Very friendly and helpful owners, outstanding clean rooms and bathroom, bright rooms with comfy beds, delicious breakfast and centrally located. I have stayed for one night but will return another time. I highly recommend this place!! Be aware that there is only one bathroom for 3 bedrooms but for me this wasn't an issue at all.

One of best B&B in Nova Scotia

The place was exactly what I expected from the information and photos online.  That doesn't mean it was perfect; it just means that I knew what it would be like before booking.  It was very clean.  It has nice antique furnishings.  There are public rooms that are comfortable--a TV room and another sitting room downstairs.  The bath was spacious with plenty of very hot water.  Lighting over the sink was very good for seeing to shave or perform other grooming.  As expected, it was awkward having to share the bathroom timing-wise and especially when needing the toilet and someone else was in there for bathing/grooming; it was barely okay with 4 guests present when we were there; it would be worse with a full rental of 6-8 guests.  There were heavy curtains to pull across the window in the bedroom to keep the room dark.  We were in the room with two beds which is crowded, especially with luggage for two.  There was a strip outlet for plugging in our electronics, but the other outlets in the bedroom and in the bathroom were the old-fashioned kind with only two prong holes (not an 3rd one for grounding), and were loose so that movement would cause the cord to come out or to lose contact.   The Wi-Fi worked well.   Breakfasts were very good and were served in a beautiful dining room.  The hosts were very friendly and were very helpful--both with information and in other ways.  Nights were very quiet making it easy to sleep well.

We went for an early Xmas to see our grandchildren.  We were greeted warmly , pretty much had our pic of rooms. And had tons of gifts with us to wrap.  We were told we could have the sitting room all night if need be to wrap our gifts.  Our hosts were absolutely wonderful.The breakfast was lovely and the home is exactly as you see it.  My only concern was one bathroom to share.  It was worth it.  We will definitely go again.


A step back in time Beautiful!!

Hannam House is a wonderful little B&B in Middleton Nova Scotia.  It is a clean, bright and quiet place on the main street of the town.  It is walking distance to a very good pub and a nice pasta restaurant, as well as an NSLC outlet and groceries are nearby as well.  The breakfast served was large, filling and very tasty. Above all the room rate charged was a great value for the quality of room and breakfast.

Best Value in Nova Scotia

We stayed at this Bed and Breakfast for 4 nights at the beginning of August 2015. The Hannam Bed & Breakfast is on one of the busy side streets (Rt 362) in Middleton that connect to the main road (Rt 1) through town. They are about an hour's drive northeast from the Ferry Terminal in Digby, Nova Scotia. There is a mix of residential and commercial buildings close by.  Turn left out of their driveway and you find yourself headed thru farmland, over the hill and to the Fundy shore area. At the shore there are summer homes and small seaside parks that folks will gather in to watch the beautiful sunsets and the seals sunning on the rocky shore. There are no sandy beaches on this part of the Fundy shore.  Turn right out of their driveway and you will come to Main Street/Route 1 with several restaurants and a grocery store with a good selection of products.  The owners - The Hannams - are a husband and wife team who have been in the B&B business for over 20 years.  They have a mix of one time guests and repeaters who stay with them every year.  For those familiar with Cape Cod, Massachusetts; the house looks like a "Cape Cod House".   They say that the weather is usually not too hot or humid except for perhaps a week or two in the summer.  Well, we must have picked the humid weeks!!!  They rent out only 3 bedrooms, all on their second floor - all sharing one full bathroom.  Our room had two double beds with one pushed up against the wall and one side window. (Not safe for small children who may push against the window screen).  The bedroom was tight with the two double beds and perhaps a foot of space between them. There was also a small bureau with a table light and table fan - which we had on constantly when we were in there.  The bedrooms also have ceiling fans. There is no air conditioning. The other bedrooms each had one bed in them.  The bedrooms were carpeted as was the upstairs hallway.  The shared bathroom was a more recent renovation with modern fixtures and decor.  The stairs to the second level are carpeted and steep.  Most of the home is decorated in Victorian style with art work on the walls, figurines on the shelves and mantel, and collections of glassware filling the hutches in the dining room.  The dining room consisted of one large square table seating two on each side with one seat on each end. The tabletop was a little wobbily.  The table was fully dressed with linen, china and silver servers.  Every morning there was fresh coffee, hot water for tea, rhubarb and yogurt compote followed by eggs, bacon, thick whole wheat toast and fruit such as grapes, watermelon and citrus slices. One morning we had homemade blueberry muffins with blueberries from their garden. Breakfast was available from 8am to 9:30am but folks were often still seated and leisurely chatting with the owners after that.  The Hannams were friendly and engaging. Having lived in the same area for so long, they are very knowledgeable about what to see and do while you are there.  Our trip consisted of Family Tree research and they gave us a valuable tip about the local MacDonald Museum around the block from their home. This museum has archival records on most, not all, of the early families of the Annapolis Valley area of Nova Scotia. That tip proved very fruitful for us in gathering a significant amount of family information.  We spent most of our waking hours away from the home visiting Annapolis Royal, Digby and other local attractions. Upon arriving back each evening we found fresh towels in our room. Our trip coincided with the Province's Natal Day Holiday - which is usually the first Monday in August.  Your choices for lodging in this area of Nova Scotia consists of a few motels and then the B& B's.  There are no large chain hotels or motels here until you get to Truro or Halifax.  When there is a holiday, lodging fills up very quickly so book well ahead.  We did have to drive more than we wanted to, to get where we wanted to be in Digby or Annapolis Royal but since we were headed to Grand Pre' after this part of our journey, Middleton was conveniently on our way.
