Gold River Chalet offers travelers a comfortable, affordable, clean and welcoming place to stay.
While the hotel is old, it is quite.
Their breakfast common area is clean, well stocked and provides 24/7 coffee.

Clean and comfortable

We were in Gold River to take an Uchuck III cruise and didn’t fancy the drive over from Campbell River on the same, so stayed at the Chalet for two nights. I have to say we were pleasantly surprised to find a clean, quiet and cool hotel. Great staff and reasonable prices. Highly recommended if your travels take you to Gold River.

Great Hotel

Rooms were adequate and beds comfortable but the front desk was great.  Handled our group of 14 with no issues and was very helpful to all.  Know she helped a lady with car issues.  For me I was on first trip into wilderness with an electric car.  No level 2 chargers compatible with my car so only option was standard electric plug.  But no plugs within 10 feet that my cable  adapter could reach.  I had brought extra  for emergency, but still too far.  Within minutes she had found a 30 foot extension and I plugged in over night to gain a paltry, but sufficient, 20 or so kilometres.  Thank you!

Great service from 3 star accommodations

Had to stay in Gold River to go on the Uchuck. This motel is well past its prime - old and not well maintained. The flags outside hang like torn dish rags, the blinds on the window were old broken. But the sheets were clean and the staff was friendy. Almost no electrical outlets in the room. Breakfast is very very basic, no eggs or fruit - just bread or cereal.

Dumpy Place

The Gold River Chalet is an affordable hidden gem. The staff go above and beyond to make you feel welcome. 

COVID has limited the continental breakfast choices but the kitchen area is open all night. If you want coffee at 2am, just go make a pot. 

There are book shelves and racks and games. 

The lady at the front desk Lana who seems to be there around the clock is amazing. If you need anything or info about great eating or hikes just ask. 

The rooms are older but comfortable and the water pressure is fantastic. It would be a full five Star rating with some updates. 

The town of Gold River is nestled in the mountains. A 15 min drive will bring you past multiple waterfalls. 

Everyone I met is is welcoming and kind. 

Definitely worth the drive. 



A hidden Gem

The purpose of our trip was a Nootka Sound Day Cruise.  We stayed overnight to get an early start. The Chalet staff were incredibly helpful...I had not mentioned that I had an EV and would need an overnight  plug-in for the car.  In under 20 minutes the staff had set up access to a plug-in and the problem was solved.  We found the room comfortable and clean.  We enjoyed access to the guest lounge / breakfast room. There is a very good selection of tourist information in the lobby.

Comfortable lodging, friendly and very helpful staff

This is an excellent motel.  A guest lounge is open to all visitors, and the grounds are pleasant places to sit and relax.  Coffee is available any time, and a continental breakfast every morning.   Lana is a superb host and makes sure that every resident receives everything necessary to enjoy their stay.

Comfort and friendliness

We stopped here on a motorcycle trip. The accommodation is old and slightly dated however the shower was hot and the bed comfortable! The staff member was friendly and helpful in check in. A perfect place to stay if you’re in this area. 

Basic but comfortable. 

Our experience at Gold River Chalet was very positive. The hotel has a very welcoming and homey atmosphere, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The room and furnishings were basic but functional (everything was in good working order), and very clean. The windows open and there is plenty of fresh mountain air, not to mention the naturally clean water that apparently is a trademark of Gold River. There is a large dining room where instant or perk coffee, tea, juice are 
available all the time, as well as continental breakfast, cereal, toast, etc.

Surprisingly Good Motel in Gold River!

We stayed at the Gold River Chalet for two nights last week, after looking at other hotels, Air BNB's and homestays... are we glad we stayed here! Central location, super-clean rooms, comfortable beds, very quiet and the Chalet has a GREAT breakfast room that is open all day and night. If you want a coffee or a cup of tea, if you want some late-night toast, or you need to warm up your pizza from the road-trip, all the things you need are in this room. And in the morning, help yourself to juice, cereal, toast and oatmeal. It is an awesome concept which we have not seen before. Lana, our host, was super helpful, and provided a whole range of resources for local sites, like Upana caves and the MV Uchuck (we did both). Two liquor stores and a deli/market (open until 11 pm) are right across the parking lot. Highly recommended.
