The owner operators were friendly and helpful.  The location was excellent. The beds were very hard and tilted to the point of almost rolling off. Its a charming but tired space. This is not a $200/night Inn. We would come back again at $125-150.  

Loved the folks but needs a facelift or a price reduction. 

First, the location is great; the linens and rooms were basic but nice and clean; beds and breakfast okay.  We were a group of 7 couples so it was nice to all be in the same house with a 'common' area. 
     Some third floor issues - the light was out on the 3rd floor landing, leaving the lower stairs in dim light.  The upper steps to the 3rd floor did not have a handrail...all of this was concerning when trying to get luggage up to the 3rd floor.  The 3rd floor was a converted attic with a shared bathroom (we'd been informed of this in advance)  but the ceilings were slanted so heads got bumped when sitting up in bed and using the bathroom.  Room 10 was lovely and spacious but room 8 small and cramped.  
     Finally, while one of the owners was very accommodating the other owner was rude.  My husband is an early riser so one morning he went down to the 'common' area to read his book.  The owner said to him, "Why do you have to get up so d*** early?"  On another occasion, I asked if there was a microwave we could use and he told me that some other guests "had curried it up" and so they did not allow guests to use the microwave. These comments made us feel very uncomfortable and for this reason, I would not recommend this Inn. 

Nice location but one owner rude

One night stay.  We arrived around 1700, and weee checked in immediately.  Focus was more on money collection than orientation.  

No individual temperature control in the room we were in.  Ceiling fan, and no exhaust fan for adjoining bathroom.  No spare roll of toilet paper in the room.  No tissues.  Pretty bare bones in terms of decor.  

While there was a desk in the room, it was very poorly lit and hence pretty much unusable.

Believe there is a living area on the first floor, as well as the dining space; used neither, as the proprietor keeps one or more cats, and I am extremely allergic.  She claimed that the cats had never been upstairs, but anyone with allergies knows that hair and dander are everywhere in a building a cat occupies.

No feedback on breakfast, couldn’t get to it.

While I take responsibility for failing to inquire if there would be allergens present, I believe they should make clear the presence of cats in the description.  

I would not return to this facility.

From booking, to our arrival, til when we were leaving and Tracy reminded us of something we left behind, the interactions with the owner were wonderful! The inn is located right off the Cabot Trail and has a nice view from the dining area. There is no elevator and we were on the second floor. It was a basic room but the bathroom was SUPER CLEAN! More establishments should have that as a bragging feature especially when it's an inn/hotel. There was free parking and a nice wrap around porch with seating. Tracy was so kind and since we had been driving 7 hours throughout the day, she warmed up our dinner. The room didn't have a coffee maker, fridge or microwave. There isn't anything fancy like chain hotels but it has a homey feel. There is a couch in the dining area for guests to hang out. There is a house cat who wanders (I have allergies to cats and I wasn't bothered). There isn't cat hair everywhere; like I said, it's a very clean place. I am gluten and dairy free, so Tracy gave us fresh strawberries which was great at breakfast. It was also quiet...the walls are thin so you can pretty much hear people talking in the rooms above or beneath you. Overall, a good place to stop along the Cabot Trail.

Great clean place to get some rest and breakfast 

Stayed at the Island Inn just before starting the main part of the Cabot Trail and indeed managed to drive halfway round and back on the day we arrived which was good. Friendly and helpful owners and lovely breakfast of blueberry pancakes and sausages was enjoyed. Nice walk to local beach and got tips of where to visit on the Cabot trail.

Good location and friendly staff

We landed at Island Inn without prior reservation at 9:00 PM after walking out of an awful three hour stay at overpriced Keltic Lodge. Our room was small but clean and comfy and our hostess couldn’t have been nicer, helping us find a takeout dinner and letting us eat in dining room.  The inn is comfortable and unpretentious and very reasonably priced with nice view of water. And there’s a somewhat friendly cat (not near guest rooms!) who added to the homey feeling. 

Definitely recommend.

Lovely inn with hospitable hosts

We spent 2 nights at the Island Inn during a trip around Cape Breton soon after the April-May 2021 lockdown ended.  Our room was at the front and had a lovely view of the water with a comfy bed, a small desk (something we appreciated as we needed to check in with work), and a clean spacious bathroom. The owners were friendly and knowledgeable about the area. They were always masked in our presence and were clearly following all current covid protocols. They also made sure we had a yummy breakfast and made sure to ask about any dietary restrictions (not something that applied to us but always a good sign in my book).

The location is great as a place to base day trips in Highlands National Park and while during our visit there were only a limited number of options for lunch and supper, more opened each day we were there.  

One other note, there is an inn cat, but one who is passively curious about visitors but not overly affectionate. He's not allowed upstairs (there's a door blocking his way) and from what we could see mostly spends his time lounging outside or on a chair. He accepted a pat when offered but otherwise kept his distance.

Great location, friendly staff and yummy breakfast

My family and I stayed at the Island Inn for one night and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We were in a room on the 2nd floor. The room, beds and bathroom were good for our stay. We had an issue with the shower that was promptly dealt with by the owners. Couldn't ask for more on a holiday weekend. 

The views from the Inn were gorgeous! The wrap around deck was nice for relaxing and enjoying the view. 

The breakfast was delicious. Our kids ate every bite. The coffee was so good! I wish I could have taken some with us. 

The owners were very friendly and helpful. They took time to get to know us, which was really appreciated!

We hope to return next summer for another stay, this time for longer!

Quaint inn with great owners and staff

The Island Inn was an awesome place for us to spend the night on our trip around the Cabot Trail. Tracy was so friendly during our last-minute booking and check-in. We were fortunate to be in a room with a fabulous view of the water (and the sunrise the next morning!). Rooms were spacious, comfortable and clean. Tracy was accommodating of our dietary restrictions, even when we forgot to tell her in advance (do tell her upon check in if you have dietary restrictions though and she will likely do what she can to accommodate for breakfast!). All around an amazing B&B experience. 

Wonderful spot to spend the night. Great location, friendly owners. 

Hi,
We stayed in the ground floor room with private entrance. A very basic room with no luggage racks or location for one’s luggage.
Checked in before dinner. Owner more concerned about getting paid than orientation or local suggestions and tips.
Upon return after a Ceilidh we were locked out of our room. The key only opened the dead bolt and not the door knob.
Called the owner at 11:00 pm and got answering machine..... not a great feeling.

The breakfast was good but coffee from a Bunn only warm and no microwave or assistance. Breakfast is self serve.

The other 2 couples were content but agreed on the price being too high for average rooms.
