Our family of 5 adults and 2 children stayed here for two nights in chalet #12. Considering we paid $700 a night we had reasonable expectations that it would be an accommodation that was nicely appointed with good quality furnishings and comfortable beds. And we certainly expected it to be CLEAN. 

Our expectations were shattered when we arrived.  Several things were apparent immediately. In the photos on Airbnb it showed a large dining table and chairs which were not there.  There was a counter in the kitchenette area with wooden bar stools. Certainly not suitable for our family. 

On further inspection we realized there were not 3 double beds in the loft area, rather a queen and two singles. This did not work for us either. My adult daughter had to sleep on a folding cot under the stairs!!  To say she was very uncomfortable would be an understatement. 

In fact none of us slept well as the mattresses were poor and quite uncomfortable. We all woke up with sore backs. If there’s one thing accommodation at that price point should provide, it’s good beds with quality mattresses. 

The sheets were mismatched and not good quality either.  The duvet in the loft bedroom didn’t cover the whole bed. 

The furnishings in the living room were not good quality. The shabby couch had seen better days and was certainly not leather as depicted in the photos. There was only one reading/task light in the living room and one end table. The television was very small and cheap.  There is no DVD player. 

In the bedroom the chest of drawers was broken and the drawers fell out when you opened them.  There was something spilled on the carpet in front of the night table. 

In the upstairs loft one of the bedside lamps was broken. The bedside table had something sticky on it. 

The bathrooms had stained, threadbare facecloths that were more suited to cleaning rags than wash cloths. The towels were old, thin and worn out.  In the main bathroom the baseboard drywall was crumbling and the door stop was hanging loose (see photo). 
The heat registers in bathrooms were covered in dust and hair. 

The carpet everywhere was badly in need of a good steam cleaning. We found several items on the floor (a wristwatch, several kids’ toys) indicating that they had not vacuumed, swept or mopped thoroughly.   There was a layer of dust on the surface the tv sat on. The front windows were dirty and smeared. The window blinds on the front door were dirty and broken. 

In the kitchen the fridge was dirty and needed to be disassembled and thoroughly cleaned (see photos).  The crisper bins hadn’t even been wiped out. The stove and hood fan were dirty, the toaster was filthy with encrusted cheese on it.  When we took the “clean” dishes out of the dishwasher they had encrusted food stuck to them. Clearly the folks before us didn’t pre-clean the pots and pans before placing them in the DW. We realized that the dishwasher didn’t work properly.  The cabinets were terrible, dirty inside and a few old pots and pans and other items were shoved inside, not in any sort of order.  The dishes, glassware and cutlery were a mismatched hodgepodge that were shoved into the upper cabinets in a very disorganized way.  The kitchen was poorly equipped, no proper cutting board, cheap plastic utensils. One of the upper cabinets was supported with a 2X4 piece of lumber!   

The whole affair was dreadful and I felt like crying because I was the one who’d made the reservation for our family getaway. 

Prior to our arrival our hosts had sent us an email advising us that firewood for the fire pit was not provided and suggesting that we bring our own from Alberta as we may not be able to purchase any once there.  It is prohibited to bring firewood into British Columbia from another province and for very good reason. The hosts should know better.  

We are still in shock that we paid $700 A NIGHT for this place.  I sent feedback to the owners Tina and Steve who are apparently, inexplicably,  “super hosts” and they responded by saying they were giving us a 5 star rating on Airbnb and asking us to do likewise. I almost laughed out loud.  

I would strongly advise anyone who is thinking of staying here to think twice!  



Don’t Stay Here!

We booked two night for our valentines in chalet 16. Within two  hours of arrival, the cockroaches starting scurrying on the kitchen counters. We contacted the hosts, who offered no resolution. We had no choice but to stay the night, hardly slept and left ASAP in the morning. It was not a clean cabin. Fighting for a refund. Buyer beware.

Valentines Disaster

We had the pleasure of staying in Chalet 16, located in the far corner of the block. The large windows provide ample, natural lighting with stunning views of the surrounding forest and mountainscape. The natural logs throughout the interior really immerse you in this rustic cabin; while having the modern conveniences you would expect in your own home. Wifi is fast, kitchen well stocked, the fireplace is inviting, the beds are comfortable, and in the cold of January winter, the general ambiance wraps around you like a warm blanket.

