Boathouse Country Inn

Leeds and the Thousand Islands

Motel (no more and no less) directly on the water of the Thousand Islands region. 2 rooms share a small balcony (terrace) to the water. This one especially, otherwise standard with 2 king size beds etc. Motel's own restaurant was no longer open (end of season). Check in via another restaurant, 20 meters away. About 12:00 arrival as part of a tour from Montreal to Toronto. Why we were left waiting until 16:00 although no room was cleared and our location was cleaned, remained unclear. Something sympathetic to us. It was neither made after the first night nor the room cleaned. Nevertheless: The room was fine. Beautiful for 2 nights in the region.

Nice location.

This place is a beautiful old Inn. When we arrived we were unhappy to find the gas fireplace was not working. That was remedied after a few complaints. We were given free passes for the 1000 island boat cruise. Also, don't expect a phone. No room phones here, so you'd better have a cell. The restaurant and general store were great.  I would definitely visit again.

Anniversary visit.

We stayed in the St Lawrence room for two nights this week. Comfortable, clean room with a wonderful view. The lady at the checkin was friendly and helpful. Food at the pub was delicious. Very convenient for the cruise. We enjoyed our break.

Boathouse Inn

We stayed at the Boathouse Country Inn for our 40th wedding anniversary, it was our “Lack of Independence Day” July the 4th and had booked for two nights.  We booked the St. Brendan Room that boasted a queen bed, private balcony, air conditioner, mini fridge, gas fireplace, satellite television, private bath and a fantastic view of the 1000 Islands… it sounded so nice and cozy…, perfect for a two night get-away… but is was anything but… 

Because of Covid, the check in was at the bar next door where we waited a long time for several folks ahead placing take-out orders before we could check in... ok, that was probably unavoidable these days because of Covid… 

We got to the room and while was fairly clean (not as clean as expected), and it certainly wasn’t as described on the website…  the bed had a hard very basic mattress, all but one window was covered with the cheapest of dollar store type vinyl mini-blinds… and the operating handles didn’t work so they really couldn’t be closed fully… one small window had wider, but still cheap 10cm (2”) vinyl blind…  odd that those blinds were at least 2m (6’) long blind for a 0.5m (1½’) window… leaving a thick clump of slats at the bottom with a small section at the top that technically could opened… this small window could be opened, but it took brute force to open the side locks and turn the handle… 

Yes there was an air conditioner… which sounded much like the air-brakes of a transport truck while it was on… at any level… that meant it needed to be turned off if we wanted to sleep… or talk… making opening the window really important on a hot night, despite the challenges of getting that to work…  There was a ceiling fan which was slightly less noisy than the air conditioner…  still too loud to sleep with it running….

I’m not sure why they boast having satellite tv, there’s more channels on cable than they have, not that we used it much…

We checked out the “private balcony with the fantastic view of the 1000 Islands”… actually there was just enough room with the table and two chairs out there for us to squeeze into… the view for one while sitting is the back of the restaurant next door and parking lots… for the other, while you could see water, it was a small area where there was boat parking… you can’t actually see the St. Lawrence river… although I suppose technically this little inlet is part of it… but you can’t see any of the thousand islands… your can’t see much of them out of the windows either….

There was a beehive on the eve right above the “balcony” which made it almost impossible to sit outside without being buzzed… so we shut the door and went to the bar next door… only to return to find the door apparently takes a more effort or skill to shut than we’d used to make sure it doesn’t blow open…  which it did... you really need to push hard to get it to actually shut properly even though is seems to be closed… and of course our room was full of bugs when we returned… (our fault I suppose for not closing the screen first)…

There was a coffee maker in the room… while it did technically “work” and made hot water… it was a good thing our plan was to use it for making tea…  because what came out of it was dirty, gritty, brownish, disgusting water… and of course in the early morning, nothing in the area is open… and there was no one around to ask for help….

Not all was lost, Rockport is a lovely little village… and the Cornwallis Pub is very good (although it closed at 10:00 pm due to Covid),,, But we were able to sit on the front porch of the hotel and watch the 4th of July fireworks on the US side with a bottle of wine to celebrate our anniversary.

