getting a good rate as frequent customers.

During the pandemic I have not been able to book shows. When we were finally able to do so I called to reserve a room. My first turn off is when the person who answered me said he didn't speak French in a city where 98% of the people do. I asked to make a reservation and the price he quoted was almost $100 more than what I would normally pay. I asked to speak to Pit the owner, only to be told that he sold it off and the person I was talking to is the new owner, who is from out of town and doesn't know anyone.

I explained the arrangement we had with the previous owner. He said he could not honor the previous price, I understand inflation but the price was almost 75% more. He quoted me a different rate which was a little more reasonable so I accepted and he said he would give me deals in the future as well. He also insisted on me providing him a credit card number to confirm the reservation, something the previous owner NEVER did before. I only gave in because he would not accept the reservation otherwise. Up until that point I had a sour taste in my mouth, but I was willing a to build a trusting relationship with him.

On the day of the booking the artist comes up to me saying he had to pay full price. So I went there and spoke to the owner. He denied ever giving me the rate that he had quoted me weeks earlier. He claims he had written it down, but conveniently couldn't find it when I asked him to show me.

I once again explained that it would be in his best interest to provide a deal like the previous owner did, as I book shows all year and he will profit from it. He outright refused. I explained to him that he is not the only game in town, the previous owner was a nice man who we wanted to support, but if he wanted the same loyalty he would have to do the same in return. 

He kept saying he couldn't offer a better deal, then later said he would do so for future bookings, so contradicting himself again. 

I told him that keeping his original word would show good intentions to work with me. He is from out of town and not originally from Canada. He probably moved here after saving his money in a larger Canadian city and searched for an opportunity to be a business owner. He had a great opportunity to built a rapport with local townsmen to ensure that the Motel's reputation remains positive.

I kindly asked him three times to honor the original agreement, otherwise I will be taking my business elsewhere. When I asked him a final time I clearly stated to him that if he refuses again then he will lose my business, my trust and future referrals. Not to mention good local word of mouth which is important for a new owner.  He still refused so I left telling him I would never use his hotel ever again to book artists. He didn't seem to be phased by it.

He doesn't seem to grasp that he has a small two star hotel and his prices are now the same as the other big hotels in town. Why would anyone want to stay there now that his prices are not as competitive as big chain hotels? I use to see the "No Vacancy" sign often but to be honest, I haven't seen the "No" sign appear since last summer.

Since then I have booked over 10 different shows and they have been staying elsewhere. It's his lost and he had every opportunity to make things right but he blew it!

This is not the same Happy Hotel you know and love

This is our second time here and our experience was not as good. We got a tiny room with barely any space to open our luggage without tripping over it at night. The room was cleaned ok until we openend the light and say stains on it. Also, there was dust on the electrical plug. The room is outdated and the bathroom was tiny. But for one night, it’s fine. Also, the location is good

Large queen size room but poor lighting. Good amenities but no coffee maker or facial tissues. Receptionist was helpful. Would stay here again. Close to park, International Border & Tim Hortons. Reasonable price. Several restaurants within 15 mins walking distance.

Stayed overnight during trip home.

After paying it took looking at three rooms, one smelled of smoke the other was a long flight of stairs and walk to carry luggage to a very small room but the 3rd room located on the back side suited our needs for a night. Told it was more expensive but she gave it to us for same price.  Two double beds, clean and comfortable for a couple hours sleep.

Just OK

Free secure parking right outside our room, 3 rooms in suite, basic but very clean and neat.  AC worked really well and kept us cool all right.  No free breakfast, but no problem.  Restaurant within 5 minutes drive.  On a busy road, but heard no noise.   Great value.

Second overnight stop on July road trip

Ideally located, Happy Motel suited my needs for one night, it was spotlessly clean and about as comfortable as I would expect for a motel. The staff are FANTASTIC, a special thanks to Johanne who’s kindness made my stay extra special. 

Convenient and clean

Booked room on Expedia as I was traveling from Ontario to the East Coast.  Check on was quick and pleasant.  Room are small but do the job. It was a bit noisy throughout the night as other guests (perhaps long term ? ) were coming in and out until around 2 am.   Ion was VERY clean , beds were comfortable and very clean. The shower is teeny tiny but gets the job done.  Would stay again if in the area 

Clean and cozy

There are motels that boast a lot of things. This hotel is small, cheap and old. It still has several qualities that others don't. The staff is very hospitable, the room is very clean, and we were able to spend a very quiet night even though the motel was full. What I think is another advantage is the proximity of several activities such as a few restaurants, a microbrewery, a pharmacy, a park to relax and all that.

Well, close to everything and clean!

My boyfriend and I chose this hotel to stay for five hours (we were going to Fundy) We loved the reception. The room was very clean. It was located near a gas station, a Jean-Coutu and a Tim Horton. Very good quality price, decoration in old age, but it's well maintained. I recommend this hotel.
