We arrived around  6:30 pm to check in.  After doing our business at the front desk, we were shown to our room.  The style was dated. The room was cold.  When we turned on the heat, that is when things went off the rails.  The heat woke up the bugs.  There were flies.  After viewing the room we noticed spider webs.  The spider webs encased the doorway, were on the light fixtures and on picture frames on the wall, including the frame over the bed.  My husband was going around the room killing the flies using a knotted towel.  After killing half a dozen flies and there still being a number to deal with, we simply gave up. 

It appeared the room had not been entered in some time.  We spoke to the manager.  When the manager came to the room, he acknowledged our problem and did not argue with us about the unsatisfactory state of the room and instead suggested we take a different room. We had not even unpacked and requested a refund.  Given the state of the room, we were fearful of having the same experience all over again so we opted to check out.  

The manager refused our request for a refund. 

We have lodged a dispute with Visa and are going through that process.

We obviously do not recommend this location.  It is one of my worst travel experiences in 40 years of travel.

Disappointing

My husband and I have NEVER been treated with such disdain,  animosity, or aggression by any hotel employee, or owner ( as was the case in Jacksonville/Woodstock NB) in our 46 years of travel - both domestic and international.  Our prepaid reservation was made by phone with the male owner,  we were many hours out from New Brunswick,  and I told him we would be arriving around 8 p.m.,  based on stormy weather,  distance,  and an international border crossing.  We arrived at 8:08 p.m. and in a rain storm,  office hours are until 10 p.m.,  no one was there and door was locked.  
We had been traveling for 10 hours by this time.
There were 2 other cars that arrived right behind us.  One eventually left,  the other couple also had a reservation.  After 10 minutes,  a young child that was inside the building,  put a paper on the door with a number to call,  I did.  Owner was away from the hotel,  and the family arrived back at the hotel about 20 minutes later,  with their bag of green peppers.  We were eventually checked in to our King room,  where we quickly discovered brown sticky goop and 2 squished bugs on the bathroom floor - which I promptly wiped up with damp toilet paper (bathroom is in very bad state of deterioration),  no telephone,  no clock,  only 1 side table for a king bed?,  some weirdly sawed out and reinserted drywall,  very old power bars placed on furniture due to lack of outlets,  and a television that had no volume.  I walked across the lot to the office to inform that TV didn't work (I did not mention any of the other matters as the bed was clean),  after standing there for about 10 minutes for someone to realize I was in the office, male owner came in from somewhere, and haughtily told me that no one could work the TV at first and that they often  have to help?  He stomped ahead of me to our room,  and went right for the remote.  After 15 minutes of phone consultation in Hindi with someone,  and trying every setting on the remote and in the TV menus,  he discovered that TV volume  was indeed not working,  BUT volume could be controlled by a button on the top corner - back side - of the HIGH wall-mounted TV under which was a rather large desk and chair.  We said that was certainly not practical,  and requested a change of room.  He was very upset that we dared to ask for a new room based on "this small problem".  Then he said he was going to keep trying,   and he did for about another 20 minutes,  again on the phone and angrily speaking to someone in Hindi.  We were exhausted,  and quite frankly now very put-off by his behavior.  I was trying to offer suggestions,  as I am adequately tech-savvy. He was getting more and more aggressive with me (a female),  and at one point,  he actually yelled at me,  pointed to the bed,  and TOLD ME  "stop with advice,  you sit down now and stop talking"!!!   By this point,  I was getting extremely upset,   so I took a walk in the hall - hubby stayed in the room.  When I came back,  he was still saying he could NOT believe we wanted a new room based on this small problem.  If there had been anywhere else we could have gone on that night,  we would have left long before this point.  After more than 40 minutes,  he very rudely gave us a new room,  right next door to the 1st room.  Again,  no advertised phone or clock, only one side table,  no outlets,  another old power bar on furniture,  another bad drywall patch reinstall, and an even filthier bathroom than the 1st one (I have multiple bathroom photos).  The bed was clean and the TV worked.  When my husband accompanied the male owner back to the office to get the 1 lonely room key (an actual key),  the owner said to my husband "you and her,  you and your wife,  you NO come back here anymore"  My husband simply replied "no problem".   I plan on doing everything within my power to warn everyone I can about this establishment,  and in reading reviews,  I see that another senior couple got very similar  treatment over basically the same issues from the same owner.  This behavior is completely inexcusable and unacceptable,  especially for the exorbitant nightly charge for such a decrepit property.  Sadly,  on the night we were there,  the "beggars can't be choosers" proverb definitely applied.  
Because the owners do not open the office doors for any reason before 9 a.m.,  there is a key drop box,  which we were more than happy to use.  My husband - wisely - did not inform me of what the owner had said about us never coming back until we were back on the road.  
One more note on this property,  although it has relatively easy access from the highway heading east,  and a bit more confusing to find heading west,  there is nothing close to this hotel but a small convenience store/gas station. 
 This hotel,  although in somewhat better repair overall than many we stayed in over the past 5 weeks,  rates near the very bottom of the scale - 30% due to cleanliness and 70% due to ownership.

