We stayed at Le Grand on a bike tour of the Gaspésie and Côte Nord. There weren’t many options in Baie Comeau and we picked Le Grand even though it was a bit more expensive than other options because it had a restaurant. I received a confirmation email with a “total” price. Turns out the “total” did not include the tax but didn’t state that anywhere (all other places we stayed did). This brought the real cost of our night there to be much higher than our other options and I certainly would have chosen one of them had I known. The restaurant was closed, even though it was Sunday of a 3-day holiday weekend. The web site stated it was open every day. The staff was completely indifferent and unfriendly. The room was large but tired; the furniture was old and the chair sagged notably. If we ever return to Baie Comeau, we will stay elsewhere.

We had a king bed in an upscale room ($300 CND/night). While the room was lovely, the service was not in keeping with this price which made our stay much less enjoyable. The shower had a temperature guage that was stuck and would deliver only very cold or very hot water (too hot to shower). We spoke to the two different receptionists and one housekeeper. No one could help us or refer us to someone who could. No repair person was offered. No one would even come to the room to at least see if we were using the shower guage incorrectly as no one seemed to know anything about the shower. If this is the level of service, I would suggest the price be reduced. We have had much better service and an equally comforatble room at a Best Western for half this price. 

Service not in keeping with the price

Ok hotel for the night.  Beautifully restored old hotel has the advantages and disadvantages of an old hotel.  It has a slight old smell to it, the windows don’t really open, the bathroom is small.  The wood panelling is beautiful as is the staircase.  The rooms are a descent size and very clean.  The wifi is good.  Did not try the restaurant.  The hotel is situated in the older part of town and is close to the water.  Nice microbrasserie and café across the street.

Nice for the night.

This was my second visit to this hotel. The first time, the room with a charming floor was perfect. The decor of the entrance is inviting. The wall paintings in the entrance are also appreciated. That's why I went back there. This time I had a smaller but charming room at first glance. However, the smell of the place is very disturbing. The hallway smells bad. In the room, a smell between detergent and moisture was very pronounced and persisted despite the window being open. This smell persisted on my clothes after I left. The Internet was so weak that it was not possible to connect me to it in a prolonged and efficient way. This is unacceptable for a hotel. Today, the main location in the city center is a nice smell, but it may be necessary to walk around a large, microbescentre, and a nice smell in the house.

Unfortunately, our stay was not stellar.  When I booked, I did not realize this hotel did not have an elevator. I have since reviewed their site and could not find any mention of lack of elevator. I did read that a recent facelift allowed many modern conveniences to be added.  Seriously? I have knee issues, and my husband has a bad back, so carrying suitcases up two (2) flights of stairs was a challenge.

We asked for another room only to be told that they were fully booked.  Our room was on the third floor overlooking the so called parking lot.  Additionally, the front desk clerk was less than helpful, she mentioned that she was waiting for a large tour bus to arrive so perhaps that was her focus rather than helping the guests in front of her.

Although our room was clean, it smelled musty so we opened the windows to let in some fresh air.  The room was quite large, with two double beds, a work station and a bar fridge.  The furniture was very worn, some even had holes but the TV worked. Their literature states that parking is available, but the area is set-up strangely and there are only about 10 spaces. We did not visit the pub, although I checked the menu and prices seemed to be on the high side.

On the positive side, the hotel is located in town and one can walk to the nearby park. 
 
Do I recommend staying here, categorically no.

Anything but Grand

Spider web, smell of closure, there were things left in the room that clearly belonged to someone! noisy hotel with bar, own freak, employees drugged, closed windows heard everything going on outside in the street and there's no parking reserved for the hotel.

He's more beautiful than he is!

There is a lot of noise if you open the window to sleep in the room on the side of the road 138. The air conditioner is in a room. The bathroom is in the second room. There is a refrigerator and 1 TV in each room.

Carpet to be changed

I read David Robitaille's opinion, I got my room but a gentleman came knocking on my door with the same room. I didn't have any rooms because the hotel was full. When I arrived the lady suggested that I pay immediately what I accepted. The next day another person who said that it is not in the hotel's policy to do this. You give me the bill to zero. In the evening I check my statement an additional charge is charged! When I say they are involved...

A little mixed up

Extremely disappointed with the service, at noon I was looking to book at this hotel online, there were only two suites at $250 left, although my company is paying the room back, I thought I'd give them a call to see if there was anything cheaper left anyway. The lady at the reception checks me out for a room at $149 with two beds, as I'm going to work is perfect, I just want a seat or sleep because all the hotels are full. To my lady at the reception (full of numbers) she fills me up with the papers, make sure my credit card is in the file, give me my motel room card... and then!

Reservation without room available

The room was clean, the bathroom was clean, the old room was clean, and the other disadvantage was the smell of cigarettes in the room, but not a smoker.
