Garden Bay

We rented Chalet #10 for 3 nights on Thanksgiving weekend. Quiet, 3 Bedroom, 2 Bathrooms. Spacious for our party of 4 with a dog. Spacious living room, full equipped kitchen, clean., comfortable beds. The hot tub on the balcony was a treat in October.  The best part is the views of the harbour. Sunset was spectacular.  Many hikes around the area.  Outdoor pool was closed for the season. Great quiet getaway.

Super Fall Weekend!

This place is a hidden gem. Form the moment we arrived Linda was super helpful and kind. The room we got was motel 3. It has all you need. We went with my family and can’t wait to go again. The pool is perfect. The grounds are kept clean.

Thank you so much for the great mini vacation.

Family vacation.

THE PROS:
*beautiful location with views of the marina, ocean and treed areas from the deck of cabin number 8
*all staff with the exception of the owner, were friendly and helpful
*the cabins are nice although lacking ‘resort’ amenities (ie no microwave, decaf coffee or kleenex and only a few bathroom amenities). 
THE CONS:
*this property is not a ‘resort’ in the traditional sense of the word
*there are 22 RV sites on the property as well as the cabins
*the website states the pool is open May to September but it was closed
*the starter button on the (old) barbecue did not work
*our bedroom window DID NOT HAVE A LOCK ON IT and the screen was held on with duct tape
*we drove to the office several times and there was never anyone there. We had to text/call the owner or his wife  when we had a question or we needed something. The owner did not always answer back.
*on the second day we were there, I asked the owner to please come and talk with me to discuss the above issues. When he came, he was immediately defensive and rude and unwilling to discuss these issues any further. As he walked away, he said to me, “JUST LEAVE”.
*this was a three night ($320/night including pet fee and taxes) 70th birthday get-a-way for me. This owner’s  LACK OF PUBLIC RELATIONS AND CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLS and totally disrespectful behaviour and attitude ruined my special day.
*I would not return to this property nor would I recommend it to family or friends.

BEWARE RUDE AND APATHETIC OWNER JEFF PEIFER!

Spare yourself the risk of having your family vacation tainted because the owner Jeff will do that to you.

We are an Asian family and arrived at this "Resort" during our Sunshine Coast trip to rent a motorboat. My younger brother did the booking and paid online. We had yet to decide on a designated driver. We were all fully licensed adults.

 When we walked into the office, the "Resort" owner Jeff started making condescending remarks saying he was "Extremely uncomfortable renting the boats to us". Even after I said I will fill out the waiver forms again as the designated driver, he gives us snarky replies, "well that doesn't make me feel any better", and "I am the owner of this resort, YOU have to convince me to rent the boat to you!"

My family and I are from Vancouver, we have driven rented boats before in Okanagan, I myself have driven boats in Vancouver, Florida and California countless times. Never once had we needed to "convince" anyone we were worthy and capable of driving boats.  Mind you, we are renting a 4-6 seater motorboat that does not require a special boating license. 

After we expressed our concern that he was rude and made us feel unwelcome and we are going somewhere else for boat rentals, Jeff said in front of my entire family and his staff, "Thank god, WHAT A RELIEF!"

Earlier we saw how friendly he was treating other guests who are caucasian. So we simply had to call him out for what it is, "are you treating us like this just because we are Asian?" Ironically, the man who spent 20 minutes prior repeating countless snarky remarks all of a sudden says "now I feel insulted", and just dove into the cover of his office.

No visitor (regardless of their ethnicity) should ever need to "convince'' anyone they are worthy and deserving of service.  Save yourself the risk of having your trip tainted and go somewhere else. This is not a "resort." The owner's attitude represented more of a "Trailer park".

