By the Bay is a beautiful, peaceful property and Cathie is a lovely host.  We stayed in the Nora and Laurie Fraser room.  It is bright and airy and very comfortable.  The floor to ceiling windows and private balcony overlook the cove and Mosher Island (and the sunset).  Breakfast was delicious and Cathie was able to accommodate my unusual food allergy.  We would definitely return for a rejuvenating getaway from Halifax.

Great getaway for Haligonians

We stayed in the By the Bay Bed & Breakfost for only one night as we visited Peggy's Cove. Upon Arrival, seeing the beatiful room and property, we wished we could have stayed longer.
The host is really friendly and caring with much love for the detail - she prepared the best breakfast we had on our two-week roadtrip through the Maritimes. 
The room was spacious and clean. 
If we would have stayed longer, we could have made use of the beatiful property that leads Right down to the bay with a swing by the water.

Truly great place to stay - wish we could have stayed longer!

Hubby and I spent a wonderful three nights at this well appointted B & B.  A very convenient location outside of Halifax and close to Peggy’s Cove.  Our suite was upstairs, quiet, spacious and well appointed with beautiful views of the bay.  Our hostess, Cathie is the consummate host making our stay so pleasant.   We enjoyed visiting with the other guests over the outstanding breakfasts.  Cathie’s assistant, Bunny was also delightful in seeing to everyone’s needs.

We look forward to another stay at By The Bay Bed and Breakfast sometime in the future.  If you are looking for a relaxing stay, this would be my recommendation.

Little Gem Not To Be Missed!

This is a great B&B located just a few miles from the famous Peggy’s Cove and convenient to Halifax. Cathie, the congenial hostess is warm and helpful and a great cook. The B&B is well-appointed and sits on a large lot that backs to Long Cove. The backyard is a great place to sit and watch for birds and other wildlife. There is a cat, who spends most of his time outdoors and despite have a minor allergy to cats, I had no problems in any areas of the house. This is a very nice place in a great location.

A Great B&B

By the Bay is a cozy spot with a lofty view of a bit of beautiful Margaret Bay on the Eastern Shore.  Our room was roomy and comfortable with a fabulous veranda for relaxing with a glass of wine.  Our breakfast was excellent--the pancakes were unique and delicious.  There is a small beach area down by the cove, with a charming swing for a rest.  My favorite thing about this place is the night time sky.  The stars were gorgeous--you just don't see them so bright in many places any more, sadly.  Cathie is a helpful host. . .she really loves what she is doing.

Thank you Cathie for the terrific accommodation.  My husband and I loved the property, our room off the deck, the wonderful food and your company.  We will definitely recommend your B and B to whomever may be in the area.

A cozy place to rest

This is a great spot from which to explore the Peggy's Cove area.  Lots of interesting places to visit.  Convenient to Halifax but many other smaller towns to seek out.  The seafood is amazing.  Very busy spot.

Travel East

A lovely B&B with a wonderful host and beautiful location. Very close to Peggy's Cove. By the Bay came recommended by friends and it did not disappoint! Cathie was helpful and friendly, and her breakfasts were great. The rooms were spacious with lots of natural light and a beautiful view of the bay.

A Lovely Stay at By the Bay

Our host Cathie Watson was charming and her breakfasts were delicious and healthy! The large guest room at the top of the stairs with its own on suite and balcony came with a wonderful view of the bay.  
Can highly recommend this B&B.

Great location and beautiful views.

We spent 5 nights at By the Bay, and wished to stay more. We stayed in Nora & Laurie Fraser room (upstairs honeymoon suite with balcony). There are so many positive things to say about our stay, I'm sure I cannot do By the Bay justice. At the top of the list is Cathie, the wonderful, welcoming, knowledgeable host of By the Bay. We arrived in inclement winter weather, and she checked on our flight status as we were arriving, communicated with us about how to make the short drive from the airport and helped us stay safe on our journey. When we arrived, she was ready on the cold, snowy evening with hot tea. Over the next 5 days, we enjoyed several conversations at breakfast or tea time with Cathie. She shared lots of interesting information about Nova Scotian life, the area, the community, the history, etc. By the Bay strikes the perfect B&B balance of welcoming communal atmosphere and relaxing privacy in your room (with a great view). 
Our room was perfectly appointed, exceptionally clean, warm (with a fireplace), and the bed was very comfortable. The view is of the cove, with a beautiful lawn leading up to the water's edge. We visited in winter, which was cold, but so so pretty. There was snow all around and ice in the cove. We enjoyed our walks around the property, and we also enjoyed the view from the inside warmth of By the Bay. 
Nova Scotia is great about keeping their roads clear in winter weather (we're from the South in the US, where that is not the case). So, we got to enjoy the beauty of snow without being snowed-in, and By the Bay is a great location for seeing all the quaint fishing towns, scenic coastlines, coves, and bays, on the South Shore. It was lobster season, so everywhere we went, there were delicious lobster options (in addition to other yummy fresh seafood). 
But we didn't have to go far for delicious food, Cathie is a wonderful cook! Each morning she made us a special breakfast that we loved, was healthy and kept us energized and full well into the afternoon. I will be trying some of the recipes at our home, remembering our great time at By the Bay. Cathie had several local items on the table for us to try and enjoy (local jams, syrup, sugar, bread). 
This is the kind of travel experience you cannot get at a hotel or a cottage rental. We have not stayed at too many B&Bs, but this is one of the best and we would love to stay here again. By the Bay sets a high standard for B&Bs, and based on our wonderful experience here, we will choose B&B options on our future travels (and of course Cathie's By the Bay when we return to Nova Scotia).
