I booked a two-night stay through booking.com and provided my cc number which was to be charged two nights before arrival. I then proceeded to receive a string of emails from Darlene indicating that I would have to pay cash on arrival. When I questioned this, she then told me that I was the one that was wrong. (?)She even called me and aggressively indicated that I had messaged saying I would be paying by card upon arrival (?) which is not even possible since I booked through booking.com. She was very rude on the phone. Absolutely shocking especially considering this is someone that works in the service industry! I will never stay at this property.!

horrendous customer service

Reserved room with twin beds.
Tiny, small bedroom with youth-sized beds.
Breakfast limited to scrambled eggs, fruit & coffee.
No use of the kitchen or food storage.
Isolated from amenities & not within walking distance to water.  Guests must have a car.
Container gardening in yard was nice.
Plenty of pretty, small birds around property.
Nice view of the bay from the living room.
Quiet neighbpurhood.
Darlene offered her 'chauffeur service' to shopping if required.
Food home delivery was an option.
Overall atmosphere was homey & clean but little value for money.
We subsequently canceled our booking  but had to pay the one night charge penalty.

Not what was expected

We stayed one night at this B&B. Darlene clearly has a green thumb as she has a fabulous garden. She served us a delicious breakfast and the view of the ocean from her dining table, was simply spectacular. Our bedroom was quite small, but very clean. It was served by an equally clean bathroom, which was not in suite, but adjacent. However, the bathroom was private in the sense that we did not have to share it with any other guests, and there was a curtain that you could draw to "separate" the bathroom and bedroom from the rest of the house. Darlene was very sweet and hospitable. There was, however, one very unexpected situation that was quite stressful - there was no way to lock the bedroom door from the outside if we wanted to go out, because Darlene did not have a key for the door. This was a security issue because we were not the only guests at the B&B, so anyone could have accessed the room while we were out. However, Darlene did not appear to comprehend that this was a problem. This unfortunate situation led to us staying inside the tiny bedroom the entire evening although we had planned on going for a long hike to enjoy the lovely surroundings on what was a glorious summer day. Had we known about this issue in advance, we would not have booked this B&B. It is easy enough to get a key cut for the room, and we highly recommend that the owner do this so that guests can have an enjoyable stay.

Cozy B&B

This is a lovely home in a quiet area of Nanaimo.  Darlene is friendly and gracious and her home is very clean.  The garden is spectacular and the view from the deck overlooking the sea with the mainland coast as a backdrop is delightful.  Sitting on the deck in the evening watching the sunset was one of the trip hightlights.  The room was comfortable and the house quiet away from traffic noise. o.  We enjoyed the delicious breakfasts too.  Darlene's home was a reminder of days when interaction with the host was one of the best parts of the B&B experience.

Cozy, clean and comfortable

Tried to book and denied because we have a certified service dog. Totally against BC law. Will not be recommending to stay here but will recommend to avoid. Take this as you will, and Be forewarned…..

We cherished our time with Darlene and were sad to leave. Darlene was a fantastic host and showed great hospitality throughout our stay. Our breakfasts were delicious, with a large platter of fruit served each day, along with a variety of hot food, coffee and juice. She changed our towels and sheets regularly as well and kept her home immaculately clean. She also generously invited us to her sumptuous Christmas feast, which we were honoured to attend. Our room was very comfortable and came with tea making facilities and cable tv. We slept very well each night in cosy warm beds. We are going to miss Darlene and we highly recommend a stay with Darlene if in Nanaimo.

Home away from home

What a nice and cosy place to stay. We were here for one night and had a short but pleasant stay. A clean room, clean bathroom and great beds, at least we slept well!
The breakfast was great with fresh fruit and scrambled eggs croissants. A nice thing with B&B's is the stories, tips and experiences of other guests. And while eating and chatting looking at the many birds and house-hummingbird.
Looking for a cosy place to stay, Darlene's Island View is!

Cosy B&B, lovely Darlene!

Very cozy atmosphere and friendly hostess.  We had a small room on the main floor.  It was clean, comfortable and quiet.  Breakfast is good and Darleen is a very happy, gracious hostess.  The gardens are wonderful as well.

Like Staying at Your Mom's House

Darleen is very welcoming; her garden is stunning and she kindly welcomed us in to wander round and sit in the sunshine.  It was the antidote to a day of driving.  The king size bed in the garden room was very comfortable, we slept so well with the fresh air and waking to bird song was delightful.
Tip: if the painted board by the front door says "I'm in the garden" don't be shy, go in and find her in the garden!

Quiet location, stunning garden, great sleep

I stayed here for two nights with my Mom and 2 year old son. There was a huge bin of amazing vintage toys he was free to play with. Our host was very kind, the rooms clean, the beds comfy and the rates reasonable. There were snacks provided free of charge and a full kitchen stocked with everything you could need. The breakfasts were delicious, with fresh fruit, eggs, homemade scones, tea or coffee and juice. There were songbirds and hummingbirds right outside the window and a beautiful ocean view. We took a short walk to the beach one day which was beautiful. Her garden is absolutely spectacular. We stayed in September and it was gorgeous then, I can only imagine what it is like in the Spring / Summer. We really enjoyed our stay!
