I would stay again and advise others to stay, so long as their expectations are in line with what the property has to offer. Following are a few things to know about Sunset Suites before making a decision. 

#1. Great Service. 
Maya who runs the place is over the top helpful and sweet as can be.
She helped us with general room needs, and went out of her way to help us figure out transportation routes and touring questions. She even made a few calls for us which was a huge help.

#2.   Great Location. 
Bus picks you up in front, takes you to subway station - from there you can go anywhere.Driving and parking in Montreal seems to be a nightmare so we were grateful to be in such a convenient location.  Also, it is in a very nice neighborhood, a short walk from Starbucks, a grocery store, a pharmacy, and great breakfast spot. 

#3  Comfortable beds
We stayed in a 2 BR premium suite with kitchen, LR, and 2 baths. 

#4  Great value
Sunset is a great value for the size of rooms, service, and location.
Our suite was clean and comfortable. 

#5 The property is being improved so it's in transition. 
It is clear the property is being improved. Our floors, kitchen table, bathrooms, and beds were clearly new - these are the things which really count. The LR furniture and windows are tired, as is the lobby and the outside structure. The pool wasn't maintained so I wouldn't plan on using it. A washer and dryer are offered, but it's in the basement which wasn't a very appealing area. 

Overall, it was a great value in a great location, and we were able to overlook the structure needing updating.

Things to know about Sunset Suites

This is the second time I have stayed at Sunset Suites in addition to making recommendations to friends who also enjoyed the location.  Maya is very accommodating and the property has had a lot of updating since my first visit in 2015 with further renovations and upgrades planned.  We had a spacious 1 bedroom apartment which suited all our needs and also used the free parking offered by the management.  Location wise, the apartment cannot be better suited for either traveling into Montreal as close to major routes or convenience with bus and train options very close and a recently opened large supermarket very close by for self catering.  Anytime I am in Montreal, I would definitely check out this option first.  Thanks Maya!

Can't beat location !

My husband and I tried to rent from Sunset Suites ! Be very careful, it is not what it advertises. The lady, Maya, who runs the place is very shifty, not to be trusted. She makes a lot of promises and does not follow through. It is a real scam ! 
I would never stay there. The lobby is vey old and not looked after....the renovated apartments look good but to get one is a different story.

We were doing floor varnishing in our house, so we looked for a "hideout" for a family of 4 adults and 2 kids. This looked very interesting from the start, and additionally had some particular features I will bring your attention to. We booked a 4 1/2 (2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms) Premium apartment. The unit was very spacious, recently renovated, very clean, and looked better than one we saw in December, 2016, when we booked the apartment for 5 days in February 2017. The building is in prestigious neighborhood in Montreal called Town of Mount Royal. Building is close to Highway 15/40 West-East, so if with a car, there is an easy access to highways. If you want tlo get to Downtown Montreal, you have two options: you can take your car (not recommended) by accessing the Jean Talon street (goes East-West) or Cote-des-Neges street (goes South-North). However, parking in the city of Montreal is Mission Impossible, so I strongly suggest you walk 10 minutes to the center of TMR, and there, you will find: very frequent bus 165 (brings you to blue Metro line, or straight to downtown), or the train station, that will bring you to downtown Windsor train station. I highly recommend the train option; train schedule is easy found on the web site (not allowed to post). In the center of TMR, you can find several restaurants, for breakfast (Leonidas, bakery Premier Moisson) and for lunch and dinner (Dupond-Dupond, La Pizzaiolle,  Galo, sushi Sakana). I do not think we would go for this apartment building in the future (I hope we are good with floors for the next 10 years), but I do highly recommend the place for both short and a long term stay in Montreal. I was looking for apartments throughout Montreal, and I can tell you the following: apartments in downtown are very expensive (same size was double price) and if you have a car, good luck finding the parking option. Even you come without car, you will find convenient public transport 10 minutes from the building. So, in y mind, it is a win-win combination.
In order for this review not to look biased (orf let alone paid) I have had two (and only two) complains. The first one is that apartment was missing a dishwasher. However, I think as they have put us in a recently renovated apartment, the machine must be on its way, as there is clearly space left in the (otherwise very nice) kitchen. The second complaint is not much management could do something - in one of the bathrooms, the guy doing ceramics spilled the glue (or its residuals) on the brand new ceramic floor. It is not end of the World, but in such nice apartment, it really bothers the eyes. All I could hope is that the owners would never hire this ceramic guy again - who clearly had attitude: tke the money and run.

Great value for money

When I called to book an apartment, I was told that there are renovated units and non-renovated units (C$1,800 and C$1,600 respectively, for a one bedroom fully furnished apartment). I went with the non-renovated, knowing that I would only be spending my nights in the apartment and I did not really need a new kitchen and a new bathroom. Turned out, non-renovated apartments have not been insulated and they are not well heated. I was there in December and the temperature was around minus 22 celsius for a couple of days. I froze. The heater in the bathroom is not working and the ventilation window is right above the bathtub !!! The bathtub's curtain is the C$1 that you buy at the dollar store and it is flying all the time during your shower. The biggest shock, yes, shock, I had was that my room was not prepared IN ADVANCE before I arrived. The bed sheets and pillows smelled awful; the kitchen ware (plates and glasses) were not washed and had food and grease on them. Unbelievable and unacceptable. The public areas need renovations big time. I mean the elevator, the staircases, the doors, the carpets..... To be fair, Maya, the manager and owner of the place, is always available to help; but even that is within limits (meaning that she was not able to solve the temperature issue in my apartment). The good thing about this building is that it is centrally located in Montreal (15 minute drive to the airport, proximity to the 13, 15 and 40 highways, close to bus, metro and train stations, Rockland shopping mall, etc.). My important advice for you: 1. contact the manager and ask her to PREPARE your room prior to your arrival and 2. book a renovated unit, it is worth the money.