Avoid this hotel!!!  Owner should not be in the hospitality industry!  Ignore the rates - they are lower for a reason!

In all the years of writing reviews this is the first time I have given a business a terrible review.  We made a reservation through hotels.com and when we arrived late at night, after 10PM, no one was on duty at the desk to check in but a sign said the desk closed at 10pm and another sign gave an emergency number to call.  I called and no one answered after quite a while.  I took picure of the closed hotel and the signage. My wife tried to get a refund from Hotels.com and the hotel and was refused despite the photos of the hotels signage.  Hotels.com should never made the reservation if they knww the hotel desk would be closed, we made the reservation after 10pm while on the road. The hotel's action in not providing a refund was just robbery as they never answered their emergency phone.

Stay Away

Called the desk to confirm a few details and the person who answered the phone was extremely rude. We decided to cancel. too close to our first night so we will probably be billed but not for the second.  We found a better hotel not far up the road with great reviews for only a small amount more. I will eat the cost but will certainly not recommend nor consider staying when I travel between Nova Scotia and Quebec. I would rate it less if I could

Good firm mattresses; microwave, coffee maker, and small fridge in room. Odd arrangement with a queen bed on each side of the room, toilet/shower in the middle, and small sink outside the bathroom. Toilet was wobbly and the bathtub was full of what looked like dirty dog paws. TV can't be seen from one of the beds. A fair amount of noise in the room from the nearby highway.

Acceptable place to crash for the night if you're not too picky

It was a nice, clean, bright room at a good price. With very friendly and helpful staff (didn't have too many interactions with them but when Idid they were great!). I really liked the pillows, very comfortable! Had a good nights sleep, what more could I ask for!

Great place to spend a night

It is reasonably priced, easy to find, clean with friendly staff. It would be somewhat better if it were to have eating  facilities. Along with the ammenities like WI-FI ,King sized beds fridge and coffee for the early risers makeing early starters a bonus.
 

Clean, organized friendly and handy.

We stayed while transiting to Quebec on a motorcycle trip.  The hotel was clean and staff friendly.  This is a basic hotel, no frills, but has lots of parking.  Good value for the price compared to others in the area.

Good Value for the money

Stayed overnight both going to Nova Scotia and returning home.  This facility is clean, comfortable and very convenient to the TransCanada Highway.  A short distance from all conveniences.  Owners are very obliging and helpful.  Very good value.

Travel East

The inn is very close to the highway, so you can get to it, but you can hear the highway. Unfortunately, there's nothing in the area. The accommodation itself was clean and the room was big, but the bathroom was so small. The strange thing was that the room was almost shared by the bathroom. If you're on the way and just want to get a good night's sleep, you're right here. Very comfortable beds.
