Big Lake

This lodge is located conveniently close to Peggy's Cove and to a very good restaurant. Our check-in went well. The owner is a very welcoming young man and really encouraged us to have a room with a lake view. Our room was quiet, nice size and clean, however the bed was not comfortable. There was no T.V. and no telephone in our room There is a fairly large recreation room with a large TV, a pool table and several board games. There is also a large patio out front overlooking the lake. The owner is in the process of renovating the lodge. This lodge is similar to a motel. The continental breakfast included delicious homemade breads and pastries made by the owner.

Very close to Peggy's Cove

We stayed here for our first few days in Nova Scotia and quite enjoyed it.....and the views/sunsets over the lake are spectacular! Host was very welcoming and friendly.
Our room was comfortable, a good size, clean, and well organized. The bathroom was a bit cramped but functional. 
Our only issue was that our room was situated above the eating/games-room areas below and we could clearly hear the conversations and even the clanging of pool balls in the evening.
Breakfast was just OK in our opinion bcs the cooked options were primarily homemade sweet cakes & breads.
We were very pleased with the location of this lodge. It is a 30 min drive into the greater Halifax area, but the drive is so scenic that it flew by. And heading in the opposite direction, Peggy's Cove is maybe a 15 min.drive.
Overall staying here was a great start to our holiday.

Simple but adequate...and amazing views over the lake!

This lodge was a pleasant surprise. It looked grand on the website but when we drove around the corner to see the one split level building on what to me is more of a large pond than a lake, I was disappointed. At first. It may seem humble at first glance, but the innkeepers have created a lovely, elegant retreat in a very peaceful setting. The lodge is filled with little touches, like local wildflowers in the room and a European style breakfast very different from anything I've ever had, but wonderful. There is a path up to a high point behind the lodge where you can watch the sunset over the lake. Beds are comfortable and innkeepers are lovely. Great restaraunt down the road. Not far from Peggy's Cove. The only warning I have is that people who cannot climb stairs with luggage should request a ground floor room. Otherwise, you will be carrying your luggage up a few flights, though the innkeeper did offer to help. Of all the places we stayed in our two week trip, this was the most humble, but the most enjoyable.

Simple but elegant

A wonderful and cozy house, beautiful rooms with the most amazing view on the lake and the forests around it.
The two young hosts are so nice and eager to make everybody to feel at home, that you do not have another chance, than to fully enjoy your stay, the hotel and all the accommodations, like coffee, tea, relax couches and have I yet mentioned the view on the surrounding nature?!
We will surely come back to this beautiful house and stay again to relax and enjoy.

A warm and cozy house with the most amazing view

If we could give it 6 stars, we would! We were so excited about this lodge and so happy to have discovered it at the end of our Canada tour. Starting from the top location in close proximity to Peggy's Cove and 2 great restaurants as well as shopping opportunities, to the perfect cleanliness to the super friendly and attentive team. Right when we arrived, we were warmly received and provided with valuable Novaps for the environment. A map in the small room added these exhibits once again. We felt like home there, which was also very much in the lovingly designed and over-demanded breakfast. But behind the staff is everything that is so busy, fresh and fresh of quality. Coffee is just as easy to taste, and we have been provided with an empty lodge as well. We have not yet had a chance to get a look at all the new rooms in Canada. We have had a lot of experience in terms of what we have seen and what we have seen. We have not been able to get a taste of, and what we have seen so far, and what we have not seen in a lot of places in the world.

This is by far the best hotel on the tour.

Ori and his wife were wonderful hosts during our stay.  The room was very clean and comfortable, and complimentary pastries were delicious as was the breakfast!  The views from the lodge were very nice and the location is convenient to Peggy’s Cove.
All in all, a great place to overnight.

Wonderful hosts!

A large wooden terrace served the rooms. I occupied the first. Two magnificent windows overlooking the BIG lake I confirm: it is very large. The gentleman who received me was very useful and the comfortable room was simple but perfect for the long-term traveler I am. SDB and room of exemplary cleanliness. The Moss dog is as kind as it is impressive, so do not rely on appearances, when it barks it is to signal to the owner of the place that a traveler is waiting at the reception. On the other hand, a great effort to make for breakfast. But if I pass by I will come back because the sunset from the room is a pure sea.

A Stunning View

It was a nice experience to stay at the Big Lake Motel overlooking a very beautiful lake and a very peaceful atmosphere. Few people during our visit in September, which may be why we were letting go of the common areas of the motel like the living room where the empty beer cans were hanging around a bit. Whatever the case, the manager is very friendly and hospitable. The room is clean and unfantastic. We had a good time there anyway.

It's a comfortable motel.

The room is big, a little tricky, but the view from our door pays off. In front of us a large lake surrounded by woods creates a very romantic atmosphere. A few kilometers from here the magnificent village of Peggy's Cove, with its unforgettable lighthouse. A strategic point for those who want to visit the southern part of Nova Scotia.

A special place.

We were very friendly, the owner was exemplary for our well-being, the breakfast was rich, a nice spot only 10 minutes by car from Peggy`s Cove. Anyone visiting Peggy`s Cove must definitely stay at the Big Lake Motel. Price is very good.