RUDE, CONDESCENDING, RACIST OWNER

We have stayed here in the marina with a boat and also rented a cottage and it has been absolutely perfect. However, we never had enough guests to try the Chalet but finally did this year 3 couples. The cottages are great but the Chalet is perfect:
There are rooms on 3 levels: 1 in a loft, two on main floor and 2 in basement. Hint: on a realy hot day the basement is still cool.  There is a large hot tub and several dining areas and a huge kitchen. My guess is the Chalet can hold about 5 couples comfortably. I cannot say how perfect, clean and well provided this Chalet is. We have stayed in 4 and 5 star hotels in Milan, Paris, Munich, Venice, Buenos Aires and this is one of the best. You are directly above the ocean but it is very quiet. 

Jeff, the owner/manager 9is absolutely accommodating and treats you as if you are the only guest ever and is so proud of the resort he will take time to show you upgrades. We have the resoursec to travel any where in the world and live in Vancouver but this is one of our favorite.

Pender Harbour Resort - Chalet

We stayed in cabin 5 for a couple of nights. Recommend booking in advance for a good spot. The cabins are a great experience, would probably recommend it over yurts or motels. Staff was pretty helpful, and we took a boat out into the harbour in the morning. The cabin floor is a bit slanted, probably due to bad foundation, or general shifting of the ground. However, the place was clean, which is really important right now with the pandemic. Very relaxing place to be

Great trip, friendly staff

We stayed in cabin #8. The cabin was very clean. The kitchen has a range, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, coffee maker, toaster and unfortunately no microwave. The kitchen is fully stocked with pots, pans, dishes and utensils.
The bathroom is full size with tub and shower. The bathroom has plenty of counter space. 
Besides cabins the resort has sites for camping and RV's with washrooms with showers and laundry facilities.
The marina offers moorage on nice docks. 
The resort is conveniently located on the B.C. Sunshine coast between Secret Cove to the South and Egmont to the North. Madeira Park is nearby for groceries at the local IGA supermarket, liquor store and restaurants at nearby resorts. 
Madeira Park is near a coastal hike to Frances Point which we enjoyed.
The highlight of our Sunshine coast stay was the hike to Skookumchuck Narrows/Rapids in Egmont. We caught the high tide at the right time and saw surfer and kayakers do their thing.

Pender Harbour Resort and Marina

We rented a slip for our sailboat for 4 nites and slept on the boat so we have no review of the yurts, cabins or tent sites.The location was great and the dock is only a couple years old and has power and water.There is a very good little store at John Henry's resort store/ fuel station /marina which is an easy row away.The showers are pretty bad. the stalls are tiny and cost 3 loonies/ 5 min but the water went from scalding to freezing so much of the 3 minutes were taken just adjusting water.Management were apologetic when one woman was left with hair full of shampoo when the shower cut off.We had some mechanical issue on the boat and I asked if we could delay checkout for an hour but they refused because the slipped was booked,but there were several empty slips I could have moved to,or perhaps move to the side of the dock or some other option.The marina was quiet although there was some partying in the cabins later than the posted 11pm noise curfew that might have been annoying to those nearby.This place was otherwise clean and people staying there were friendly.Pender harbor itself is a scenic,well protected harbor with some good trails nearby for hiking.There is a grocery store about 1/4 mile from the Maderia dock accross the harbor (approx 0.8mile) and they have an arraignment so you can take the shopping cart of provisions to the dock and leave the cart at dock. Also a chandlery who were very helpful right there next to the Maderia dock . It is definitely worth a stop!

I booked a cabin for one night.The cabin we were assigned had a nice view of a new marina.Otherwise you live on smelly, betting furniture.Impossible for the price! Never again!!

It's expensive for that!

We were coming through on motorcycles and needed  over night accommodation. After several phone calls we found this place.
A Yurt was the only option so we took it, In general the concept is okay however it felt more like a money grab, no running water or bathroom, no towel or basic hotel type supplies and the bathroom facilities were a good distance away down a gravel pathway. Bed and bedding were perfect.
With a little imagination this could be great, I think the owner needs to stay here and pretend to be a guest to find out what is really needed.

The site guy, Robin was outstanding and tried really hard to keep us happy. Don't get me wrong were not unhappy , it just could have been better with little effort.
