Perfect place for fishermen, families. Close to Picton. We've been here three times. We bring the boat for fishing and it's also not too far from the sandbanks beaches. Very friendly owners and Kevin is an exceptional fisherman. He gives very good fishing advice. The kids love the pool and the wharf for fishing. We're so happy we found this place!

Fishing and beach

A wonderful weekend getaway with my fiancé for our anniversary. We had an incredible stay. The cottage was clean, love the decor and the park had so much to do! We rented a canoe and explored the water and beautiful scenery! Thank you to Merland Park for a wonderful weekend away!

Anniversary Getaway!

My friends had told me about Merland Park and how awesome it was and it definitely exceeded my expectations! Cottage was beautiful inside and the fishing might be the best walleye fishing in Ontario! 
I recommend Merland Park to anyone staying in Prince Edward county who enjoys the outdoors and awesome sunsets.

Best accommodations in the county!

This is a great fun experience. Never sure what to expect but very happy to find cute and clean cottage . Perfectly set up and comfortable.  Caught our supper🐟

Vacation

Traveling with friends in their new RV we were involved in a terrible accident that left the RV undrivable and our group without a place to stay. As it was the last weekend in August most places were fully booked or were not willing to give us even a portion of the weekend between bookings. Until we called Jennifer at Merland Park. After explaining our situation Jennifer said she had single night openings between guests and happily welcomed us to her family's resort.
During our three-night stay, we stayed in a beautiful three-bedroom cottage, a pool suite room, and the motel area of their resort. All rooms were clean, had all the amenities, and were located in well-groomed grounds at the lakeside resort.
During our stay, we met many people, families that told us they'd been coming to Merland Park for many years!
Certainly, we will be back and highly recommend Merland Park Resort if you are traveling to the Picton area!

Merland Park Resort gets five stars !

My boyfriend and I stayed at Merland Cottages (cottage 1) for a week in July of 2021. It was an absolutely amazing vacation with a gorgeous view of the lake. 

The cottage came stocked with pots, pans, cuttlery, strainer, plates, glasses, bowls, mugs and other cooking utensils. It also had a coffee maker, toaster, microwave, kettle, dish rack, a flat screen with multiple channels, and wifi. There was also a little kitchen table with chairs for meals. It also had a double bed as well as a pull out couch. Bathroom was pretty roomy as well. Also there was air conditioning. 

Our cottage just had a new deck installed with a BBQ and a lovely seating area. There was a lot of space for our dog to run around (the place is dog-friendly with a $50 charge). Although the pool wasn’t open, the lake was beautiful and very refreshing for swimming! 

They had a horseshoe pit, large fire pit with multiple chairs, a communal deck, and cornhole. 

Kevin (one of the owners) was an amazing host and knew a lot about fishing. We were able to rent a canoe twice during our stay ($20 an hour) and we caught a fish (had sooooo many bites on our hooks). They also offer kayaks, boat rentals, and paddle boards. 

The town of Picton had so much to offer. We walked along the main strip in town to go shopping in local stores, drove by countless wineries and breweries, ate at an amazing rotisserie chicken place (Angry Birds, which sold a great east coast donair), visited Little Bluff rock beach (as the Sandbanks reservations were all sold out during the duration of our stay…so book ahead of time), and visited the Lake on the Mountain look-out point. 

If you’re looking for a relaxing vacation in a cozy cottage with a gorgeous view surrounded by incredibly kind people, I highly recommend that you stay at Merland Park Cottages.

Wanted to go and catch some jumbo perch/ The week before I went up to Beaverton (Simcoe+. We caught six fish there. I used an outfitter and rented a hut. So I did some research and came across Kevin's little hidden gem in Picton. After several phone calls I decided to give it ago. The reason why was that Kevin was straight up and was honest and told me the bit was on. He was the first outfitter to take the time and talked to me and I felt he really cared about his clients catching fish. I was just another customer. I have broken ribs and he was aware of that and he took care of myself and friend like we where family. His hut where of the ice for the season so he put up his fabrill ice hut. FYI I could have taken my own and put it up and try to figure out where the fish where but.... see pictures. He offered his fish finder, rod's everything. Fortunately i had my own gear. We went on March 7th. I definitely will be going back. Looking at renting and cottage this year for pickerel and perch. Winter and spring. At the end of the day Kevin was more excited that we where successful then we where. WE WERE VARY HAPPY WITH OUR CATHS THAT DAY. Guy from Peterborough

Ice fishing trip

We stayed in the pickerel palace for 5 nights. There were 5 adults and one small child. We all had the most amazing time. The owners were very friendly and extremely accommodating. We will definitely be making this a yearly trip !!

