It pains me to have to write this review. Four of us booked this site for a cottage overnight stay. Before we entered the cottage we knew we would not stay there. Moldy windows, interior worn out and shabby, entrance step was a tripping hazard with  very small treads, and debris on the grounds from a storm that occurred 2 years previous. The whole complex shouted ‘run’ but when we went to the desk the woman there was seriously nice and offered a ‘suite’ in a newer building at the same rate. OK - we decided to stay because it was around 5:00 PM and the accommodation looked a little better. Very spacious but not clean. We moved a sofa so the 4 of us could have a better conversation and found a dirty black crumpled sock, a Cheerio and mega dirt. Beds were good. Bathrooms were just OK but convenience features such as mirrors were oddly placed, jacuzzi tubs that did not work and the list goes on. Old carpeting that has not been cleaned in many years. I wonder where Provincial inspectors are! This ‘resort’ (used loosely) should be closed and mostly demolished. Please do not stay here. Our rate was almost $260.00 and we consider it money poorly spent but more than that the experience was a downer for our trip to Cape Breton. Barb, Del, Barb and Gary. 

Very poorly kept property. 

I’m going to try hard and find positives so here goes:
1. It’s near the sea and has its own ‘beach’. Actually it’s pebbly but there are sandy beaches a couple of k further South.
2. The rooms are clean and ours, at least matched up the website photos. They had good towels and bed linen. Outside, a different story, the verandah was bare and peeling, the door was difficult to shut or open.
3. Breakfast was probably better than our experience in Canada. Although nothing was hot, they had fresh fruit, yoghurt and several different flavours of bagel.
4. Staff were genuinely helpful and friendly.
Negatives
1. There was no atmosphere to the place. 
2. Dinner food was very poor.
3. It’s not good value for money. 
4. The general condition. It desperately needs only spent on it but is the money there and would people come.

Finding positives.

This place was not as advertised. It was so run down. Our door knob wasn’t aligned and you could see right into the suite. You had to use your shoulder to get the door open. From there it just got worse. The bathrooms are original, broken down, massive amounts of peeling paint on the ceiling. The deck was plywood with almost no paint, peeling and a mess. The curtains were shabby and falling off the rods. The only thing I can say is that with a smell of bleach we could tell it was clean. The price should be $75 a night. $200 is absolutely crazy. They need to shut this down and do a rebuild. It’s not even a remodel. It is so worn and run down. They had put down new floors but not bothered to move the baseboards so they were messily cut into the corners. The grounds as a whole were nothing to be impressed with and all in all was a major let down. We stayed at many other $200 a night hotels that were gorgeous and well maintained. Do not waste your money. I have no idea who left the good reviews. 

Extremely Run Down Not Worth Price

I stayed here last summer...its been a year and im still traumatized by the absolute filth of this place...we stayed in the bottom room attached to the main building...i did not sleep a wink because i was afraid the cockroaches or whatever was in there would get me...i demanded my money back the next morning and left and told them they should NEVER let anyone stay here. Place should be burned to the ground and rebuilt. Pay extra for anywhere else or just go sleep on a picnic table. Run run run. 


Run..dont even think of wasting a cent at this dump!!!

The beds are terrible!! So hard and very old. Bed bug free though. The windows don't close all the way so can't lock. The old carpet was damp and smelled mouldy and musty. There was a broken lamp in the room as well as a broken window. The toilet is very finicky, and seems to need to be flushed twice. The a/c worked well and the mini fridge didn't freeze our food (like many other accommodations).

The property has potential and has a beautiful view, but it is far from quality.

Accommodation has potential, but along way from quality.

Hurricane Fiona hit the beach and cottages here but the rooms were clean and comfortable. Property has relatively new ownership and they're working diligently to renovate all rooms. Think it'll be a shining jewel when they're done.
One caution: Our room didn't yet have safety grab bars in shower so if you need them be sure to check this specifically before booking.

Our TV remote wasn't working when we tried it at 11 pm. Called desk and lady whose shift had just finished came right down to check it. She then made a 2nd trip to bring batteries, install them and check to ensure everything worked.

Our dinner in main dining room was great.

Can't say enough about the staff here
 Everyone made us feel so very welcome.


Cape Breton Hospitality Here😄

We stayed 3 nights in a beach cottage. There was a note from management that explained that Covid-19 had set them behind in their process of renovating. Our cottage was not unpleasant--the floors did slope, the kitchen was pretty dated and the shower very small but we found everything to be in working order, clean and with a comfortable bed. The location is great for accessing hiking and local amenities.  The property was well kept, the staff very pleasant and the breakfast quite good. It's not perfect--quite rustic I would say--but definitely not the total disaster that you might think by reading the recent reviews. And not bad at all for the price.

Depends on your expectations

The bed was ok, the water pressure great, but the linoleum was peeling up in the bathroom, the faucet in the shower was not attached and the windows didn’t lock. 

It’s slim pickings out here, but this isn’t it!

The only thing we really liked was the fact that they had beach access.

Needs a refresh!

The room we booked was not what we were given.
A Basement room with no walkout or balcony. Entrance was disgusting down concrete sub terrain steps with neighbour BBQ’ng in that cement pit. The room was clean but so disappointing that staying would have ruined our trip. Most buildings and cottages were not well kept. No pride in what they were offering. They are missing an opportunity to show case a beautiful location. This is an embarrassment to Cape Breton tourism. The restaurant was closed that day. It was explained to us that we booked through another booking engine (NO we used their website!). We were told that the more favourable rooms are booked first and we got the least favourable!? Same price mind you! We immediately went on line and got a last minute booking at the most beautiful accommodations in Ingonish….locked the door and left! I would never book here again and would not recommend it. Our stay was one hour….all I could tolerate.

Total misrepresentation - not as booked

I booked our stay back in August of 2021 for a special event where other family members would be staying.  I requested a cottage to accommodate 4.  I was “told”  that we were booked for the 2 bedroom, “ oceanfront “ cottage with “1 king bed”  bedroom, 1 double bed bedroom, “sitting area” , kitchen facility’s.  When we arrived and checked in (Friday, August 12, 2022) what we were told we had booked and what we got did “not” happen.  Before moving in I advised or the error. We had a cottage (502) farthest from the beach not ocean front, 2 bedrooms with 2 double beds each.  Tiny kitchen that could barely sit 4 people, never mind the 8 that the beds would allow.  The bathroom was a walk through between to 2 bedrooms.  Light switch in each bdrm. but would not work if one or the other was turned off.  Electrical outlet for a night light would only work if ceiling light was on! DUH!  Totally unacceptable as obviously a proper licensed, electrician was not used so therefore question safety issues.  There were ants in the kitchen, electrical outlet did not accommodate “3” pronged provided kettle.  No ground outlet that could be used for the kettle. Had to plug into a power bar and use kettle on the floor, behind the fridge, under miscrowave table!!. No accessible electrical outlets in bedrooms.  No screen on window, no air conditioning.  Requested a power bar and was given a 3 prong which of course would not work in 2 prong outlet!!  One outside chair.  I had all correspondence to indicate what was promised.  Of course the cottage we wanted was booked and we were “stuck”.  I asked front desk person to pass on my disappointment to management or owners. No apology, no compensation and made for most disappointing vacation stay.  Glenghorm has the ideal location on waterfront.  Too bad they do not have cottage accommodations to justify for a stay at their resort. I DO NOT AND WILL NOT RECOMMEND A COTTAGE STAY!!
