I booked this room as a last resort when nothing else was available. It is important to know what you are getting yourself into.

This is a very old building. The operator is an eccentric and really funny lady who was very pleasant to us, contrary to the reviews I have read. While I find it very important to support small independent businesses, it is also important to know a few details about the facility.

1) The building is extremely old. I am VERY concerned about the safety of the building as it is in poor repair. The basement where my room was located had very small windows, not in line with fire codes.

2) The photos of the rooms on various booking sites do not accurately depict the space.

3) The people that stay at this location really contribute to the situation by not respecting the property- there is damage caused by inconsiderate guests.

4) Linens are very old and stained. The operator was kind enough to replace some urine and blood stained sheets in our room, claiming it was from a rusted out  wash machine. I understand things are expensive, but proper laundering facilities are required when you operate a hostel or hotel. If booking here, I suggest bringing your own linens.

5) The washroom facilities are (I hate to say it) absolutely disgusting. The showers are exceptionally small and water spills all over the main washroom area. As a result, guests are expected to mop up after themselves. Toilet areas have old doors with gaps, rust is to be seen everywhere. The urinal faces the kitchen and the door is left open. There is no privacy here.

The location of this hostel is great as it is very close to amenities.

Overall, I think if you know what you are booking, it is fine. As a person who has never stayed in a hostel though , I found it pretty bad. I wanted so desperately to praise the operators for their facility as the Lady that runs it is lovely, however, the place needs a lot of work.

My travel buddy worked in various hostels in Europe and referred to the condition of this place as a "budget prison  cell".

Again, love the idea of supporting small business. Wish I could compliment them on something. Sadly, this is the worst facility I have ever stayed at due to cleanliness and condition.

You need to know what you are getting yourself into.

Stayed here on the weekend booked for 2 nights but as soon as me and a friend was showing to or horrible disgusting room we tried hard to find a new hotel as the room was tiny and the bed sheets was horrible we never even used them, not washed or clean I found a big long black hair in my tiny bed so I dont think anything gets washed lol we asked for a refund for the second night as we booked a hotel for the second day as soon as we saw her rooms as we could not get a hotel for that day as we got up late and she would not do it, there is also no aircon in or room and no tv nothing was like a coffin lol very depressing lol don't go here definitely not recommend and way to expensive we payed like 300$ for two nights what a joke we never really looked at the site before we booked unfortunately hopefully you read this review before you booked lol she also told us it was a good room so id hate to see what she calls a bad room gross, also there is very little privacy in the ( shared toilets and showers ) p.s dont be fooled by my photo on the phone there was hardly any light in that room 

Horrible, disgusting, place.

My stay in this place lasted about a week, about 4 years ago, during a wonderful Okanagan summer.

As I recall this experience today, I clearly remember that the check-in process was cold and unwelcoming.

During my stay, I needed to rest, as I had already been on the road for a while. So, I did not leave the building a lot. I used the dining are a lto to do computer work while I traveled. This seemed to disrupt the owner.

I have a clear recollection of the men's washroom reeking of urine. I also recall the owner pointing to "men" as the cause of the cause of the problem. Sure, let's go with that. I offered and disinfected the place. It still reeked!

I think this place is more suited to younger travelers who get out during the day. As a mature traveler, I'd avoid this place and lookup the other hostels in town.

Not impressed for a first time stay in one of these places!

The woman looks like the owner will ask you 200 dollar as security deposit, even you pay your room charge in full. It is a dorm room so 8 beds space inside one room. When you pay this 200 dollar, I wonder if you can get it back? The woman keep saying if you do not like the deposits, go a head cancel the book from booking.com, and go somewhere to stay! I just do not know why booking.com make this hostel listed? 

The hostel has a huge sign for sale, no hostel signage on the building, very strange place.


This is a horrible place, scam hostel, run!

I can't recommend this place to anyone. There is an extreme lack of noise and thermal insulation. The hygiene conditions are extremely bad (a spider is crawled out of my pillow and don't get me started on the bathrooms). But the worst of all is definitely the service. The lady at the reception is not only rude but also interferes in things that clearly don't concern her.

DO NOT RECOMMEND

Bad value, bad smell, bad facilities, FILTHY BATHROOM, gruff host, she cancelled my booking before i even arrived, huge angry dog in the reception, a horrible stay i could even shower it was too disgusting.......AVOID!!!

Absolutely filthy.

I've traveled a lot and been to hostels, motels and hotels. This place was the worse I have ever been. The lady seemed like she doesn't trust guests and although I can understand this, it gives an unwelcoming feel right from the start.
But this was not the worse. 
- The room we got was smelling of mold. 
- There was no screen on the window
- There was a stick to hold the window open, which is dangerous.
- The room was old and unattended.
- The sofa chair was dirty with stains.
- Shelves were actually broken and there were holes in the walls.
- Cathodic TV?
- Absolute zero sound isolation.
- Handprints on doors and walls, very dirty.
- Dead bugs in the lamps.
- Bathrooms fans black with dirt.
This place is seriously unattended and it's unprofessional. Not worth your time or money. We were in a hurry and didn't read the reviews, or we wouldn't have gone there.

Do not go there!

Do not stay here. Maggie the host is rude, and knit pickity to the point of following guests around the kitchen, and invading personal space in the bland hostel dorm. She stared me down and glared at me as I opened a tub of my own ice cream in the kitchen and continuously popped her head into the dorm while I was trying to sleep, as though spying on me though I wasn’t doing anything to breach a normal hostel stay.

She should not be owning a hostel.

Stay at Kelowna International Hostel instead!! Closer to the beach, cheaper rates AND the most nurturing and enriching atmosphere, run by a lady who is an inspirational speaker with HEART.