We were extremely disappointed to find that, despite booking 8.5 months ahead, we had been allocated a chalet that was right next to the parking place, had absolutely no privacy with other chalet dwellers continually walking within 3 feet of  the chalet, often pulling noisy carts and no doubt being super happy they didn’t have chalet # 11. 
To add to this there is another pathway behind the chalet with the same traffic. This meant that not a single window blind could be opened fully with possibly half of the kitchen window where the other half looked onto the wood wall of the next chalet. From the porch you looked onto the back of a shed or the parking lot. 
At night with all the comings and goings of other chalet guests to and from the parking place or rubbish bins etc, you were also restricted to moving about on the upper level without the light on as there were no curtains on the cathedral (normally great to have) windows.  
In addition this meant the orange lights of the parking place that shone all night, made the top level very bright and for those affected by light, difficult to sleep. The bed light didn’t work either. 
To add insult to injury, the kitchen was poorly equipped. One pot was totally burnt with a thick deposit on the bottom, the two fry pans had long seen the last of their anti stick qualities and were so crooked they didn’t sit properly on the stove (or maybe the stove plates were bent??). We ate off picnic plastic plates. 
The interior is as per the photos and is roomy which is nice and the bath was a good comfortable size. The hot water was sufficient to fill the bath. 
However on our last day there was no water - in any chalet!!! We messaged and knocked on  Natasha’s door who lived on the property and heard nothing at all from her. 
Of course the lack of water was not her fault, but it would have been the minimum to expect her to advise us rather than to find out by asking other chalet guests if they had water. Her silence was deafening and why have an on the spot caretaker if they are never around??
Most alarming however was the visit of a bear on two nights (probably more often as they are habitual)
It came on our veranda and knocked over a chair and the rubbish bin, but left the recycling bin standing. 
The next night the bear came again (at 4.15am) and ended up licking a BBQ dripping plate of a chalet behind us and emptying a trash can on another porch and  exploring other chalets behind us. Obviously the trash cans and recycling bins on the porches are the attraction and the Chalet owners need to rethink their trash policy noted in their booklet (see photo). As a duty of care issue I’d add that they need to advise the many overseas visitors of the dangers from bears more prominently than they currently do. 
Our advice to any prospective guest would be ascertain where your chalet is before booking. No doubt the chalets further away from the road and closer to the river are lovely / but whatever - AVOID Chalet #11



AVOID Chalet #11

We had a lovely cabin with a bathroom up and downstairs.  Well appointed kitchen and condiments in the fridge.  Loved every minute there.  The views were AMAZING!  Quiet time is 10PM and we were early risers so we appreciated that the neighbors mostly respected that.  Would definitely recommend these.  WIFI was awesome!  
Gas fireplace with timer was neat.  No AC but we managed to hit the weather a little cooler.  
Did I mention it was CUTE, CUTE, CUTE!  
There was also lawn furniture on the deck, lovely flowers around the cabin.  A short walk to the cabin depending on parking spot.  Little place for an outdoor fire.  Just a short walk from a glacier fed river/stream where they were camping and fishing.  
This is a good distance from Golden though and it was tough to find using Google.  There are several roads called Kicking Horse.  Get good directions from the owner rather than google.

Totally AWESOME cabins!

We had #10 which was on the edge and had pretty good wifi, so reading the other comments re the latter I guess we got lucky :) It was really convenient to be able to access the chalet with a code rather than need to ahve arranged a check in time. The place was clean and well equipped, the only downsides were (for an arachnophobe) the large amount of cobwebs between the side of the shower cubicle and the wall in the downstairs bathroom (I don't go looking in corners, this was direct line of sight from the loo), and no coffee supplied: we'd stocked up on groceries and were pleased with the well equipped kitchen, but had assumed that coffee would be there, and once you're on site there are no options to buy anything close by. The heating was really good. The bath in the middle of the top room? odd..but we knew in advance it would be there!

The location of the chalets is great with a beautiful river close by and views of the mountains. An easy drive to the sights of Yoho and Banff national parks.

Great cabin

Stunning view and chalet! Big and super clean. Has a fire place and a tv. A bathtub and big and comfy beds. The WiFi doesn’t work inside the house. There’s a place to do bbq. Definitely worth staying here! 

Beautiful 

Great place for a vacation. Lovely, clean, comfortable genuine log cabin. Very well equipped with everything you need. Fantastic location to visit lots of different places in area. We stayed as a family of 6 and had plenty of room.