Great Experience !!

I typically do not write negative reviews, however after reading the response to many negative reviews, "you should have told us", which appears to be the owner's generic response on almost every negative review regarding Merland Park Cottages, I decided to share my review.   

I stayed in cottage #4 with my wife and children from August 8-15 and my parents stayed in cottage #8 for that week, and we kept telling the owners about our issues that we were experiencing during our stay, but as you will read in my review, it didn't help during our stay, so please be aware, if you decide to stay here. 

As soon as we entered cottage #4, there was a stench of "pot smoke", so we immediately notified Jen (one of the owners), and she was aware of the stench, as she told us, that she was charging the previous tenants a cleaning fee.  I was quite surprised, that I could still smell the pot, despite Jen alluding to the fact that there was extra cleaning that was done in our cottage.  We asked to be moved to a different cottage, but were told that there was no vacancy.  Jen offered to wash the drapes (I had to help her take the drapes down and needed to put them up myself), and when we asked for the futon cover and chair covers to be washed (as they smelled like pot too), she wouldn't take them, as she mentioned that they were just washed (even though they appeared dirty). The BAND-AID SOLUTION was that we were given a deodorizing spray to mask the odour, which continued for the duration of our stay. 

We tried to keep the windows open in our cottage, but since the screens were broken or missing, we ended up having to choose between the strong pot smell or bugs flying into the cottage.  We did notify Kevin (the other owner) about the torn screens who replied with, "What do you expect, when we allow dogs on the property?". Eventually, a maintenance person came to fix the patio screen (only), by simply putting tape on both sides of the screen, but we couldn't use the windows in the cottage for the whole week. A BAND-AID SOLUTION.

On the website, it clearly states that dogs must be on leashes.  It is no wonder we did not see a single dog on a leash, because the owners' sheep dog was never on a leash.  So if the owners aren't practicing what they are preaching, why would anyone else follow suit? The neighbours' golden retriever was a constant fixture on our patio. We did mention this to Jen, that there was a stray dog, who was defecating  on the lawn and roaming around the property, and her response was "Oh, it's the neighbours' dog".  Jen did pick-up after it, that one time, BUT IT APPEARED THAT I NEEDED TO MENTION THIS TO HER EVERY TIME, OTHERWISE IT WOULD BE IGNORED.  I AM NOT SURE WHY THE ONUS IS ON THE VACATION GUEST TRYING TO ENJOY THEIR VACATION AND  WHY THE MAINTENANCE CREW ISN'T TAKING CARE OF THE GROUNDS.  There was not one day that week, that we didn't see feces on the grass.

We couldn't enjoy the property, as besides finding feces on the property, garbage also wasn't picked-up.  When we arrived to the cottage on the first day, there were wrappers, a cigarette box and other scraps, which remained in the same spots for the whole duration of our stay.  This set a tone that not only were the grounds dirty, but the inside of the cottage was dirty too.  In fact, my daughter found a t-shirt and water bottle underneath her bed, which should have been found if the cottage was properly cleaned.  

After a few days, I felt tired of bringing up these inefficiencies to Kevin, who kept asking me" What do you want me to do about it?".  Hmmm- address a guest's concerns at a facility that you own?

As we have been renting in PEC for every summer for almost a decade (we stayed at Sunrise Cottage Resort during that duration - which is now torn down), our future stays will definitely not be at Merland Park.  RENTER BEWARE!

RENTER BEWARE!

We stayed in cabin number 7! The positive notes were the cabin was clean and there was air conditioning! 
The so called solarium was in a bad state of disrepair and needed a good wash! Some of the furniture was very tired and needs to be replaced. A good vacuum and cleaning of windows would go a long way as well! Loved the area of Prince Edward County and will definitely return but not to Merland Park Cottages
