There was a slight confusion as we checked in,  but that was only because we had been upgraded and not told.   Our room was great, a king bed with lots of room, great rain shower.   Our dinner was fantastic, especially our server Maddie K.  She recommended a walk down by the river after dinner.    Breakfast the next morning was also very good.  We had the focaccia bread, mango salad, agnolotti, chicken roulade, and desserts.  All were fantastic.

2nd time there

My husband and I recently celebrated our 10th Wedding Anniversary at Puddicombe House. Our special dinner for 15 guests exceeded our expectations. Our dishes were amazing, beautifully served and delicious. Our guests commented that what was served, was "art on the plate". Our servers - Nicky and Jill were fantastic...very attentive, efficient, pleasant and helpful. Arranging all the event details with Nick (the Manager) was effortless. Nick was very helpful, professional and understanding. Thank you so much the all the Puddicombe House staff who helped us organize our special event,. Special thanks to the Chef, Nick, Nicky and Jill...you made our day a huge success!

Special Anniversary Dinner

Beautiful spot in an unexpected location. The room we were seated in was beautifully appointed with white marble tables and green velvet chairs. Very sophisticated. It was very quiet. So quiet that it made conversation slightly uncomfortable. The room across the hall was cozier looking, had more activity (courtesy of the bar likely) and seemed more lively. The servers, though mostly quite young, were exceptionally professional. Very impressive. We had a casual meal with a salad and handhelds. The pear salad was delicious though I would have enjoyed more pear and more goatcheese. The italian burger was very good. It is messy though, so beware and lean over the plate. But really nice balance flavours and very delicious. The fried chicken sandwich was an entire chicken breast. The sticky and sweet sauce was very flavourful. The seasoned fries that accompanied both sandwiches were tasty and addictive but overly salty. At first I couldn't stop eating them and then I had to. Noticed the starters of diners around us, a delish looking plate of calamari and a daily soup that was getting rave reviews. In the end a solid meal in a beautiful environment. Next time I would try to get a seat in the other room and try the more elevated food offerings. Will return!

Beautiful restaurant and professional service

Everything was exceptional! From the quaint front room with the bay window and fireplace,  to our friendly and attentive server Kara. We had a deliscious meal from start to finish
 Don't think twice about visiting Puddicombe.... it will not disappoint!!

Tuesday Night Dinner date

My wife and I hosted a dinner for 31 family members to celebrate  our 25th wedding anniversary. We had a private room by the bar that fit our group well. The service and food were exemplary.

Great venue for a private dinner

I rate this only a 3/5 due to cost vs the room and amenities of the place. It’s a very cute building, dinner and breakfast were fantastic, but the price we paid did not meet the amenities of the room. We were upgraded to a room that was very small with no fridge other than a communal fridge in the hall (during Covid) which is not even really an option. The room was very dusty and it seemed to lack charm for the price paid. We had to beg the dining room for wine glasses which were not included in the room.  Very busy spot and for the most part the staff were pleasant.  Not sure we would be back to stay overnight unless the price decreased.

Cute but pricy

Very nice place for an overnight. Very warm and comfortable accommodation to support the history and the age of the building. You get the high ceilings and big thick wood trim. Very nice big bathrooms and there was a lovely fireplace in our room. They had piped jazz music playing outside of our room that just gave a relaxed atmosphere and prepped our mood for dinner. Dinner was fantastic and very cool approach to the Covid issue. A greenhouse dining experience inside a larger enclosure. Provided privacy and very colorful with the lights. The wait staff were great. Night quiet sleeping and very tasty breakfast provided to order in the dining room in the morning. Highly recommend. The only negative is the cost of the room. A little high for an overnight and the amenities.

Great stay in a small town

Visited the Oxford county and slept overnight at this B&B. Beautiful exterior with nice garden and lights at night. Unfortunately, I felt that the overnight accommodations and hospitality was not what I imagined when I booked and is misleading when you see 4 stars. I understand completely that this is an older building but the room lacked that special charm it could have, if only it had a little more attention put into it. For example, a ribbon, used for gift wrapping, was used to tie the curtain in the bathroom. To summarize the hotel stay is too overpriced, the 4 star may reflect the food but not reflective of the accommodations, cleanliness needs to be better, and overall hospitality needs to be better for those staying overnight. The focus of the Puddicombe seems to be events, spa and restaurant. If this is so, the price needs to be reduced significantly for overnight stays.

Overnight

We held a writers retreat there this past weekend and had a wonderful time. The property is a delight. Great location and lovely house. The main building was built as a private residence and the bedrooms are all nicely appointed. The food is excellent and the service lacks nothing. In fact, most times they anticipated our needs before we knew we needed something.

Whether you are looking for a meal or a weekend getaway, I can't recommend them enough. Thank you to all the staff for a wonderful stay.

Puddicombe House

Almost normal to dine out, try out new restaurants and write a review. COVID protocols in place. Puddicombe House benefits for extensive outdoor dining space. Excellent friendly service, enticing menu and attractive food presentation. Will return again. Advance booking required.
