We stayed in a one bedroom cabin. It was dark and horrible. I have never in all my years of travelling pre Covid and since Covid been asked to wash all the dishes etc before using!!  Mind you I went to use a baking tray and the grease on it was absolutely disgusting. The bedroom had a comfy bed and the sofa in the so called lounge area was comfy too. Bathroom was extremely tiny and the shampoo, conditioner and body wash container was not the best. In the joints between each one it was brown. How the hell they have the cheek to charge what they do cleaning is beyond me. When we arrived we had to send and e- mail to say we had arrived. All I got back was thank you. Surely it wouldn’t haven’t hurt whoever to say  we hope you enjoy your stay, but nothing. Think it’s a case of take the money and that’s it. On top of that you have to take your garbage to the local tip. Why don’t cleaning team do that!

The unit was very comfortable for 2. A wonderful front row outlook onto the ocean and a well positioned hot tub to enjoy the view. The only minor nit was the limited options for dining out on Monday and Tuesday nights and a small fridge.

Scenic. Quiet and Relaxing.

Handsome Dan’s made for a great base for our Port Renfrew stay. Our cabin was one of many privately owned cabins in a large complex on the hillside above the harbor. We initially had a little trouble finding it, but once we arrived we were very impressed. The cabin was complete with a living area, kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom, as well as a very big deck on 2 sides. The place had a bit of clutter in it, obviously personal stuff of the owner’s, but not overly so. But it did definitely feel like you were staying in someone’s house. The kitchen was fully functional and we prepared all of our meals there, no problem. There was a TV in the bedroom that had Netflix and Youtube so we were able to watch a few movies while we were there. The Wifi signal was reasonably good, which was important, as the cell phone signal was fairly weak most of the time. We had no trouble staying connected. The only thing we found a bit weird was that there was no place around the cabin or in the complex to dump your garbage, so you actually had to drive down the road to the town garbage dump and dump it yourself. Other than that, we had a fantastic stay and would definitely recommend it to other travelers.

Excellent base for your stay in Port Renfrew.

The cottage was so cute.  We loved the decor and outdoor area. It was very private and quiet. It was exactly what we were looking forward to. Great location too. Everything was easy to get to and instructions for everything in the cottage was very helpful.  
 We will definitely be back!

Peaceful get away to beautiful Port Renfrew

Overall the Rocky Knoll was excellent. The cabin is very well appointed and comfortable. Check in was very easy and the host messaged to ensure that everything was good. The wifi was excellent. The cabin is located close to restaurants and the boardwalk and deck are very cool. I would stay here again.

Second stay at Fish Tales! Absolutely love this cabin , lots of activities and a very warm welcome feeling. Already planning our next trip back in the summer. The nature, fishing, no traffic and no CELL service 😁

We stayed at Hera's Cove over Christmas Break.  The unit has a beautiful oceanfront view of San Juan bay.  Hera's Cove is a pretty large unit with three bedrooms and two full baths on two floors. The top floor has a large balcony/deck overlooking the bay, and the ground floor, where the bedrooms are, opens up to a cozy and private space with chairs and a fire pit (don't forget to bring dry firewood and kindling to take advantage of this). The unit is modern with a full and fully equipped kitchen (the toaster was an issue, only 2 of 4 slots worked, and the two that worked only barely worked - hopefully that can be replaced for all the toast-eaters out there - we did manage, though), which is needed because only one of the four restaurants was open while we were there.  We brought our turkey dinner leftovers and some yummy Sunday Sauce.  Before I go any further I need to say that the couch sucked us right in and we spent a good portion of our time lying on the couch, sleeping (we slept real good out there) reading, listening to the rain and wind and looking at the bay and the mountains. I would have thought Christmas break would be busier, but we felt quite alone there, which was just fine with us. Tips: bring food. Think about three meals a day and plenty of snacks and fresh fruit and veggies.  If it's something you need for your routine, bring it with you.  The San Juan Market has a pretty good selection of staples, but have plenty on hand with you - if you get sucked into the couch you won't be wanting to go out looking for anything.  If the couch releases you, check out the observation deck just down the stairs at the north end of the property, or head down to the pier, by the restaurant.  Make sure to spend some time on Pacheedaht Beach, no matter the weather. We also walked around the whole property and saw other units.  There are many different variations of units.  We saw one with a hot tub, which is tempting.  Our stay was: private, cozy, peaceful, and extremely restful - exactly what we wanted.  We booked December 2023 before we left!

We rented 2 houses for our group that included some toddlers. Everything was beautiful, well kept, well equipped, and information was thoroughly communicated in the emails and welcome book. My questions were answered promptly by email. The whole group was very impressed and we will definitely recommend this to others, and likely be back ourselves. 

Fantastic experience

Loved Cabin #29, wish we had more than 5 days to stay even longer. Kitchen is well kitted out with everything needed. Cabin is well situated with more privacy than most. Lovely fire pit outside with comfy chairs. Other renters and guests all respectful and quiet.  The perfect base to explore all Port Renfrew has to offer. Nice to have pet-free cabins, thanks!

Rest and Recharge

We stayed at Handsome Dan's (On The Rocks) in Port Renfrew.   What a fabulous place.  So quite and well looked after and so clean.  Handsome Dan's made sure that we had all we needed and made us feel like if we needed anything they were just a call away.  Can not wait to visit again soon.   Thank you so much Ken and Joy for making our stay memorable.
