Our stay was ok. It’s not a fancy motel but a place to sleep. Rooms are very dated, cement walls, older furniture. The bed was very comfy though and the place was clean.  A/C worked well. There is a room next to the check in office that allows you to use the microwave and fridge. Location was about a 15 minute drive east of downtown Gananoque. It’s somewhat out of the way, there are no restaurants nearby so you need to drive into town. It is however across the road from the Thousand Islands 3 hour tour boat which might be convenient to some. We did the 5 hour tour which left downtown Gananoque.

Average room but beds were comfy

This is our second time staying there. There is now a different owner, and the standards still remain as good as before. Inder does a super job keeping things up. We will definitely be back. It's a great hidden gem. The restaurant across the road Donnelly's on the river is a great spot also.

Quaint Motel

We had room 3   It was small but quite clean and fresh. 

The fellow who checked us in was polite and friendly.   The rate was reasonable 

We really enjoyed the quiet and the bird songs outside. It is across the road from the St Lawrence River and you don’t see the river from the motel but if you are going to take the boat cruise it is an ideal location, right across the road from the dock. 

We would return

Nice quiet motel

This is a very nice small motel. The room was very clean, the beds comfortable and it was very quiet. The had one room set up as self serve kitchen with microwave,toaster and a table,it was a nice added touch. We found a great restuarant just up the road for full breakfast, Rapid Valley on County Road 2.

I honestly would stay here again but..it was advertised as a lake view room, no rooms at this motel have a lake view. When I asked the owner he said it had a lovely view and pointed to the trees in between the buildings. Since I was traveling with my mother and did not want to upset her, I did not push the issue but it clearly states lake view, the photos say view from the hotel, those are photos taken from above the hotel up over it.  It was very disappointing. You also call yourself lakefront, but you are across the street with very large bushes blocking any view. Just advertise the right thing. If that had been advertised correctly I would give this four stars,

Very nice motel, just not what it says it is.

The Capricorn is nothing fancy.  It’s clean, the rooms are of a good size, the beds are comfortable and the amenities are adequate.  The owners could enhance the esthetics of the rooms with some new bedspreads. However, the linens were new and of high quality.  The shared kitchen is nice, but they could use an ice machine (instead of ice trays in the freezer) and maybe a vending machine.  The motel is right across the street from the boat tour and a nice restaurant open for lunch and dinner  that is on the river.  Overall a good value for the price.  

Nice motel near everything

We stay only 1 night. It was perfect. Typical motel but clean and the front desk guy was really helpful. The 1000island cruise just 200 meter far. No restaurants for the breakfast but you must visit this: Rapid Valley, 898 County Rd 2, Lansdowne, ON K0E 1L0. 

Not too bad

Whenever I visit a hotel I wipe the surfaces and washroom faucet and door handles before settling in. Even at the high end luxury hotels, the white paper towel I use turns brown or black after wiping everything down, however, at Capricorn Motel Royale the white paper towel remained completely white, no hint of any dirt whatsoever. I was curious how they kept everything so sparkling clean and the owner Karen told me that she does the cleaning herself (and in fact I saw her pushing a cleaning trolley around performing the daily cleaning).

Some other nifty features of this motel strip:
-it has an outdoor BBQ set for guests and a large kitchen area (no stove though)
-there is a well manicured lawn between the to buildings with a nice stone walk path (a very nice touch)
-the owners Rob and Karen are always checking up to make sure everything is going well (at some other motels/hotels, you can never find anyone who cares)
-the location is directly across the street from departure bay of the Gananoque Boat Cruise
-the owners Rob and Karen also provided us helpful information about local attractions
-there's an outdoor seating area and table in front of each unit (this is a very nice bonus which I rarely see)

Some cons:
-the paring was quite tight, especially since most vehicles were large pickup trucks or SUV
-the water temperature in our shower kept fluctuating and at time created a loud whining noise which likely woke the neighbors (Karen explained that they had just replaced some plumbing equipment which may have caused this problem)

Overall, this is a place I would certainly return to in the future since it seems to be better than most other motels in the area, and the owners Karen and Rob really care about the comfort of their guests..

Spotless clean, but not perfect.

Had a great Autumn trip in Ivy Lea. Rob And Karen the new owners where very polite and courteous to us .we had a great stay at Capricorn , 
We stayed to do some hiking in the area and some site seeing.  Bolt castle trip is a must
A very long bike path that goes on for ever. (we didn't use )

We met a few people while sitting outside, and alot of them where return customers...that says alot alone.  Rooms are very clean and comfortable , had absolutely no problems while we stayed for 5 days.

Great Autumn trip

Love the place, really quiet especially after spending two days at Niagara Falls. Needed quiet time and it was the place. Owners are really pleasant, helpful and funny. Confy beds, clean. Close to the water, good place for divers, nice restaurant across the street with 10% discount when you show your hotel receipt. If you want to visit the 1000 islands you just go across the street and you can take the boat ride. We really love this little place and we will come back to relax for sure.

First trip there and will come back

The owners Rob & Karen were very nice. If your looking for a quiet little place this is perfect. You can do a tour of the 1000 islands and or Boldt castle you can walk across the street. Nice little restaurant right by the water. If your looking for a place with a lot of stuff to do then go towards town. We enjoyed staying here.