As for the Boathouse Country Inn, they’re surviving on how it looks on the outside and a reputation they don’t deserve.  These are one-star accommodations at best and it certainly is not worth the money.  No insult intended to one-star places… many are much better that the Boathouse Country In

Certainly not as described and hugely disappointing…

Stayed in the St Brendan room and we are very disappointed. We spent $200 incl. tax on a room that was not even worth half of that. Spent 45 minutes sanitizing and wiping down the room, and from the filthy cloths it was clear the room’s door handles and surrounding areas on the doors, all flat surfaces, nor the bathroom had been cleaned properly. As a result we slept extremely poorly and had to make the four hour drive home with inadequate sleep, and are now also worried about possibly having been exposed to Covid-19. 

Early on the morning of our departure we called the inn, and had to leave a message requesting a callback from a manager. 

Manager Kyle called back late afternoon. He stated that if the room was THAT dirty we should’ve been able to see that with the naked eye when we dropped our bags off in the afternoon (We called ahead and were able to check in early because the room had not been used the night prior. 
We dropped our bags in the room and proceeded to our venue, then returned at about 10:30pm at which time the cleaning commenced with sanitizer brought from home). 

It was clear their cleaner & supervisor weren’t able to detect the soiled areas with their naked eye, but that didn’t seem to occur to him. We requested they have a look at the dirty cloths left on the bathroom floor to get some idea of how dirty the room was. 
Manager Kyle also stated that the waterfront location alone was worth the price of admission. 
It became clear after only a couple of minutes of conversing with Kyle no resolution was going to be offered. The entire process lacked basic customer service skills. 

 Read on if you like details;
-In addition to the uncleanliness and tiny size of the room the following were lacking/broken; 
-larger window blind broken, some window blinds and all window sills very dirty, balcony window doesn’t operare properly, uncomfortable bed, tiny shower (hardly large enough for a 5 foot person, and a 6 foot person has to duck to get in or get any benefit from the shower head location), no sanitation station inside of building to use after having to touch two door handles just to get to our room, and there are other petty issues not worth mentioning here. 

If you’ve read this far it’s pretty clear we are very unhappy with our stay at the Boathouse, and will not be returning. We’d rather sleep in a tent. It is sad because it’s a beautiful spot and we would’ve become regular customers, and would’ve encouraged others to stay there as well. 
The place is super cute in an amazing location, but it is not being repaired and maintained as it should be to preserve it for future generations. It appears the spot is just being used a cash cow without any regard for historic value or preservation.

Miss

We loved our stay. It was quiet and comfortable.
The rooms are small, but well equipped.  
Rockport is a tiny town. Busy with tourists during the day and extremely quiet in the evening.  The latest anything is open is 10 pm, but that worked for us.

Beautiful spot

Stayed here as we travelled up from Toronto on the way to Burlington,VT. Lovely quiet little Inn, with cosy rooms. We were there out of season and it was really quiet, but can imagine it's very popular in the warmer months! We had food over the road at the cornwall pub, great food and we were made very welcome!

Lovely little Inn

We stay in May with a little group of friends. This tiny B&B is perfect for a stay for a boatrip through the 1000 Islands. 
The rooms were nice. Beds are comfortable and the little bathroom is ok
and clean.  Perfect for a short stay of one or two nights. You find a coffeemaker and a fridge! Parking free of charge and the boathouse restaurant is amazing. Little small village
nearby. 

Sweet B&B for a 1000 Island Excursion 

The restaurant was in a nice frame facing the dockside, but the food was not up to the standard, very average, the ingredients were obviously not of high quality, the burgers were neither very good (probably not 100% pure beef) nor well cooked.

For the framework only

The location of the Boathouse Country Inn is lovely.  It sits right on the St. Lawrence River, and our room (Room 1) had a private patio that overlooked the dock area.  We could watch the large tour boats and private boats come and go. Because the tour boats leave from this location, the area is very crowded though, so be prepared for noise and lots of traffic during the day. Our room, although adequate and mostly clean, was not very comfortable.  There was no comfortable seating in the room, and the bed was lumpy. The air conditioner was also very loud and never shut off.  There was a nice large bathroom with walk-in shower. Overall, this place seems somewhat overpriced for the quality of accommodations.  However, I'm not from the area and don't know what other comparable hotels might charge.
