We had the privilege of visiting this bullseye spot for 2 nights. The B&B exudes ambiance, history, and hospitality. And its location is truly fantastic! What a place! We were warmly welcomed by Sally & Jan, who made us feel right at home during our stay in the most gracious way. I travel a lot but write (too) few reviews. This is such an exception. One of a kind! 
The breathtaking view when you wake up, the steam shower before breakfast, the quirky quiz during breakfast (not an obligatory, no worries. This is where Sally's summer camp director side shines through :-). We found it very enjoyable!), Cody & Harriet, the local beer tasting, or the delicious ice cream in the evening with Sally and Jan, the exquisite special breakfast, the Haliburton Highlands... In short, top-notch!!!

One of a kind!

We both enjoyed Sunny Rock... from the history to the "whats-it" game that Sally had us roped into the first morning (and then we could not stop), to the uniquely created breakfasts each day and the Pine Studio, which was spacious and gave us the opportunity to relax and forget about the real world for a few days. Sally and Jan (and Cody) offered great conversation, tips to explore the area and as cyclists, they offered to come to get us if it rained. They are both great people who love what they do, and it shows.

Oasis of quiet and nature close to Minden

We were warmly welcomed by Sally and Jan who are terrific hosts. Our large timbered room was spacious and bright with chest of drawers and ample closet space.  There was an excellent bed - and two large comfy chairs in front of the fireplace. The floor-to -ceiling glass sliding door led out to a balcony overlooking the riverbank, which is teeming with wildlife: turtles, beaver, ducks, geese, seagulls and more. Every morning we were treated to a superb breakfast - and bottomless coffee. Sunny Rock is a place to retreat to - and to engage with dynamic Sally - who is full of stories, lore, tips and much more. Sally and Jan's generous presence ensure that this is a B and B like no other. They care about the well-being of their guests and really enjoy it when those guests connect with them and appreciate the history and spirit of Sunny Rock  - which exudes a special ambience we haven't experienced anywhere else in our travels. This is not a resort or a hotel, yet it is much more than your average B and B. The combination of the traditional lodge-like log structure of the main building, the terrific breakfasts, the unbeatable natural setting and the incomparable personality of Sally and her partner Jan make Sunny Rock the place to be for a super-relaxing getaway from city life.

This is the perfect place to revive yourself and enjoy nature after the devastation of COVID. The scenery is outstanding, rushing waters, wildlife, great hosts and scrumptious breakfasts. This is a large property, with an extensive deck that provides lots of opportunity for a quiet moment.

The Best B&B in Haliburton Highlands

Each year when I return to the Haliburton Highlands, I stay at the Sunny Rock Bed and Breakfast.  It is a clean, comfortable and relaxing place to stay.  The rooms are uniquely decorated to suit the needs of the guests. Each breakfast is a delicious treat.  Something new is created each day, with fresh fruit, eggs, yogurt, vegetables, toast, coffee, beautifully presented at the dining table, overlooking the falls.  Sally and Jan are welcoming, and knowledgeable about the surrounding area, activities and restaurants.  This is just the best place to stay!

Back at the Sunny Rock

We had a family get together at Sally and Jan’s in July with my sister meeting us there from Australia and the rest of us from the UK. It was obvious from the very start that this was no ordinary b&b but an extremely welcoming home where you can switch off from all your worries and immerse yourself in a little bubble. Sally and Jan are wonderful hosts - whether you want a canoe lesson, a Canadian breakfast, an entertaining game or a pearl of wisdom. Beds are huge and comfy, loved the lake swims and the unlimited ice cream. Thank you for a memorable trip. Not sure anyone else but Sally could have got my mum in the canoe!

A unique and special place

Sally's personal interest in our stay stared from our first conversation on the phone, her genuine enquiry as to what type of vacation it was for us. For me it was a chance to visit my past as my parents has owned a home across from Sunny rock, as well as an intimate weekend away with my partner.

Sally an Jan provided exceptional gourmet breakfast to start our day on our schedule which was  much  appreciated. We travelled down memory lane a fare bit over coffee. 

Being active visitors Sally proved bikes, canoe and paddle boat with all the instruction we could need. Also a friendly ear to share our adventures with. 

Almost left out the amazing atmosphere, weather lounging on the deck, sitting on the dock, around the campfire or the comfy chairs chatting. I should also include that the fishing was great for my partner.

Home away form home

We stayed at the beautiful Sunny Rock B & B early July for the second annual reunion of a group of friends my husband spent his summers with on Canning Lake and Lake Kashagawigamog.  Last year we stayed somewhere else that turned out to be a very active place, and so we very much welcomed the peace and tranquility of Sunny Rock being adult only in such a peaceful and tranquil setting. 

Because we require king accommodations, we stayed in the Moorehaven Treetop suite. While the room does not have a balcony and view overlooking the river like some of the other rooms have, it does have a nice view of the surrounding area, and we could still hear the rapids on the river from all the amazing windows that made the room so bright.  The suite is spacious, comfortable and quiet.

The B&B décor is comfortable, eclectic and interesting.  The huge decks overlook many angles of the river, and were a great place to congregate for happy hour, or just linger quietly enjoying the surroundings! The breakfasts are delicious, and also a time of great conversations with the opportunity to make new friends! 

There are little surprises that make every aspect of staying at Sunny Rock a sheer delight. Sally, Jan (and Ace, the sweetie pie of a dog) are what have made this place so special, and we appreciate the way they help discover the area, the wonderful hospitality extended to us, and just spending time together enjoying this wonderful space they have created. We can’t wait to go back!

Tranquility; comfortable; friendly; amazing breakfasts!

Just spent ten fabulous days at Sunny Rock B&B, the perfect place to stay for a quiet fun holiday and as a home-away-from-home if you're taking courses at the Haliburton arts college (unbelievable selection there!) - which we did!
Warm welcoming hosts, Sally & Jan (and Ace!) who know the area inside out and love to share it all. Breakfasts unlike any we've ever had - trust us - they were amazing! Cozy, roomy rooms with a view - and what a view!
Honestly, the best place to go, we had the best time and feel as if we have new friends - an unexpected bonus.
Thank you Sunny Rock - we'll be back and we'll be telling everyone we know about your paradise on the river.
