A gem of a hotel not far off the main highway. It’s an older roadside motel, but lots of space, grounds well maintained, a gazebo, fantastic view, and quiet and peaceful. The room was clean and  had a fridge and a microwave. Roger, the owner, is very knowledgeable, nice, and has lots of great stories. When I booked, on the phone, he gave us perfect instructions on how to drive to the motel. He told us some interesting stories about the area, what we could find, and about some of the “collections” inside the office. If you are looking for a place to stay, and don’t mind driving a few minutes off the main highways, this place is worth checking out. Great price too!

Really good motel. Not to far for our business job. Motel is really in good shape, no carpet.  Smell really good and clean place.  New cover bed and good sheets and pillows. And the most thing the bed is so good to sleep.  I want to know where they buy it   Thanks to the owners they are so great and friendly.  Johanne and Dan

Really good motel

We could not have asked for a more relaxing,beautiful place to stay  while we were waiting for our furniture to be delivered to our new house. We had been so stressed moving, and the owners made us feel so welcomed, and couldn't do enough to make our stay enjoyable. It is a beautiful location. The motel is older, but in great shape. They even have housekeeping, units that are 2 storey. The view is fabulous, and so are the owners. Plan on visiting again.

We really enjoyed this special little place on the river

We stayed here in a two double room for a night.  The room was simple and clean, the wifi worked well, and the view was great.  A little dated but good value, the minigolf advertised appears to be gone, but it looks like something is being built.

Simple and clean

This motel was booked for us by the promoters of a bluegrass festival where our group was booked. I checked some of the prior reviews and was a little concerned about the accommodations provided by the festival. As it turned out, there was absolutely no need for concern. The rooms were clean, the beds were comfortable, the view and grounds were great (a gorgeous screened gazebo to have coffee or practice new material) and the owners could not have been any nicer. I do not believe you could find a better motel for anywhere close to the rates for this room.  

Great place, comfortable, inexpensive, clean and friendly owners

We got there and as soon as we saw the room we decided to leave. The door couldn't be locked. The pictures from Booking.com are very deceiving. Trashy place. For almost the same amount of money we found a way better place 10 minutes away. Shame.

Came and left immediately

The owners at the Johnsontown Motel are very friendly and extremely helpful.  The grounds are beautiful as is the area.  The motel is older but clean and has everything you need.  If you're on a budget, have a pet and want a nice, relaxing place to stay, this is it!

Great overnight stay for a great price.

Planned an overnight stay at the Johnstown Motel while on a recent road trip to Montreal. The motel is a great example of old-style, roadside lodging, and you can imagine people filling the place up in the 60's or 70's (or before) on family vacations, etc.. Rooms are inexpensive and basic, furnishing are older, but everything appeared totally clean (cleanest I've seen in this style of place) and we slept well. Location is really nice, with a large grassy area looking out over and going down to the St. Lawrence. Perfect for a barbecue or roasting marshmallows at night. Owner was a nice older gentleman who could probably tell you everything and more about what to do in the area.

The downside of our stay was that the website for the hotel mentions a pool, minigolf, and a dairy barn, and we booked in advance thinking these would be great for our five year old. Unfortunately, while these were in evidence, they have long since been put out of service and were in a serious state of disrepair. This caused a fair bit of consternation on arrival...

That said, it was nice to wake up in the morning and see the river, so it wasn't entirely a bad stay.

Clean, cheap, but misleading description and website

Decided to stay here based on the good reviews. It was not a good choice. Reviews are not honest about the condition of this motel. The room was very small and appeared to be clean (did not "feel" clean). It did not have a working fan or a/c and we were not able to stay the night in the July heat. Motel is in a very nice location but is very run down and not even close to what the pictures show. Not recommended but there is not much to choose from in this area for a motel. Would need to stay in Brockville or Cornwall to get a name brand and comfortable room. I've stayed in old style motels that were good... this is not one of them.

Run down old motel

If you are on a budget and looking for a clean place for a night, Johns Motel is for you. Very recently on my way back from Ottawa, I stayed there with my family. 
The lady at the reception was friendly and checked us in pretty quick. There was a TV in the room but it somehow, lost power in the night. We were not really watching it so did not bother complaining for it. Beds were comfortable and room was clean. We had a calm and comfortable stay there for a half the money otherwise we would have spent. 
Keep it in mind that the closest Tim Hortons we found was in Prescott, that is about 6kms.
